14 best bandsaw for woodworking
A bandsaw for woodworking is a power tool commonly used in woodworking shops and construction for cutting various types of wood. Here's what you need to know about bandsaws for woodworking:
Basic Design: A bandsaw consists of a continuous band of toothed metal, typically a steel blade, that is stretched between two large wheels. One of the wheels is powered by an electric motor, which drives the blade in a continuous loop.
Cutting Action: Bandsaws are known for their versatility and precision. The blade moves vertically up and down through a slot in a flat table, allowing woodworkers to make straight, curved, or irregular cuts with ease. The table can often be tilted to make bevel cuts.
Resawing: Bandsaws are particularly useful for resawing, which is the process of cutting a thick piece of wood into thinner boards or veneers. The thin blade and smooth cutting action make it ideal for this task.
Throat Size: The throat size of a bandsaw determines the width of the cut that the machine can make. Larger bandsaws with wider throats can handle larger workpieces and make wider cuts.
Blade Types: Bandsaws can use various blade types, including standard toothed blades for general cutting, narrow blades for intricate work, and specialty blades for specific tasks like resawing.
Guides and Tension: Bandsaws come with blade guides and tension adjustments to ensure that the blade runs smoothly and stays on track during the cutting process. Proper tensioning is crucial for achieving clean cuts.
Dust Collection: Many bandsaws have built-in dust collection ports to help keep the workspace clean. This is important because woodworking can generate a significant amount of sawdust.
Safety Features: Bandsaws often include safety features such as blade guards and emergency stop switches to protect users from accidents.
Mobility: Some bandsaws are stationary machines, while others are designed to be more portable. Portable bandsaws are often used on construction sites.
Maintenance: Proper maintenance is essential to keep a bandsaw in good working condition. This includes regularly checking and tensioning the blade, lubricating moving parts, and cleaning the machine.
Usage: Bandsaws are used in various woodworking applications, including cutting curves, making tenons, ripping boards, resawing, and more. They are commonly found in professional woodworking shops as well as home workshops.
Bandsaws are a valuable tool for woodworkers due to their versatility and ability to make intricate cuts with precision. Whether you're a professional woodworker or a DIY enthusiast, a bandsaw can be a valuable addition to your workshop for a wide range of woodworking projects.

User questions & answers
Question: | When centering the blade on the tires, should the blade or the gullets be centered |
Answer: | According to Alex Snodgrass the band saw guru with Carter power tools, the gullet of the blade is what should be centered on the tire. |
Question: | Do I have to buy the 72 inch blades, or is there some room for a 72 7/16 blade to fit it |
Answer: | I don’t have a different answer, but I feel bad for the person that has 21 downvotes, because they’re not wrong. This saw is available in 3 sizes. 72 is for the 10”, 62 is for the 9”. Sorry, ccbdav. Don’t let em get you down. |
Question: | Has anyone used this tool to cut thru 4 inch oak? For example table legs |
Answer: | The blade that came with it is actually not bad at all as I cut a 5 inch diameter oak log from a chopped tree in my back yard down to a 3"x 3" x 2' piece of usable lumber. I was impressed. I later bought a bi-metal 1/2" 14TPI blade and installed it for metal cutting. It did cut with no effort a 1" thick T6 aluminum. I am not sure if if can do thicker as I did not try it. I also cut 1/2 mild steel bar with no problem at all. No binding or stalling. All the cuts of wood or metal were straight. You just have to let the blade do the work and not force feed it through |
Question: | Where is it manufactured |
Answer: | There's a tiny island off the north west coast of Mauritius called Gelff. Not even on most maps. Discovered by captain James Cook in 1752. In 1754 Gelff, represented by James Cook in Spanish courts, was granted sole manufacturer of the WEN 3962 Two-Speed benchtop bandsaw. Raw materials are brought in on one side of the island. Some kind of assembly/manufacturing factory must be inland somewhere, they don't allow access to the interior. The fact that this is such a fine product becomes obvious when one visits the far side of Gelff, where cargo ships are waiting to load and deliver this product around the world. |

Question: | Product description says this saw has wheels. Another question about using a mobile base....does the stand have wheels or not |

User questions & answers
Question: | What's the blade replacement part number for this in |
Answer: | It is extremely long, too long for my preference (actually). I run it in a SOG ninja and have a lot of length left after my shoulder strap is strung. |
Question: | Does this come with the saw blade |
Answer: | 100 oz = 2834 gram. Quite heavy. |
Question: | What is the motor phase |
Answer: | Yeah, I think it should fit the .75l! I got this for my 1L Camelback Eddy. The straw was a little long so I cut it to fit. Works great! |
Question: | does this ship ready to be plugged in |
Answer: | Yes, go to the Camelbak website and fill out a warranty claim for a new cap. They have a checkbox for broken hinge. They'll send a new one right out. (I've already had to replace 2.) |

