13 best co2 detectors

Carbon monoxide (CO) detectors are essential devices for ensuring the safety of your home, family, and loved ones. They are designed to detect the presence of carbon monoxide gas in the air, which is colorless, odorless, and tasteless, making it impossible to detect without a specialized device. Here is some important information about CO detectors:

  1. Purpose: Carbon monoxide detectors are designed to alert you when dangerous levels of carbon monoxide are present in your home. This gas can be produced by incomplete combustion of fossil fuels like gas, oil, and wood, as well as from malfunctioning appliances or heating systems.

  2. Detection Method: Most CO detectors use electrochemical sensors, biomimetic sensors, or metal oxide semiconductors to detect carbon monoxide in the air. When CO is detected at a certain concentration level, the alarm is triggered.

  3. Placement: To effectively protect your home, it's important to place CO detectors in key locations. This typically includes one on each level of your home, outside sleeping areas, and near appliances or heating sources that could potentially emit carbon monoxide.

  4. Battery or Hardwired: CO detectors can be powered by batteries, hardwired into your home's electrical system, or a combination of both. Battery-powered detectors are portable and work during power outages, while hardwired units offer continuous operation as long as there is electricity.

  5. Maintenance: Regular maintenance is crucial to ensure your CO detector functions properly. Test the alarm monthly, replace batteries annually, and replace the entire unit every 5-10 years, as specified by the manufacturer.

  6. Alarm Types: CO detectors can produce different types of alarms, such as beeping, flashing lights, or even voice alerts. Some advanced models can also connect to your smartphone and send alerts remotely.

  7. Integration with Smoke Alarms: Many modern CO detectors are combined with smoke detectors to provide comprehensive home safety. This combination is particularly useful because fires and carbon monoxide leaks often occur simultaneously.

  8. Legal Requirements: In many places, including the United States, it is legally required to have carbon monoxide detectors installed in residential properties. Regulations can vary by jurisdiction, so it's essential to check your local building codes and regulations.

  9. Emergency Response: If your CO detector goes off, it is crucial to take immediate action. Evacuate your home, call 911 or the emergency services number in your country, and seek medical attention if anyone in the household is experiencing symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning, such as headache, nausea, dizziness, or confusion.

Carbon monoxide detectors are an essential part of any home's safety system. They provide early warning of a potentially deadly threat, allowing you to take action and protect your family and property. Regular maintenance and compliance with local regulations are essential for their effectiveness.

User questions & answers

Question: Would this device work in a 6' x 6' hunting blind with a Mr. Heater heating unit
Answer: Not for sure but wife read that rhey can fluxiate between 0-3 with no problems mine does it also
Question: your cob b lcm coc allarm is 15$ 6 is 99$ . why does quantity coct more
Answer: When I used the digital gas detector to test it worked fine.
Question: How far apart are the mounting holes
Answer: There are two possible causes. The unit was not zeroed out upon activation or you do have a very low level of gas in your home atmosphere, with the first being my best guess. Unplug and move and re-check the reading. If this does not resolve the issue send it back for a new one. Mine has worked well for 6 months so far.
Question: Why is the 2 pack more than 2 times the price of the single detector
Answer: I returned these detectors. They don't have any information printed on the case - no manufacturer name, no instructions, no UL approved indicator, etc. These were made in China which is usually okay but I am not comfortable in relying on them to protect my family. I will be researching further and looking for better detectors that can be trusted.

User questions & answers

Question: When I unplug this device the green light goes off even though the batteries are installed as a backup. Is that normal
Answer: It's about 5 1/2 in from hinge to hinge ~ 14.5 cm. It does provide full cover. The foam is flush with my face without being uncomfortable. It however is not waterproof. The foam has air slots so it can breathe. I've used these for Chemistry lab as well as wood working, and they work great.
Question: When I try put battery in or plug it in, the alarm goes off! Does that alarm sound stop? It's brand new
Answer: They stay on surprisingly well! I use them for my dog grooming business. They are light weight so that works good for me. They might be a bit too light for sports. If you got hit with a ball they would probably crack and potentially cut you.
Question: How do you turn on the "low battery hush
Answer: Yes, it should do a good job to keep out drywall dust. However, I ended up removing it due to condensation buildup while using it
Question: What is the location of the wall plug on the device? Will it cover the entire outlet
Answer: yes they can fit over Rx glasses but I don't recommend because they became blurring and you will not see very well

It plugs directly into a standard A/C outlet and includes a 9-volt battery backup that provides continuous monitoring of CO levels--even during power outages.

