Labs, collies and similar dogs already wear a coat to help keep them warm. I don’t understand the need for a indoor heating pad for a breed like these. Most larger dogs can tolerate winters. There’s nothing cruel about a dog sleeping outside on most winter nights (wolves, coyotes and foxes in dirt dens manage just fine). However, as a rule of thumb, I bring my dog into the garage on single digit nights just for piece of mind.

Answer:	I never have left it on for days at a time, but I have left it on for a couple of days when my little dog is at the caregiver's when we've been gone for a weekend. I use mine in my chihuahua's crate for at night. I start warming it up early evening and usually turn it off mid morning the next day. I would think it would be fine to leave it on most of the time if you are using it for a pet who lays on it most of the time, day and night.

Answer:	It doesn't need an automatic shut off... it stays about 5-10 degrees warmer than room temperature at all times, and when your furry friends are lying on it, it warms to about 102 degrees. When they get up again it goes back to room temperature. Only costs a few cents each month to keep plugged in at all times. My cat climbs under the covers and lays on my chest all the time, probably about 102 degrees with body heat and blankets. Shed get really anxious and upset if her siblings were cuddling and she couldn't get under the covers though. Since we got this, if she can't get under the blankets with me, she's happy to lay on her pad. I loved it so much I got another for my apartment and one for my mom's house, then she bought a second one as well. I think it'll be perfect for your puppies. Will keep the perfect temperature at all times, won't stay warm and waste electricity when they're not using it, and won't shut off while they're cuddling or sleeping in the middle of the night. The heater is surrounded by two thin foam pads and everything is inside of a soft cover with a zipper.

Answer:	It is approximately 78” long from edge of pad to plug. Partway down is an on/off and low/high temperature control. From the edge of the pad to that control, the cord is heavily insulated—I assume to reduce pet chewing issue.
Question:	What is the material inside the warmer? I don't want something that may be harmful for my dog
Answer:	The pad is excellent but I do not think that it is wise to keep a cat outside in 9 degree weather with or without a pad!
