User questions & answers
Question: | How long is the hose |
Answer: | The vacuum hose is 140 inches long plus couplings on either end. |
Question: | When used as a wet vac do you need to remove the hepa filter |
Answer: | Yes, there is a wet filter to use when wet pick up is required. |
Question: | Is this the newest version |
Answer: | Yes, it is! |
Question: | Is it terribly fragile? the specs say "item weight 1 pounds" is it really that light? If not, what is the weight |
Answer: | I suspect that the description weight is for the filter bag only. The entire unit weight is probably near 50 lbs. I have not weighted mine. It rolls easily. I really like the feature that allows me to lock the FESTOOL cases for the saw, sander, and others on top of the vacuum and roll them around. The size of this unit is also very convenient in my small shop. I am not a professional but just use it at home. |

Dust control is an integral part of the Festool system and design philosophy. That is why the CT 36 AutoClean is equipped with tool-triggered auto start functionality so that when you plug your tool into the supplied outlet socket, the vacuum cycles with the tool. This represents greater efficiency in dust extraction, noise reduction, and with less energy consumption versus a constant-on unit. Variable suction force allows you to regulate the suction based on your tasks. A small detail sander may not require the full 137 CFM of this unit, but a router may require it. This unit comes standard with an automated fitler cleaning mechanism that prevents fine dust from clogging the filter which reduces suction. We further optimize efficiency with the low-profile, flat-top design that allows the CT top to double as a tool rest as well as an integrated hose garage and docking station that allows the connection of Festool Systainers (not included) for easy transport and storage. The low center of gravity, integrated center handle, and extra large wheels make navigating rough terrain in the shop or jobsite easy without tipping over. A parking brake can even be locked to prevent unintentional roll off or drifting. The supplied 11-1/2 ft. 36mm anti-static (AS) hose is long enough for power tool and general work site clean up tasks and is designed to be ultra flexible and lightweight. With an industrial design for heavy use the CT is equipped with over 24 feet of 12 gauge cord. A cord wrap is supplied to attach to the rear of the unit. With 137 CFM and only 62 dB (on the low setting), the CT 36 can quickly and quietly remove large amounts of debris, with minimal noise. A high performance 1-micron filter comes standard and offers the ultimate in clean air and filtration. The CT 36 AutoClean is specifically designed to complement the PLANEX Drywall Sander but can also be used as a general dust extractor for all tools.
- Automatic filter cleaning technology ensures maximum suction when used with Planex Drywall Sander
- Automatic Tool Start and adjustable suction with tool triggered or manual on-off switch and infinitely variable suction force, can be used wet or dry
- Supplied with lightweight 11-1/2 foot long anti-static hose that is flexible and kink-resistant
- Sys-dock and hose garage feature allows for the storage and transport of Festool Systainers
- Large wheels, low center of gravity, and ergonomically balanced design
User questions & answers
Question: | Is the supplied hose the same as replacement hose 496972? That's a black hose, anti-static, that has a special collar for locking to Planex |
Answer: | Yes Absolutely. And the vacuum can be used alone as well. You will love it! |
Question: | can i use other festool tools with this vacuum |
Answer: | I use this Festool strictly for sanding and dust extraction. |
Question: | How suitable is this for use as a general purpose shop-vac? or is it only good for dust extraction |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can this be used with any brand of power tool, or only Bosch brand? Thanks |
Answer: | I’ve never had any line noise or popping using optical. That is via a TV not computer but can’t imagine it would be different. The only popping I’ve ever had was if the power was pulled from the unit and then plugged back in while the volume was up but you shouldn’t ever need to unplug it, it doesn’t run hot or draw power when the switch is off. |
Question: | Does anyone use a cyclone with one of these? If so, does it help much |
Answer: | It is 110v. |
Question: | Does the auto clean filter actually work |
Answer: | There is a join in and out on the back of the unit. You could connect all 3 that was. You would just use a 1/4 cable between each unit. Thank you Kim at The Recording Store |
Question: | Is there a benefit to using a hepa filter (given that you cant use auto clean with it) over using std. filter with fleece bag, and auto cleanAfeature |
Answer: | You really should get 2. It all depends on what ohm your headphones are. But 20 is probably too many. Buy 2 and link them together. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Hi guys. What to buy to make this vac start remotely |
Answer: | Aws receiver |
Question: | country of origin |
Answer: | This is made by Nilfisk. The only thing the Makita engineers did to this is to put the Makita label on it. |
Question: | What is the plastic bag for? Water? Does it have multiple uses |
Answer: | You can use the plastic bag to keep the canister clean and for tidier disposal. You don’t have to use the bag at all if you don’t want to. If you’re grinding concrete or have very fine dust, you should use felt filter bats, not plastic bags. |
Question: | Can you disable the popping sound |
Answer: | Yes, turn knob to continuous. I have had same bag in Vac for 2 months. I have had no need to have the blow cycle on. The filter is clean. |

