Filter socks are recommended to aid in cleaning the aquarium. Do not use if you have macro algae or a refugium. Allow 10 to 14 days for results. Answer:	I tried with both rods that were 1/8 inch It struggled but worked. Welda were not like you would want it to be. I went with 5/32 rods and it was amazingly different. Work really well and welds looked great and penetrated good also. Just have to use smaller rods. Great little machine. I use this in conjuntion with a 2000 watt Honda generator. The honda has no problem running this machine. Would def buy it again
