14 best kidde ac smoke detectors

Kidde AC smoke detectors are devices designed to detect smoke and alert residents to the presence of a potential fire in their home or building. These detectors are typically hardwired into the electrical system of a property and are an essential component of fire safety and security.

Here are some key features and information about Kidde AC smoke detectors:

  1. Smoke Detection: Kidde AC smoke detectors are equipped with advanced smoke sensing technology, such as ionization or photoelectric sensors, which can quickly detect the presence of smoke particles in the air. This early detection is crucial for providing timely warnings in the event of a fire.

  2. Carbon Monoxide Detection: Some Kidde AC smoke detectors are combination units that also incorporate carbon monoxide (CO) detection. Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless gas that can be deadly when inhaled. These combination detectors can help protect against both fires and carbon monoxide leaks.

  3. Interconnected Alarms: Kidde offers models with the capability to interconnect multiple smoke detectors within a home or building. When one detector detects smoke or CO, it triggers all interconnected units to sound their alarms simultaneously. This feature ensures that occupants are alerted regardless of their location in the building.

  4. Battery Backup: In case of power outages, Kidde AC smoke detectors often come equipped with battery backup to ensure continuous operation. This is crucial as fires can occur at any time, and the detectors need to function even when the electrical power is disrupted.

  5. Hush/Test Button: Kidde detectors typically have a hush/test button that allows users to temporarily silence the alarm for non-emergency situations, such as when cooking generates smoke. Regular testing of the detector's functionality is also important and can be done using this button.

  6. LED Indicators: Kidde AC smoke detectors often have LED indicators that provide information about the unit's status. These indicators can show if the unit is operational, if it has detected smoke or CO, or if it has a low battery.

  7. Installation: Kidde AC smoke detectors are designed to be hardwired into a building's electrical system. They are typically installed on ceilings or high on walls, as smoke rises. Professional installation is recommended to ensure proper placement and wiring.

  8. Maintenance: Regular maintenance is essential to ensure the continued effectiveness of Kidde AC smoke detectors. This includes periodic testing, cleaning, and replacing batteries as needed.

  9. Compliance: Kidde AC smoke detectors often meet industry safety standards and regulations, providing peace of mind that they are reliable and effective in fire detection.

Overall, Kidde AC smoke detectors are an important part of home and building safety, providing early warning of potential fires and carbon monoxide leaks. Proper installation, maintenance, and testing are essential to ensure their reliable operation.

User questions & answers

Question: is it photoelectrict? Can it be connected to a fire alarm system
Answer: Your warranty starts at the date of purchase. Keep your receipt. Your 5 year shelf life starts the day you power it up. The expiration date is hard coded into the software and only starts the day you plug it in..... This is from BRK WEBSITE
Question: Have u noticed high electric bill
Answer: It doesnt matter. If you have a device alarming, you, family and pets need to remove yourself from the house and possibly call fire department. Both sources will kill you.
Question: is this detector one that is disposed off when battery is down
Answer: According to the National Fire Protection Association: Choose smoke alarms that have the label of a recognized testing laboratory.Install smoke alarms inside each bedroom, outside each sleeping area and on every level of the home, including the basement. On levels without bedrooms, install alarms in the living room (or den or family room) or near the stairway to the upper level, or in both locations.Smoke alarms installed in the basement should be installed on the ceiling at the bottom of the stairs leading to the next level.Smoke alarms should be installed at least 10 feet (3 meters) from a cooking appliance to minimize false alarms when cooking.Mount smoke alarms high on walls or ceilings (remember, smoke rises). Wall-mounted alarms should be installed not more than 12 inches away from the ceiling (to the top of the alarm). If you have ceilings that are pitched, install the alarm within 3 feet of the peak but not within the apex of the peak (four inches down from the peak).
Question: I am looking at replacing my kidde 1275 smoke alarms, which should I replace with as mine were made
Answer: The "radioactive part" is how it works. Don't like it? Don't buy it. Simple. As for false alarms, this unit with its "radioactive part" is actually much more likely to give false alarms that condition people to ignore them. It is also much less sensitive to the smoldering, smoke-producing fires that are more common in homes. That's why ionization detectors are no longer recommended in residential settings. Experts now recommend only photoelectric devices in homes, so if you have these, you should replace all of them with the SC7010B.

