User questions & answers

Question: One of the reviews said you can't brown meat in this pot. Is that correct
Answer: I love these shoes, but they are definitely not waterproof. The fabric soaks up water like a pair of socks. Treat them like you would a regular pair of sneakers and you'll be happy.
Question: Is it made in the USA
Answer: 8.5
Question: Flat bottom suitable for glass top range
Answer: They might because they are like a plastic sticker with non skid pieces attached. The pads are thin. For really hot surfaces, booties probably would be better ( if your dog will wear them).
Question: I followed the cleaning instructions and after 6mths of use the interior is not slick anymore and everything sticks is this normal? Is there a warranty
Answer: No that is the only partly hang on to the paw.

Lodge Cast Iron Camp Dutch Oven, 4-Quart

Lodge

Based on 3 reviews Check latest price

Product description

Regarding the chip in the finish of the product: It is a result of seasoning the pan in production. The cookware is hanging as it rides on a conveyer through the seasoning process. As it rides through the seasoning tunnel, an electrostatic sprayer applies a natural vegetable oil seasoning to the pan. As it the pan passes through the seasoning ovens, the seasoning oil can sometimes collect into a small bubble at the lowest point of the pan and as it’s heated in the seasoning ovens, that bubble can develop a baked-like surface. That surface can sometimes flake and reveal a brownish color beneath. The brownish color is not rust but caramelized seasoning baked onto the iron itself and disappears with use. It is inherent in the seasoning process and not a defect.

  • Cast iron lid inverts for use as griddle

User questions & answers

Question: What is the right size? No more than 4 people camping but 8 or so for-party. Bigger is better
Answer: Yep. It worked on my zap board.
Question: How much does it weigh
Answer: All 3 pieces spread out on the board is 483x400.
Question: Is Lodge Made in America? Please tell me they didn't go to China. Thank you
Answer: Yes, the insoles that come in the shoes are easily removed. I too wear a brace occasionally, because of a foot and ankle injury. These shoes are very comfortable, to me. They are roomy and may not have the support around the foot, but I think they are very comfortable. Mike Falley
Question: How do I know what is the best sized oven for me
Answer: Um? What? My husband's pair smelled like new shoes... Maybe keep them away from your nose?

User questions & answers

Question: Just received my dutch oven in the mail. It is peeling around the edge and on the handle. What is this and what do I do about it? Thanks in advise for any/all advise
Answer: Sounds like the "preseasoning" is wearing off- no biggie, because their preseasoning's really no substitute for good ol' fashioned home seasoning. Give it a nice scrub (without soap, just water and elbow grease), dry it well, oil it up, and run it in a 350F oven for awhile, to start the seasoning process again. Over time, it'll get even better, with use and subsequent oilings and heatings. Alternatively, you could send it back, but really, you'd have to do this same process with a "perfect" one- there's nothing wrong with it, so long as it's not pitted with rust, or cracked. :) Congrats on your purchase- you'll be amazed at how many things you'll use it for.
Question: Is this 7-quart Dutch oven the best size for Jim Lahey's Perfect Bread recipe
Answer: I have the 5 quart and have made several loaves of bread in it. The recipe I have calls for 3 cups of flour. Perfect size oven for that size recipe. Haven't had one single loaf of bread stick to the pot. If you might want a larger pot for other cooking, you might prefer the 7 quart, otherwise, as others have said, 5 quart should do. It's a heavy pot, so a 7 might be more awkward to remove from oven.
Question: IS THIS MADE IN USA
Answer: Yes. All Lodge non-enameled cast iron cookware is made in the USA. On the other hand, Lodge enameled cookware, which this product is not, has to be manufactured out of country. It is my understanding that the enameling process is not allowed in this country. Anyway, rest assured, this product is fine.
Question: Can anyone give me the inside diameters at the top AND bottom for this? I want to use it with an existing fry basket and I need to make sure it will fit. Thanks
Answer: Oven measure 11.75" at the top, and 9" at the very bottom. However, the bottom is rounded at the edge, so it measures 10" about 1/2" above bottom. Total depth is 5".