About Carbon Monoxide: The Silent Killer

The leading cause of accidental poisoning deaths in North America, carbon monoxide (CO) is often referred to as the silent killer because it's odorless, tasteless, and invisible. Carbon monoxide poisoning can come about via a number of sources, including everyday items and appliances in your home or office. And because symptoms of CO poisoning mimic the flu or other common illnesses it can often go undiagnosed.

Audible Alarm Pattern Alerts you to Elevated CO Levels

When placed on every level of your home, alarms like the KN-COPP-3 Nighthawk can help protect everyone in the house from CO exposure by giving you an unmistakable signal when levels have reached an unhealthy point. If unhealthy levels are detected, the alarm will emit four quick audible beats every five seconds until either levels decrease or the reset button is pressed.

Easy-to-Read Digital Display Shows CO Levels

The KN-COPP-3 Nighthawk is unique among traditional CO alarms because of its digital display. This display clearly shows levels of CO that the unit has detected and stored-- from 30 to 999 ppm--and it updates every 15 seconds to indicate any abrupt changes or alarming trends. The display also shows the peak CO level recorded by the alarm since it was last reset or unplugged.

LED Shows Sensor Status

With the KN-COPP-3 Nighthawk, you never have to wonder if the sensor is functioning properly. A blinking dot in the lower right-hand corner of the display denotes normal operation, so you can trust that it's working. In addition, you can test alarm function by pressing the test/reset button at any time to verify that the horn and electric circuitry are operating properly.

Convenient Mounting Options

The KN-COPP-3 Nighthawk has a low-profile design that makes it suitable for any room in your home. The detector can be plugged into any standard A/C outlet; it's plug can be snapped into the back of the unit and can be rotated so the alarm remains vertical, independent of whether the electrical socket is mounted vertically or horizontally. In addition, the alarm comes with a 6-foot extension cord, so the unit can be plugged into the wall outlet and then placed on a table or shelf. For the most thorough protection, place an alarm on every level of your home.

The UL-listed Kidde KN-COPP-3 Nighthawk has a seven-year life and is backed by a five-year limited warranty.

User questions & answers

Question: What is the sound level I need one for basement and need to hear on ground floor
Answer: Dear cutomer, excuse that this prodcut Y301 can't detect hydrogen gas, it's mainly sensitive for methane and propane. thank you very much
Question: is this an explosive gas and carbon monoxide detector? it only says "carbon monoxide detector" on the actual product
Answer: Don't worry, it's normal, the large moisture change can affect the sensor performance, and may lead to false alarm, but the data on display only switch to 1,2 or 3, but won;t trigger the voice and light alarm. If the data become 5 or more than 5, voice and light alarm will be triggered. Thank you very much and best regards.
Question: No manual included. Do I just plug it in and test it? What does it display if gas is detected? Thanks fellow Amazoners
Answer: HI Niran, it's sensitive to methane and propane. We think it can't used to monitor and detect CO. thank you vey much
Question: I smell natural gas in my house, and am wondering if that is the same as explosive gas? Will it detect natural gas
Answer: Dear Karen, temporarily the Y301 doesn't get UL certification, it passed CE, FCC, EMC and RoHs. We are applying US ETL certification which is equivalent to UL certification. Thank you very much and best regards.

