Actual construction for the Angeles Crest Highway began in 1929, then stopped in 1941 due to World War II. In 1946 construction resumed and the highway finally opened in 1956. The road passes through the protected Angeles National Forest and because of that, development is very limited. The bike ride continues on through more of the scenic Angeles National Forest. The Angeles Crest Highway is well-known among bikers for its beautiful scenery. The DVD does take one short detour onto the road up Mt. Wilson which is encased in a cloud. After leaving Mt. Wilson, it's back on the Angeles Crest Highway for a few more miles before the one hour Angeles Crest Bike Ride ends at a scenic overlook.
