In the words of Simon Goubert: Back in 2009, I performed in Senegal for the first time - more precisely in the month of May, at the Saint-Louis Jazz Festival - and first became aware of the kora player Ablaye Cissoko. That year, the opening ceremony began with a concert by the Saint-Louis drum ensemble, conducted by Babou Ngom. As this part of Africa was the cradle of the musical legacy which my musical heroes fed on or at least the spirit of their own music did there was a particular intensity to the concert that I performed with my quartet later in the festival. This was also true of the master classes that I led and the jam sessions which I participated in.