User questions & answers
Question: | What's the difference between this model and festool 203408 tradesman/installer cleaning set |
Answer: | It has the braided sleeve, if that is what you mean. |
Question: | Is this the new d36 hoses |
Answer: | As far as I know, all festool vac hoses fit all festool vacs. This set has the larger 36mm diameter hose, but the fitting at the vac end is the same size as the hose that came with the vac. |
Question: | Does this fit a ct midi usa hepa 120v r |
Answer: | 3.5 meters, = 11.48 feet from festoolUSA website. Same length as the standard hose that comes with the CT/midi/mini vacuums but bigger diameter. |
Question: | How long (in feet) is this hose? thank you |
Answer: | Yes |
Question: | Will the low suction setting be sufficiently low for optimal performance of a Festool Orbital Sander |
Answer: | Yes. Though it is cheaper to just get the bag filter for your rigid vac. I only take my expensive ct36 on job sites when it’s Hospital work and I don’t let just anyone use it because they are so expensive. |
Question: | Will this vac work well for cleaning jobsites like the Rigid vacs? I need a vac that doesn't blow dust all over the place in residential situations |
Answer: | Yes you can plug it the CT outlet, the dust hose might fit depending on your model. |
Question: | Dose it connect with Dewalt sander |
Answer: | This dust collector will do that, no Bluetooth module required. Just flip the dial to "auto". If you do get the Bluetooth module, you can ALSO use a wireless button to activate manual-on mode (useful to have at the end of your hose so you can quickly suck up dust after disconnecting from your tool without reaching for the vacuum body). |
Question: | What is the Bluetooth function? I want a vacuum that turns on when the tool that is plugged into it turns on. Will this do that |
Answer: | Peak HP: 1.85 |
Question: | How much horse power this vacuum have |
Answer: | Make sure you think about the power requirements first. If you plan on using this vac and planer combo with the auto start-stop via the onboard port I would think again. This vac has a max draw of 11.6 amp during continuous use (more during startup). The planer is also a 15 amp unit, but in my experience draws about 12amp during planing operations. So, even if you have a 20 amp circuit you are probably going to trip the breaker when the vac kicks on. The onboard tool port works great for lower draw items like sanders though. Depending on how your house or shop is wired you may still have the same problem plugging into two different outlets if they are wired on the same circuit. |
Question: | Will this unit fit a DW735X DeWalt planer out of the box |
Answer: | I have two of the larger dwv012 units and they are amazing. 2 hepa filters, adjustable suction, back pulses filter every 30 seconds, don't have to stop and clean filter like shop vacs. Don't know about smaller unit. I needed the big ones because I do lots of concrete grinding. They work great. I'll never go back to a shop vac. |
Question: | What is the main difference between this and dwv010 (smaller model)? what about between this and a regular wet/dry vac |
Answer: | The OD on the hose (I just measured it) is 1.5". The hose is very long, which I guess could be a good thing but to me the narrow diameter and length really made the airflow poor. You could hardly use it as a vacuum, unless I put the hose end brush right on top of the dirt it wouldn't suck it up. I switched the hose to a 2.5 inch that I had sitting around, which fit fairly snugly over this connector thing they have at the vac opening (it is not a regular shopvac type hose, it is one of those collapsible hoses. My Rigid 2.5 inch hose would not quite fit the fitting on the vac canister. . The hose, and the vac canister itself, have these very bulky connectors that do not seal well and have only a narrow opening. I was very underwhelmed with the design and with the amount of suction. I had hoped to use this, inaddition to connecting to tools (for which it does work well) as a general shopvac, but it can't do that, so I still have to use the old Rigid vac which I had hoped to replace |
Question: | what size is the hose and fittings |
Answer: | Auto filter clean? No. The auto filter clean doesn’t carry the fully unit hepa certification from what I had read. It’s not necessary from my experience either. |

- Constantly high suction because of the compact high performance turbine
- Autoclean automatic main filter cleaning system with infinitely adjustable cleaning intervals for consistently high suction power
- Maximum utilization of the container volume – the gross volume is the same as the Net volume
- Can be individually Retrofitted with an additional compressed air or Bluetooth Module for remote control on the suction hose or automatic start via the Bluetooth battery pack.
User questions & answers
Question: | I have a bunch of floor tile mortar bed to grind. Would this self cleaning be good for the fine dust that creates |
Answer: | Yes, I use the disposable plastic bags for drywall dust and HEPA filter bags for other things. Unsure what you mean by turning the ac off, but I remotely turn the CT36 on and off using a power strip plugged into an extension cord plugged into the CT36's AC outlet. A few clamp lights plugged into the power strip is all it takes for the CT36 to sense a power draw and turn on the vac. Flip the power strip power button off and the vac stops.
