Answer:	The other answers really don't address your question. Hint to others: if someone is asking a question like this, they probably aren't familiar with jargon like "drive size." The 1/2" vs 3/8" refers to the size of the square lug at the end of the ratchet that you fasten the sockets to. 3/8" sockets will have a 3/8" opening that goes onto the rotating lug of the ratchet. Obviously bigger is more sturdy, but for general home use 3/8" would be plenty adequate. They even make 1/4" drive that's lighter duty, but 3/8" is a popular size and good for overall use. 1/2" would generally be for heavier duty like general automotive bolts. 3/4" and 1" drive sizes get you into heavier automotive (trucks and bigger) and industrial applications.

If you want an all-around kit, the 247 piece is nice because you have the screwdriver set and the wrenches. But if you want a better kit of just sockets and ratchets the 192 is the better kit.