First Alert Smoke Detector and Carbon Monoxide Detector Alarm | Battery Operated, SCO5CN

FIRST ALERT

Based on 14 reviews Check latest price

Product description

The First Alert SCO5CN Combination Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm features dual sensors to detect both smoke and carbon monoxide in a single device. A photoelectric sensor detects the smoke most often produced by smoldering fires, and minimizes false alarms from cooking smoke or shower steam. Additionally, the advanced electrochemical CO sensor detects carbon monoxide leaks from multiple sources, such as faulty fuel burning appliances, blocked chimneys, and generators running inside or too close to homes. A loud, 85 decibel siren alerts you to the threat; unique alarm sounds and indicator lights on its face distinguish a smoke warning from a carbon monoxide warning. This carbon monoxide and smoke detector is battery operated, so you don't need an electrician for installation. Requiring just two AA batteries and featuring an easy access battery compartment for quick changes, this smoke and carbon monoxide detector has a single button that allows you to silence a false alarm or test the unit.

Carbon monoxide (CO) is the leading cause of accidental poisoning deaths in America, yet many people don't know they are suffering from CO poisoning until its too late. Since symptoms of CO poisoning are like the flu, you might not even know you're in danger at first. That's why a carbon monoxide alarm is an excellent way to protect your family. It can detect the CO you can't see, smell or taste in the air.

The First Alert SCO5CN carbon monoxide and smoke alarm uses an electrochemical carbon monoxide sensor-the most accurate technology available. The alarm uses photoelectric smoke sensing technology which is environmentally friendlier and which reduces nuisance alarms, making it ideal for cooking areas. It is also great for sensing slow smoldering fires quickly. The permanent sensors last the lifetime of the alarm. The test/silence button both silences a non-threatening alarm or low battery warning and allows you to test the unit's functionality. A low battery signal alerts you to replace the battery and end-of-life alarm of three chirps alerts you to replace the unit. Two AA batteries are included. 5-year limited warranty. UL listed. Not available for sale in Massachusetts.--Bree Norlander

User questions & answers

Question: pack is $30, 2 pack is $90. Why is a two pack so much? I thought the idea was to incentivize more product at a lower cost. This is halarious
Answer: I no longer live in the apartment where I replaced the old smoke alarm, but you will love this one. It's so nice to flip the battery holder down and not have to remove the battery from the unit.
Question: Advice on false alarms? Goes off every week or so. It's in our kitchen/living room, but goes off even when we are not cooking. Goes 1 min then stops
Answer: No
Question: I have these througout my house and rental unit. Installed them about 7 years ago and many malfunctioning. Any durability mprovments since 7 yrs ago
Answer: The instructions that come with the unit duplicate what I have read from several Fire Department sources: you can place your unit on the ceiling, but AT LEAST 4 inches (10cm) from the wall. If you want to mount it on the wall, mount it MORE THAN 4 inches (10cm) BELOW the ceiling, but NO LOWER than12 inches (30cm) below the ceiling. It has to be high enough up the wall to "smell" the smoke, but that 4 x 4 inch (10cm x 10cm) area where the wall meets the ceiling can sometimes harbor a "dead zone" of still air where the smoke would NOT reach the detector quickly enough during a fire to warn you in time. Thus, do NOT mount your detectors too close to where the wall meets the ceiling.
Question: How long do batteries last
Answer: Ionization type. I actually looked at at manual to be certain.

User questions & answers

Question: what size room does it cover
Answer: Yes, it does have tripod connection.
Question: How far apart are the screws in the mounting bracket? (We're replacing an old unit (different model) and I'd rather not drill new holes
Answer: I have not used this feature. The instruction booklet says it stores the last measurement, even after it is turned off. Also, you can elect to add to or subtract from the stored measurement, instead of simply replacing it.
Question: Does this detect propane
Answer: The device turns on by pressing the "C" once. You can also turn on by pressing once the pointing button. But if you need to press both at the same time it must be a defect. If it were mine I would send it back since is not working properly
Question: Does it have a way to display "Peak Level" and if so, over what time period
Answer: Use a 45 deg triangle so that device is is pointing up at a 45 deg angle. If don't have 45 deg triangle, just fold a square paper diagonally. Move device until laser is pointing to top of tree. Make sure it is 45 deg with the ground. Now lower the laser so that it is horizontal with the ground. Aim laser at bottom of tree trunk and take a reading. That would be the height of the tree.|\|__\

