Answer:	No they are not, they require a fairly cheap LR1130/AG10/389/LR54/390 button cell battery. You can buy a ton for cheap. Great walkie talkie though. Kids loved it. Just be careful of the wrist strap, the links that hold everything in tend to break fairly easily
