Answer:	it is 12 inches deep, won't accommodate legal size hanging them as the pictures shows. unless they shipped me the wrong one, it is not 27.2 x 16.1 x 5.1 inches as the specs say, the one I received is 12 inches deep and I hang files exactly the way the picture shows but not legal size ones. you might want to eMail Amazon or the mfg to clarify, but the one they shipped me is 12 in deep. other than that, it is great, exactly what I was looking for but I don't use legal size
