I didn't test it in the vent part below the floor but the width and height of the car makes it obvious that it wouldn't fit there either. Hope it helps.

Answer:	Yes you can use NiMH AA and AAA rechargeable batteries. Based on our experience with this car, I recommend rechargeable batteries, particularly for the car's 6 AA batteries. Otherwise you'll be buying lots of throw away batteries. Along with the car, we bought the Energizer CHP4W8-4 Smart Recharge AA/AAA Charger with 8AA and 4AAA NiMH Batteries, also from Amazon, and those work well with this car. If you get that, along with 4 additional NiMH AA batteries, you can be charging 6 AA's while you're using the other 6 in the car. The controller batteries last much longer because they're not running motors.
