12 best rinnai outdoor heaters
Rinnai outdoor heaters, often referred to as outdoor tankless water heaters, are a popular choice for providing hot water in outdoor spaces. These heaters are commonly used in residential and commercial settings to meet various hot water needs, such as for outdoor showers, hot tubs, sinks, or other applications. Here are some key points about Rinnai outdoor heaters:
Tankless Design: Rinnai outdoor heaters use a tankless or on-demand design, which means they heat water as it flows through the unit, eliminating the need for a large storage tank. This design offers energy efficiency and a continuous supply of hot water.
Propane or Natural Gas: Rinnai outdoor heaters are available in models that can be powered by either propane or natural gas. The choice of fuel source depends on the availability of gas connections and your specific requirements.
Compact and Space-Saving: These heaters are typically compact and can be mounted on the exterior wall of a building. This space-saving design is ideal for outdoor installations where interior space may be limited.
Temperature Control: Rinnai outdoor heaters often come with precise temperature control features, allowing you to set and maintain the desired water temperature. This is particularly useful for applications where consistent hot water temperature is important.
Durability: Rinnai is known for manufacturing durable and high-quality water heaters. Their outdoor heaters are designed to withstand outdoor conditions and are often built with corrosion-resistant materials.
Flow Rate: The flow rate of Rinnai outdoor heaters varies depending on the model. It's essential to choose a unit with a flow rate that can meet the hot water demand of your specific outdoor application.
Installation: Installation of Rinnai outdoor heaters typically requires a professional plumber or contractor. Proper installation ensures the heater operates efficiently and safely.
Energy Efficiency: Tankless water heaters, including Rinnai outdoor models, are known for their energy efficiency because they only heat water when needed. This can lead to energy savings compared to traditional tank-style water heaters.
Maintenance: Regular maintenance is essential to keep your Rinnai outdoor heater functioning optimally. This may include flushing the unit to remove mineral deposits and checking for any signs of wear or leaks.
Warranty: Rinnai often provides warranties on their outdoor heaters, which can vary in duration depending on the model and installation type. It's important to understand the warranty terms and conditions when purchasing a unit.
Rinnai outdoor heaters are a reliable and efficient solution for delivering hot water to outdoor spaces. They are designed to meet various hot water demands and offer the benefits of energy savings, precise temperature control, and durability, making them a popular choice for outdoor applications.

This Smart Technology electric tankless water heater is configured as a "whole home" model for climates where incoming water temperature is 67°F and above. This model is well suited for heating up to 2-Gallon per minute, which is the equivalent of one shower head (with a 1.5 gpm flow) and one sink with a low inlet water temperature of 67°F and an output setting of 105°F. Digital Temperature Control allows you to set your temperature in increments of 1 Degree. This model can also be used in colder climates as a Point of Use for a sink or other low flow application. All tankless water heaters are sized based on flow rate and temperature rise, and there is a direct relationship between the two. So if used in a cold area requiring a high temperature rise, it will be more limited in the amount of fixtures (gallons per minute) it can heat at one time compared to a warmer climate. When sized properly this water heater will provide endless hot water and only consume the energy needed, giving the user complete control. Prior to purchase and installation please verify this model is the right size for the expected demand and electrical requirements. The ECO 11 requires a minimum 125 amp electrical panel for installation with 60 amp double pole breaker connected to set of #6 awg wire. Plumbing connections are 1/2" compression fitting with the option of 1/2" NPT adapter included. For additional assistance please feel free to contact our support center at 877-474-6473.
NOTE : 11Kw at 220 is equal to 13kw at 240. .Activation Flow : 0.3 GPM

