However, after I put in the batteries and turned it on, it would roll forward, fall over (on a smooth surface), and turn off. It couldn't be switched on again without putting in new batteries - after being operational less than a minute! Of the 11 robots that I bought for a project, this is the only one that I couldn't get to work properly.

Answer:	To protect children (CPSC safety standards), there are two screws on both sides of the latch. A precision screwdriver (often found in eyeglass repair kits) can be used to remove these screws, then press down on the latch to open the battery cover. The T&K design team is currently in the process of adding more explicit instructions (regarding the screws) to the manual.