Product description

The Kidde KN-COEG-3 AC powered, plug-in CO and explosive gas alarm protect you and your family from two deadly threats. The KN-COEG-3 includes 9V battery backup that provides protection during a power outage, when AC-only units cannot provide protection. By pressing the Peak Level Button you can see the peak CO level recorded by the alarm since it was last reset or unplugged. The continuous digital display shows you the level of carbon monoxide (if any) the unit is sensing as well as if gas is present. The gas sensor is a metal oxide sensor designed to detect natural gas (methane) or propane. Temperature range- 40 degree Fahrenheit to 100 degree Fahrenheit.

Protect your family from the dangers of carbon monoxide (CO), methane, and propane exposure with the Kidde KN-COEG-3 Nighthawk Plug-In Carbon Monoxide and Explosive Gas Alarm. The Nighthawk is an easy-to-install unit that provides reliable protection against the dangers of CO and explosive gas. The digital display shows if gas is present indicates CO levels in parts per million, allowing you to see if, how, and when levels change.

Advanced Technology in an Easy-to-Install, Plug-In Design

Designed for home use, the Kidde KN-COEG-3 Nighthawk is a UL-listed, A/C-powered, plug-in alarm that utilizes sophisticated electronic components and sensor technology to protect you and your family from the dangers of CO, methane, and propane exposure. It plugs directly into a standard A/C outlet and includes a 9-volt battery backup that provides continuous monitoring--even during power outages.

The Dangers of Carbon Monoxide, Methane, and Propane Exposure

The leading cause of accidental poisoning deaths in North America, carbon monoxide (CO) is often referred to as the silent killer because it's odorless, tasteless, and invisible. Carbon monoxide poisoning can come about via a number of sources, including everyday items and appliances in your home or office. And because symptoms of CO poisoning mimic the flu or other common illnesses it can often go undiagnosed.

Likewise, methane and propane gases are commonly used in homes for cooking, heating, and water heating. Although it happens rarely, gas leaks can sometimes occur inside the home, increasing the risk of fire or explosion.

Audible Alarm Pattern Alerts you to Elevated CO and Gas Levels

When placed on every level of your home, alarms like the KN-COEG-3 Nighthawk can help protect everyone in the house by giving you an unmistakable signal when gas levels have reached an unhealthy point. If unhealthy levels of CO are detected, the alarm will emit four quick audible beeps every five seconds until either levels decrease or the reset button is pressed. If methane gas or propane gas is detected, the alarm will emit beeps every other second with "GAS" shown in the display.

Easy-to-Read Digital Display Shows CO Levels

The KN-COEG-3 Nighthawk is preferred among traditional CO and explosive gas alarms because of its digital display. This display clearly shows levels of CO that the unit has detected and stored-- from 30 to 999 ppm--and it updates every 15 seconds to indicate any abrupt changes or alarming trends. The display also shows the peak CO level recorded by the alarm since it was last reset or unplugged. The continuous display also shows if gas is present.

LED Shows Sensor Status

With the KN-COEG-3 Nighthawk, you never have to wonder if the sensor is functioning properly. A blinking dot in the lower right-hand corner of the display denotes normal operation, so you can trust that it's working. In addition, you can test alarm function by pressing the test/reset button at any time to verify that the horn and electric circuitry are operating properly.

Convenient Mounting Options

The KN-COEG-3 Nighthawk has a low-profile design that makes it suitable for any room in your home. The detector can be plugged into any standard A/C outlet; it's plug can be snapped into the back of the unit and can be rotated so the alarm remains vertical, independent of whether the electrical socket is mounted vertically or horizontally. In addition, the alarm comes with a 6-foot extension cord, so the unit can be plugged into the wall outlet and then placed on a table or shelf. For the most thorough protection, place an alarm on every level of your home.

The UL-listed Kidde KN-COEG-3 Nighthawk has a seven-year life and is backed by a five-year limited warranty.

User questions & answers

Question: What is the sound level I need one for basement and need to hear on ground floor
Answer: Dear cutomer, excuse that this prodcut Y301 can't detect hydrogen gas, it's mainly sensitive for methane and propane. thank you very much
Question: is this an explosive gas and carbon monoxide detector? it only says "carbon monoxide detector" on the actual product
Answer: Don't worry, it's normal, the large moisture change can affect the sensor performance, and may lead to false alarm, but the data on display only switch to 1,2 or 3, but won;t trigger the voice and light alarm. If the data become 5 or more than 5, voice and light alarm will be triggered. Thank you very much and best regards.
Question: No manual included. Do I just plug it in and test it? What does it display if gas is detected? Thanks fellow Amazoners
Answer: HI Niran, it's sensitive to methane and propane. We think it can't used to monitor and detect CO. thank you vey much
Question: I smell natural gas in my house, and am wondering if that is the same as explosive gas? Will it detect natural gas
Answer: Dear Karen, temporarily the Y301 doesn't get UL certification, it passed CE, FCC, EMC and RoHs. We are applying US ETL certification which is equivalent to UL certification. Thank you very much and best regards.