User questions & answers
Question: | Ours has only been in service for less than a year - will not adjust temperature to anything above 85 Deg. F. What do you think is the problem ? kds |
Answer: | My only guess is that the rheostat (variable resistor) that the temperature adjustment knob is attached to may be faulty. If that isn't it then I don't know. Sorry. |
Question: | The warrenty says that this unit must be installed by a licensed electrician and plumber, for them to honor the "life time warrenty." why |
Answer: | Hello Bob, The reason is the same as why an innumerable number of gadgets around the world have that little "warranty void if removed" label. Because getting inside of one requires a certain level of training and expertise. Same with this unit. GadgetsGo is an authorized Ecosmart dealer. Kind regards,HenryGadgetsGo |
Question: | My house is wired 110V. What additional items do I need to purchase for the conversion |
Answer: | Just to expand slightly on prior answers, normally a residential service feed is 240 volts between the two incoming hot legs. There is also a neutral leg, which (hopefully) has zero potential with reference to ground. The voltage between either one of the hot legs and the neutral leg is 120 volts. The 120 volt circuits in your house are connected to one or the other of the two hot legs, and only one. An attempt is made to assign circuits to the two hot legs in a way that will roughly balance the load between them. The other side of a 120 volt circuit is connected to the neutral leg. There is additionally a safety ground run with the circuit, which also ties into the panel. Certain devices require more power (work product of current and voltage) than is practical to deliver using a 120 volt circuit. Common examples are your clothes dryer, and your electric stove. These devices are powered by both hot legs, with a difference in potential of 240 volts. This water heater is also such a device.STRONG BUT FRIENDLY WARNING: If you did not already know this, please don't make wiring this water heater your learning opportunity with electricity. Hire someone who knows how to do it right. Cutting corners, especially with higher currents and voltages, can lead to equipment damage, fire, and electrocution. Electricity is not magic, and you can certainly learn how to do many common wiring tasks safely on your own, but today is not the day to begin that journey. You need properly sized components, properly installed, and connected to an adequate service. Also, if you really, really foul up, you could conceivably wind up making that morning shower more energizing than you ever imagined, if you get what I mean. So newly aspiring electricians should go fix their grandmother's favorite table lamp instead. Once they have that working they can use it to to start reading books about electricity, residential wiring, and eventually, books about this stuff: http://amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_c_0_8?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=nec+code&sprefix=nec+code%2Caps%2C164 . Of course, you still have to know not to nick conductors when you strip them, and other trade craft like that ; ) . Like almost everything in life that is fun, electricity will hurt you. Sort of like all those people you dated for a while, and then wished later you had never met. |
Question: | what amp breaker is required |
Answer: | The National Electrical Code requires conductors and overcurrent protection to be sized at 100% of the manufacturer's branch circuit recommendation for tankless electric water heaters. A 60 amp breaker is the same price as a 40 or 50, it is the wire that costs more. #6 AWG wire is required for a 60 amp circuit. If you undersize the wire it could overheat and catch fire. Protect your family and follow the manufacturer's sizing for this, or any other, electrical device. Your family's lives are worth the extra money. |

3 Smart Steps for Endless Hot Water
Step 1: Determining your average inlet water temperature is important, this allows you to determine how well your unit will perform in your desired location. A lower inlet water temperature will require a higher kilowatt product.
Step 2: Next you will determine how many applications your unit can run simultaneously at your chosen location inlet water temperature. Tankless electric water heaters are sized for maximum simultaneous use, not maximum fixtures in your home.
Step 3: Determining specifications and electrical infrastructure is important because without the correct infrastructure your unit may not fit into your breaker panel.

User questions & answers
Question: | Can the temperature output be adjusted to 105F |
Answer: | Most rinnai tankless weather it is out door or indoor, have a control board to adjust temp and either on or off |
Question: | Can I use the Rinnai V65EP in Denver, Co? Temperatures during the winter can get below zero |
Answer: | It can definately be out doors in freezing temps, tho power failure arent good for it while in a freeze, tho keep in mind it will use alot more energy for frost protection, indoor units are safer amd more efficient in this case |
Question: | Does this unit come with controller? rinnai tech said i needed a mc-91-2us controller? do i need to buy separate |
Answer: | I bought model V65EN. It came with a wired digital controller. The installer did not run the wire into the house and mount the controller indoors. He simply set the controller at 120 degrees and left the controller inside the unit. If I want to change the temp, I have to take the cover of the unit. |
Question: | What does the "Low NOx Mean |
Answer: | Good place to check for info like this is Wikipedia. Here is what they say: Energy efficiencieseditMore tangible cost savings are defined when comparing the energy efficiencies of gas heaters with low NOx emissions with conventional flued types. Gas heaters with emission problems are flued and inherently lose substantial energies in the form of hot flue gases to the atmosphere. In addition, the choice of placement of flued heaters is greatly impaired due to flue installation restrictions. In contrast, dedicated low emission gas heaters do not require a flue system. Furthermore, with the introduction of oxygen depletion sensors and thermostatic controls, they do not place critical reliance on ventilation as previously was the case. These heaters can be positioned more conveniently and centralised to affect optimum warm air distribution. By definition unflued low NOx gas heaters are 100% efficient as all heat energy released from the flame is converted to useful heat.Hope this helps. June |