User questions & answers

Question: can this pot be used in a capfire - directly on the coals? Would oven with legs be bettet for this
Answer: Ys this can be put directly on the coals of a fire. The dutch ovens with legs and flat, rimmed tops are made specifically for use in fire pits. Remember to cook in the coals and place some of the coals on top, that what the rim is for. This model will work if you have a couple of bricks in the fire to give it stability.
Question: Can the wire bail handle be removed from the lid
Answer: The wire bail is not connected to the lid but to the Dutch oven itself
Question: Is the 13 1/4 inch a top or bottom of pot measurement? I need to know measurement across diameter of BOTTOM of pot
Answer: That is external top diameter, not counting wing handles or lip tab on one side. Outside bottom is approximately 11 inches in diameter. (Slightly rounded edges. :))
Question: Can a whole chicken fit in it
Answer: Yes this is an excellent vessel for ANYTHING that fits. Until you become accustomed to it size, try a medium size chicken first. I love this unit.

User questions & answers

Question: What is the diameter of the area that actually touches the burner (on a flat induction cooktop
Answer: The bottom is 9", but part of that includes the curve between the bottom of the pot and the sides so only about 8" would actually be touching the stove surface. When you reverse the "lid" to be a frying pan, 8" would be touching the stove surface.
Question: can it be used in a 500 degree oven to bake bread
Answer: Even though you may not BAKE bread at 500 degrees, it is a good idea to preheat the oven and cast iron up to 500 to compensate for heat loss when you open the oven. I typically turn oven down to 450/425 after I've placed the dough and covered. The preheating seals the crust and allows for a good steam.
Question: Exact dimensions
Answer: Handle to Handle width: 12 5/8"Non-handle width: 10 5/8"Depth including lid: 6 1/4"Depth without lid: 4 1/2"Depth of lid including lip: 1 7/8"
Question: what is best way to re-season the lodge logic l8dd3 before using it
Answer: I'm a bit late for you, but for anyone else who comes along wondering ...Wash well with hot soap and water when you get it home. Then dry it. Then put it on the stovetop on a low heat for a good 10-15 minutes to thoroughly dry the pores, while preheating oven to 350-400. Coat VERY thinly with a HIGH-smoke point oil (grapeseed or flax seed oil). Stick it in the oven, upside down (protect bottom of oven in case you've put too much oil on) and bake for a good hour. Turn off oven and leave pan in oven until cold. You can/should repeat as often as you want initially, up to about 6 times (if you stay aware of the pan, you can remove from oven while still warm to apply another THIN coating of oil, if not then start at the heating pan on stovetop point - best to apply oil to a warm or hot pan), but a couple to a few times should be enough if you're conscientious about applying oil to the heated dry pan after every use. (Oh, don't use soap again, just rinse or wipe out well after every use - using a scraper or hard brush if needed, then heat on stove). Eventually applying another coat of oil to the pan is something that only needs to be done every so often, and you'll have a beautifully seasoned pan without waiting for years! After cooking something greasy, I'd wipe out all the grease, heat the pan well wiping out the extra grease as it heats til pan looks dry. Not necessary to apply oil again since the bacon grease (or whatever) serves as a coating of oil.I have to admit, though, that I've never done the oven method, although I know it's highly recommended. Mostly because I have the time/patience to do it all on the stovetop (takes more babysitting and time). I've always PLANNED on doing the oven method, but it was summer when I got my first cast iron and didn't want to heat up the house. It worked so well for me, I've done all my pans that way. Now that it's winter, I may try putting a couple of my newer pans in oven, but most simply do not need it any longer. The reason I heat the pan on the stove every time after I rinse it is because there could be water vapor in the pores that I can't see. You need to dry that out before you season the pan! Besides, oil is applied better/easier to a warm/hot pan.Lastly, you ALWAYS want the pan to look dry after you've applied the oil. If you can see the oil, or the sheen from the oil, you've applied too much. Literally only takes a few drops! If you apply it too thickly, you'll probably end up with your seasoning flaking off down the road.If rinsing or scraping your pan isn't taking cooked on foods off, then you can use kosher salt as an abrasive. Toss it into the pan (I like to do it while it's warm), and wipe over the spot hard with a towel. It's worked for me every time, though I rarely get stuff cooked on (usually will happen if my daughter cooks since she's new to cooking). Worst case scenario - if you've done the seasoning recommended above, you cannot hurt the pan by boiling water in it for a few minutes, till the cooked on stuff softens. BUT ... you MUST then season the pan, on the stovetop at least!Hope this helps someone!