User questions & answers

Question: When I unplug this device the green light goes off even though the batteries are installed as a backup. Is that normal
Answer: It's about 5 1/2 in from hinge to hinge ~ 14.5 cm. It does provide full cover. The foam is flush with my face without being uncomfortable. It however is not waterproof. The foam has air slots so it can breathe. I've used these for Chemistry lab as well as wood working, and they work great.
Question: When I try put battery in or plug it in, the alarm goes off! Does that alarm sound stop? It's brand new
Answer: They stay on surprisingly well! I use them for my dog grooming business. They are light weight so that works good for me. They might be a bit too light for sports. If you got hit with a ball they would probably crack and potentially cut you.
Question: How do you turn on the "low battery hush
Answer: Yes, it should do a good job to keep out drywall dust. However, I ended up removing it due to condensation buildup while using it
Question: What is the location of the wall plug on the device? Will it cover the entire outlet
Answer: yes they can fit over Rx glasses but I don't recommend because they became blurring and you will not see very well

User questions & answers

Question: Can hardwired work to other hardwired
Answer: Yes! I just replaced mine and the 12040 is a plug-n-play replacement for the 1275. No changing of electrical or base (if you don't want to.) I changed a couple of bases because of discoloring, however, it didn't need to be done. Very happy with the product.
Question: Can this smoke detector be used in an unheated garage? We live in an area where it gets below zero at times in the winter
Answer: The Kidde i12040 units are "perfect" replacement units (same interface and can swap out) for our previous Kidde 1275 units. I didn't have to change the short electric connector or the ceiling mounting plate. I installed them in early November 2014, and so far all are functioning fine. I replaced four of our six units. When I tested the new detectors, all units -- both the older ones and the new ones -- triggered and alarmed properly. I did replace the mounting units because the old ones were fading... if yours are still in good condition, you don't have to change them. The new plates are identical, and can be installed in the exact same position as the existing plates, and using the existing screws without re-positioning them.Hope this helps. Feel free to contact me for any additional questions on this./Larry -- [email protected]
Question: How to make the order since i need the installation of three kidde ac hardwired wireless interconnect smoke alarms in my house on different floors
Answer: Hello. We here at Kidde are not sure what they are talking about with Generation 1 and Generation 2. We did upgrade our model about 10 years ago from the I12060 to the I12060A. A low battery hush feature was added where if you pushed the test button while it was chirping for low battery, it would stop chirping for low battery for 10 hours. Also there were minor changes in how the red LED indicators indicated alarm memory mode and HUSH mode to save on the battery. The boxes for the alarms and descriptions online will still say I12060 but you are nearly guaranteed to get the I12060A in the box. If you have any issues, please call us at 1-800-880-6788 and let us see if we can figure out what you get and how we can help.
Question: Is this the same as kidde model rf-sm-acdc? the kidde web site doesn't list any model rf-sm-ac
Answer: Hello. Yes, this alarm has the exact same plug and the exact same mounting bracket as the 1276.

Advanced Technology in an Easy-to-Install, Plug-In Design

Designed for home use, the Kidde KN-COPP-3 Nighthawk is a UL-listed, A/C-powered, plug-in CO alarm that utilizes sophisticated electronic components and sensor technology to protect you and your family from the dangers of CO. It plugs directly into a standard A/C outlet and includes a 9-volt battery backup that provides continuous monitoring of CO levels--even during power outages.

About Carbon Monoxide: The Silent Killer

The leading cause of accidental poisoning deaths in North America, carbon monoxide (CO) is often referred to as the silent killer because it's odorless, tasteless, and invisible. Carbon monoxide poisoning can come about via a number of sources, including everyday items and appliances in your home or office. And because symptoms of CO poisoning mimic the flu or other common illnesses it can often go undiagnosed.