User questions & answers
Question: | How do know which size to buy? We will supply two bathrooms, dish washer, clothes washer. What size should I choose |
Answer: | I noted someone below stating they got the largest one and they can only run one water source at a time. My guess is they installed it wrong by not getting the electric hooked up right, or maybe the unit was just defective, or they live in Alaska. I went under size with an Eco 27 a few years ago because that’s all my electric panel could handle. We have zero issues in the summer. During winter months we can only run one shower at a time and have to slowly fill a tub (maybe 3/4 fill speed). To save as much money as I am on electric bill and have unlimited shower lengths (only 1 person at a time mid-Dec to mid-March) is totally worth it. On here today because I’m thinking of upping my panel size so was thinking of going with a larger one now. Regardless, CCRC’s experience with the largest unit not working is nothing like the experience I’ve had, and again I intentionally undersized mine for the house. The website has a clear chart to explain size you need based on number of water fixtures in your home and ground water temperature. |
Question: | Can this unit supply a 3,700 sq foot home with 3 1/2 baths |
Answer: | In the lower states it can, but in the northern states, multiple simultaneous users, it will be overloaded. If you can afford a 3,700 square foot home, then you can place a unit in each appropriate demand zone and be very glad you did. I love mine, live in KY, get great supply when the water is above 60 degrees, and then it slows the flow as the temperature drops. I have dishwasher, washing machine, garden tube, 2 showers, 3 sinks and 4 people. It is better than great in the summer, okay spring and fall, and we are conservative in the winter. |
Question: | What is the power consumption of this tank-less heater |
Answer: | The instantaneous power consumption while the hot water is running is quite high (up to 18kW or 27kW depending on which model you’re looking at on this page). However, when no hot water is being used, the power consumption is 0 (or a minuscule amount to run an LED light or something). The total power consumption over the course of several days or longer should be much lower than a tank heater but the short term power usage while the heater is making hot water will be much higher than a tank heater. It’s just that the unit sits idle most of the time while a tank heater will use power fairly frequently even when no hot water is needed as the water in the tank cools off over time and needs to be re-heater fairly constantly |
Question: | remote |
Answer: | This unit does not have the ability to have a remote temperature control. |