User questions & answers

Question: Does this device work with Nest products and where ids it made
Answer: This unit does not depend on the internet to work. It is portable. However, it has internet connection ports so it can use every feature the net can offer. I am very pleased with it's operation and quality.
Question: Can this be mounted vertically on a wall
Answer: It has been two weeks since I bought this snake endoscope camera. I used it to repair my drain pipe. When I got this inspection camera, there was still electricity in it. After a full recharged, I used it several times. It still has power. I think it can be used for at least 4 hours after fully charged. This is a good device with a large capacity battery.
Question: Can this be synced with the wireless smoke alarms also
Answer: Hello, this is how I did it. Insert the USB data cable in the shutdown state, and then turn it on again, the data of the TF card can be directly read by the computer. When the memory card is full, I will transfer the important files inside to the computer, and then format the TF card, then you can start using it again, hope it will help you.
Question: Are batteries included with the product
Answer: I use it to check my household appliances. I also encountered the problem of blurred video before. Before using it, check whether the lens is blocked by dirt and wipe it clean with a lens cloth. And because the focus of the inspection camera is 3-10cm/1.2-3.9inch, the observation distance needs to be within this range to get the best quality pictures and videos. When I do these two points, It works well.

The First Alert CO615 carbon monoxide alarm uses an electrochemical carbon monoxide sensor-the most accurate technology available. Installation is as simple as plugging it in to any wall outlet. Its easy-to-read backlit digital LED display gives you a clear read-out of current CO concentrations in parts per million. The alarm includes a battery back-up giving you peace of mind in a power outage. The test/silence button both silences a non-threatening alarm or low battery warning and allows you to test the unit's functionality. The unit monitors and re-alarms if carbon monoxide levels persist sounding a loud 85-decibel horn. An audible and visual low battery signal alerts you to replace the battery and an indicator alerts you when a battery has been removed. An end-of-life alarm of three chirps alerts you to replace the unit. Two AA batteries are included. 7-year limited warranty. UL listed. --Bree Norlander

User questions & answers

Question: What size home would this cover? Do I need more than one in a 1400 sq. ft. space
Answer: Straight into the wall... two prongs on the back. The rear picture shown on Amazon shows the prongs, but it's a little confusing because the battery door is shown open - when the door is shut, it's out of the way so the unit can mount directly on an an electoral socket.
Question: Does this alarm work when using an extension cord or must it be plugged directly into a wall outlet
Answer: The manual for the CO605 plug-in with battery backup says that if the battery is low or missing, it chirps once a minute. I don't have the item myself, so if somebody can confirm that it does chirp if it is plugged in without a battery, I would appreciate it. As to another answer here, if you are hearing 3 chirps per minute, it means the alarm is not functioning properly; it is not because of a low or missing battery, which is supposed to give off only one chirp per minute.
Question: can it detect levels of 20,30 or 40 ppm of CO? I know alot can only detect 70 ppm of CO or above...but I'm concerned of a small CO leak of below
Answer: If it is a 9 volt battery, it may not be seated correctly. See the video on the first alert website, and be prepared to do some hard pushing to get the 9V battery to engage. I had 3 9V units, and 2 of the 3 seemingly required excessive pressure to get the batteries to engage. When I first thought I had the batteries installed by just closing the door, the unit chirped until I got the batteries shoved on hard.
Question: If I plug this directly into the wall does it over both outlets? I have a nightlight in my hall where I want to place this unit
Answer: CO is slightly lighter than air, but about the same weight as Nitrogen molecules that is 78% of air. It mixes evenly over time. Researchers tested this by injecting CO into a column of air at different heights. All trials mixed evenly but the injection at the top took a little longer to reach equilibrium. Therefore, it's more important to put the detector near where the likely source might be or near where people might be sleeping than a particular height. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/21536403/