Audible Alarm Pattern Alerts you to Elevated CO Levels

When placed on every level of your home, alarms like the KN-COPP-3 Nighthawk can help protect everyone in the house from CO exposure by giving you an unmistakable signal when levels have reached an unhealthy point. If unhealthy levels are detected, the alarm will emit four quick audible beats every five seconds until either levels decrease or the reset button is pressed.

Easy-to-Read Digital Display Shows CO Levels

The KN-COPP-3 Nighthawk is unique among traditional CO alarms because of its digital display. This display clearly shows levels of CO that the unit has detected and stored-- from 30 to 999 ppm--and it updates every 15 seconds to indicate any abrupt changes or alarming trends. The display also shows the peak CO level recorded by the alarm since it was last reset or unplugged.

LED Shows Sensor Status

With the KN-COPP-3 Nighthawk, you never have to wonder if the sensor is functioning properly. A blinking dot in the lower right-hand corner of the display denotes normal operation, so you can trust that it's working. In addition, you can test alarm function by pressing the test/reset button at any time to verify that the horn and electric circuitry are operating properly.

Convenient Mounting Options

The KN-COPP-3 Nighthawk has a low-profile design that makes it suitable for any room in your home.

The UL-listed Kidde KN-COPP-3 Nighthawk has a seven-year life and is backed by a five-year limited warranty.

User questions & answers

Question: Is this a camera? Does it work just like a smoke detector? Will the middle button beep and or turn red if I press it where it says test weekly
Answer: Refer to the Kidde website
Question: What is the manufactured date
Answer: Hello Pam O . The answer to your question is yes and no ! All mounts up on the ceiling or wall can accept different smoke detectors, but you would have to change the backing plate (ring) that is attached to the housing in the ceiling or wall to mount the new detector. Also the 120-1128B uses a different plug that plugs into the smoke detector’s back than others on the market now. There is a adapter that will allow you to connect the old plug into the new smoke detector, but honestly you should remove the old plug that is connected to the wiring in the house by removing the wiring nuts and installing the new plug with wires to the house wires in the ceiling or wall. It really isn’t that hard.... but most importantly.... SHUT DOWN THE POWER FROM THE CIRCUIT BREAKER !!!! If you like there is a YouTube video that shows it and might me helpful to you . The title to put in the search window is, “ replacing the fire x 220-1182 smoke detector with the kiddie i4618”. I know that the kiddie model is different but you will get a better idea by watching. Best of luck !
Question: Does this really take 1 to 2 "months" to ship? Or do you mean 1 to 2 "days
Answer: Hello. There is no direct replacement for your alarms. That being said, you can use any of our current alarms to replace your older alarms. You will have to take down all of the older alarms before putting up any new alarms. You will have to change out the mounting brackets at each location but that will just take a screwdriver to change out. You will either have to change out and rewire the wiring harness plugs at each location or you can choose to use the KA-F2 adaptors to adapt the old plugs to our new alarms. The adaptors would plug into the old plugs and the new alarms would plug into the adaptors.
Question: Does this product satisfy Maryland’s requirements for smoke alarms
Answer: yes, this is the direct replacement.

User questions & answers

Question: Does the plug come with the alarm I need to replace detectors
Answer: Hello. Yes, but not the way you mean. When the alarms go off, there is always one alarm going off and setting off all of the others. This alarm will have a green light flashing every second as well as the red light. You have to identify that alarm and either put it in HUSH mode or unplug it and take it down to stop the others. This is intentional so that if you are not leaving the house then you are identifying and investigating where the smoke situation is and if there is danger. The HUSH mode will make the alarm require more smoke to go off and for a small amount of smoke will stop it for about 8 minutes If there is too much smoke, the HUSH mode will not stop the alarm for going off.
Question: I have a 2003 Nighthawk model that needs to be replaced. Is this the model that would replace it and will it screw nestly into ceiling mount
Answer: Hello. Yes, this alarm comes with a wiring harness connector.
Question: is this combination of smoke alarm and carb monoxide alarm
Answer: Hello. The answer is no, the battery is only a temporary back up. If you want an alarm that is battery only, you will want our KN-COPE-D.
Question: how long will this unit last..is it 7 yrs or
Answer: Hello. When plugged in AC power, it is supposed to have a solid green LED light. When running on battery alone, it should have a green light that flickers every 60 seconds. If this is not what is happening, call us when you are on location with a ladder at 1-800-880-6788 so we can figure out what is going on and how we can resolve this.
