User questions & answers
Question: | Does this device record the temperature changes throughout the day 2 days or 3 days that you can review later |
Answer: | The first part of your question is yes, it records the current temperature. The answer to the second part is no, it only gives the current temperature of the location it is placed; i.e., bedroom, den, bathroom, outside etc. It also gives the humidity. |
Question: | Could this be used in an egg incubator to give a more accurate reading than the built in thermometer-hydrometer |
Answer: | This little device is very accurate we use it in our bath rooms because we are trying to get humidity down so we can install our flooring |
Question: | Does this hygrometer need calibration? It is reading 15 degrees low |
Answer: | Just got mine and the humidity reads 7-10% low. I did the salt water calibration test twice and it never got over 65%. The hygrometer is useless. |
Question: | Does this have a calibration feature? I want to be able to periodically recalibrate |
Answer: | No, it does not. I find it to be quite accurate, though! I would imagine that you could just remove the battery and re-insert it to recalibrate. But manually, no calibration feature. I have baseboard heat with no thermostat so this really helps me know room temperature and humidity. Good product! |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can i reset the comfort range? 79 degrees f is much too high to be comfortable imo |
Answer: | Actually the temp does have a bearing on the comfort indicator as amorina states. It will need to be a minimum of 20 degrees and between 50 and 70% humidity to indicate as comfortable. I agree with you that this is a little high and perhaps 18 would be ok. Other sources state that 40% humidity is ideal so who knows!I think just go with what feels right. In answer to your question though unfortunately the comfort range can not be reset or altered. |
Question: | is this made in usa |
Answer: | In China. I bought 3 of them, but don't find them useful. The setting for humid, dry, comfort is inaccurate for a relativity level reading in a home environment. At least in the Midwest region. They say 49% is dry when in fact it's too much for a home to carry, at least in the winter colder temps. |
Question: | Has anyone had this long enough to know if the battery will last at least one year |
Answer: | This is probably too late to be of use to the original poster, but maybe it will help someone. I purchased mine in March of '17 and the unit just died on me this past weekend, I was still using the original battery. I changed the battery and the thermometer was still dead, but that's less than $10 for nearly 2 years of service on a single battery. |
Question: | Any way to calibrate temperature |
Answer: | Calibrate means that you adjust your measuring tool (e.g. thermometer, hygrometer, speedometer, etc.) to give a known value when it's measuring (detecting) that value; you usually do this by adjusting a screw or other mechanism that results in the unit showing a 'reading', or measurement, of that known value on its display or output. This unit does NOT have any calibration adjustment. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can this thermometer get the temperature in a dryer |
Answer: | I doubt it. The wavelength of the sensor is 8-14 microns and plexiglass has very low transmittance beyond about 3 microns (according to this spec sheet http://www.plexiglas.com/export/sites/plexiglas/.content/medias/downloads/sheet-docs/plexiglas-general-information-and-physical-properties.pdf). Whether or not the material your dryer door is made of is the same is another matter. If the transmittance is close to zero then you will essentially be measuring the temperature of the outside of the door. |
Question: | Does this work on internal meat temperatures |
Answer: | If you cut the meat in half you might be able to take the surface temperature of the meat, but then your meat is going to be cut in half and that's not real appetizing. Blue cheese is very appealing, maybe some bacon. |
Question: | Will this take the temperature of a child's fever also |
Answer: | If your child can open their mouth and hold it open for a few seconds, then YES! It is an extremely accurate way to measure temperature! Just point the dot at the back of the throat, and it gives you an immediate and accurate reading. I'm at a loss why people only considered pointing it at their foreheads or other external body parts. |
Question: | What is the range (distance from gun to target) or recommended for this gun? How accurate is it at 6-8 feet range |
Answer: | The 12:1 ratio means at 12" the gun is accurate for a one inch spot. So at 6'-8' it will be accurate for a 6"-8" inch spot. So the farther you get away from the spot being measured, the less accurate it will be. Like Cheryl said, think of it like a cone. |