Question: | When installing this with the Ubbink horizontal concentric kit is a condensate collector needed in addition to the 12 or 21" kit? Finding mixed result |
Answer: | I would say yes as I understand it the concentric is just the air intake and exhaust you would have condensation either way. Question: | Does the isolation valves that are included also come with the pressure relief valve |
Answer: | The hooks up on the right but I would not recommend this product the pilot light does not stay on and customer service is terrible. |
Question: | Are the isolation valves included with water heater |
Answer: | Hello Summer, we're sorry to hear you are experiencing this issue with your fireplace log set. Our first suggestion would be to have your gas installer measure the gas pressure incoming to the unit they should have already done so and hopefully written it down. If they did not, they'll need to measure/adjust it to comply with the pressure parameters outlined in the owner's manual! If the pressure is incorrect the unit will not operate correctly. If you need additional assistance, our Technical Support Team is happy to help! Just reach out by phone at 877-447-4768 or email here: http://www.ghpgroupinc.com/CTUS.html -GHP Group Customer Support |
Question: | Is this unit condensing |
Answer: | Hello Rosie, we're terribly sorry your question missed our radar. This log set operate thermostatically, so it will regulate on and off based on the heat setting (1-5). If they do not relight there may not be enough gas pressure for the unit to stay lit, please refer to the owner's manual for those pressure parameters based on your gas source and correct your pressure accordingly. Question: | My plumber is looking for the exhaust venting for this tankless hot water heater.. Pipe for exhaust, 90 degree iPod, gasget? Help |
Answer: | The exhaust pipe in the manual is this one https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ED10Y6C/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 |
Question: | Will this suffice for a 4 bathroom home in Dallas? Looking at temperature rise of ~45 degrees (110 desired minus 65 groundwater temperature |
Answer: | It's 10 gal/min... if you have a shower that is NOT a water saver and uses 6 gal/min... someone is going to miss out, no problem on the 45 deg rise, but we find that 130 deg is more desirable and still no problem in Albuquerque where the water temp MAY go into the 30s but most likely not less than about 45... HTH |
Question: | Where is it manufactured |
Answer: | JAPAN by one of the best hot water heater manufacturers in the world. Few if any can compair with Takagi, IMHO! Best unit I have ever installed, bar-none! |
Question: | what does "condensing" mean in this case |
Answer: | I can't stop laughing after reading the answers + there are 11 people with less clue who found the "explanations" useful... Guys, please allow me to explain the process: The condensation units have a secondary heat exchanger which takes the exhaust from regular 80% efficiency and "works" the water again in order to heat it even more, while cooling down the exhaust. Doing so the exhaust will be cool and it will condensate. This condensed exhaust will run down the vent and is gathered in an internal tray from where it goes to the condensation drain. Under NO CIRCUMSTANCES is the condensed exhaust in contact with your hot (or cold) water. By re-using your exhaust (hot), the efficiency will show on paper an additional 15% -17% added to the standard 80% of a conventional water heater. |

Question: | Hi, the valve kit needs Male NPT thread at both ends, is it right ? Thanks |
Answer: | I do not believe so because they are different model numbers. |
Question: | What is the difference between this one and RTG20220AB? Can I buy this instead of RTG20220AB |
Answer: | I do not have recirculation setup yet. I believe this unit comes with the control functionality for recirculating but that you still need to install your own pump inline with the return water line. |

At this inlet temperature the ECO POU 3.5 can heat 0.5 gallons per minute to 105°F. Its compact size allows for under the sink installations. The Point of Use models are ideal for: Wet Bars, Strip Malls, Doctor's Office, Boats, Recreational Vehicles (RVs), Bathroom Sinks. When sized properly this water heater will provide endless hot water. Prior to purchase and installation please verify this model is the right size for the expected demand and electrical requirements. User questions & answers
Question: | Can the flow rate be adjusted up from 0.5gpm to say 1gpm or 1.5gpm (understood that the output water will be corresponding less hotter)? thanks in adv |
Answer: | This is a 199,000 btu model, a 3/4" gas line is required to have sufficient gas supply. |
Question: | degree water going in what degree will be at the tap |
Answer: | rinnai recommends the GTK03 Grundfos kit for this unit |
Question: | are any of these tankless water heaters plug in |
Answer: | I think, you need buy a WiFi module, call Rennai and ask. Circ-logic did not work for me, I had to install re circulation pipe. Because of the high minimum flow requirements, this unit did not work with any regular re circulation pump, so wasted money buying a Watts pump. And paid double for the labor. Rennai told me that I should have bought their thankless heater with re-circulation built in. |
Question: | Would you recommend this model for a shower in a guest bathroom |
Answer: | IT CAME WITH ADAPTERS ON THE TOP. NO PIPING. |

3 Smart Steps for Endless Hot Water
Step 1: Determining your average inlet water temperature is important, this allows you to determine how well your unit will perform in your desired location. A lower inlet water temperature will require a higher kilowatt product.
Step 2: This product is fixed flow, which means that the output temperature rise of this product is determined by flow rate of the application. This chart gives you the expected temperature rise for various sink flow rates from 0.5 to 1.5 gallons per minute.
Step 3: Determining specifications and electrical infrastructure is important because without the correct infrastructure your unit may not fit into your breaker panel.