User questions & answers
Question: | Why is this $66 more than on Grizzly.com |
Answer: | Just squeeze the bladder and hold the bite valve open and water will flow out. Just make sure the hydro lock is open the same as is needed to drink from it. |

Product description
Remember when your scroll saw could cut in two different directions? Take on the most intricate and artful cuts with the WEN 16-Inch Variable Speed Two-Direction Scroll Saw. The 9/16-inch stroke saws through hard woods up to two inches thick. Adjust the speed anywhere from 550 to 1600 strokes per minute with the simple turn of a knob. The cast iron base prevents vibration and walking during operation while the spacious 16-by-11-inch table bevels up to 45 degrees for angled cut. The adjustable air pump clears saw dust from your work area to give you a clear line of vision as you cut. This combined with the 1-1/2-inch dust port keep your work area clean so you can focus on your woodworking. The saw also includes a hold-down foot clamp for securing your project in place along with a flexible work light that bends and adjusts to whatever position your heart desires. This unique blade holder accepts both pinned and pinless blades while also allowing users to change the direction of their cut to accommodate their particular workpiece. For pinned blades, simply pop the pins out of the front holder and turn the blade 90 degrees. Now, your cuts are no longer confined by the 16-inch throat of the scroll saw. On top of that, our removable pinless blade holder design tightly grips blades to prevent them from coming loose during operation. Onboard blade and holder storage creates simple organization solutions between jobs. And because its a WEN product, your scroll saw comes backed by a two-year warranty, a nationwide network of skilled service technicians and a friendly customer help line, all to make sure you remember WEN.

User questions & answers
Question: | Is the pinless adapter upgraded in this model |
Answer: | Yes |
Question: | What’s the difference between this and the |
Answer: | The difference is toolless or tooled blade changes. That's the only difference I found in the 2 units. |
Question: | What blades are you all using |
Answer: | I use spiral blades which, unlike regular flat blades, you can cut by pushing and pulling your piece being cut. |
Question: | I am new to scroll saws so have to ask. Is it worth the $40 difference in price for the 3921 over the 3920 and why |
Answer: | this model(3921) replaces the 3920, they added a few features and the pinless clamps to the mix. the price difference is for the design changes and the extra pieces they add. 3921 is better than the 3920 when you count in the extra features. |
Question: | does it come with sand paper |
Answer: | Ours didn't. But just cut a full sheet in half and half again. Love how well it works. |
Question: | is it ok to use on an old desk? I am concerned about the circar pattern of this sander, I won't be able to follow the grain of the wood |
Answer: | It's a small orbit, about 1/16", like a vibration. For $30 give it a try. If you use fine paper on the last pass and move the sander in the directionof the grain, should be ok. I think it's agreat little tool. |
Question: | What about the cutted sections in the sandpaper |
Answer: | Hi, Put the sandpaper section on the sander. The sander came with a black square item that has spikes. Push the sander over the spikes and the holes in the sandpaper will appear. Also the holes are only needed if you want to collect the dust in the bag. I do not use the collection bag. |
Question: | Where do I find refills online for the 1/4 sheet |
Answer: | What is "Full Sized Sheet"? , I see 8 1/2 x 11 and 8 x 10. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does the free prime shipping include lift gate service |
Answer: | Tengo un cargador |
Question: | I am having issues locationg where it specifies what square and round diameter steel it will cut |
Answer: | Yes, it does. |
Question: | How much assembly is required for this bandsaw upon delivery |
Answer: | This machine uses a grinding head with a diameter of 2.35mm. If your grinding head diameter meets this range, you can use it |
Question: | will this cut 6"X6" square aluminum tubing |
Answer: | All that is needed for this size reservoir to fit is an appropriate sized pack with a pocket in which to place it. I have found that many packs I have actually have pretty generous "pockets" dedicated to the reservoir itself and I can finagle an extra 100 oz bladder in alongside the first one with both filled to capacity. Yeah, it will be snug and you'll need to stow the extra tube/bite valve, etc., but on those really long hiking, hunting biking trips, having the extra water available that doesn't impinge on other storage areas is helpful. Obviously, if you are using a minimalist pack for, say, running, they don't have the extra room to accomplish what I suggest. But for those pack that do have the room, a spare reservoir filled with ice and water for those long, hot, dusty, treks will be more than appreciated when you are between water stations. |
