A combination square 6" is a versatile measuring and layout tool used in carpentry, woodworking, and various DIY projects. It consists of a ruler or blade, a square head, and a protractor head, all combined into one compact tool. Here's what you need to know about a combination square 6":

  1. Measuring: The ruler or blade of the combination square typically measures 6 inches (or 150 millimeters). It is marked with clear, easy-to-read graduations in both imperial (inches) and metric (millimeters) units. This allows for precise measurements when marking and cutting materials.

  2. Square Head: One of the key features of the combination square is the square head, which is a right-angled, flat-edged component. It is used for checking and marking 90-degree angles, ensuring that cuts and joints are square and accurate. The square head can be locked in place at the desired angle.

  3. Protractor Head: The protractor head is designed to measure and mark angles other than 90 degrees. It is equipped with a scale that allows you to set and measure angles from 0 to 180 degrees. This is especially useful for tasks that require cutting or marking angles, such as miter cuts and bevels.

  4. Level and Plumb Vials: Some combination squares include built-in level and plumb vials in the square head. This feature helps ensure that your work is level and plumb while also serving as a convenient leveling tool.

  5. Adjustability: The combination square typically has a locking mechanism that allows you to secure the square or protractor head at the desired position. This ensures that your measurements and angles remain consistent while working on your project.

  6. Marking and Layout: Combination squares are widely used for marking and laying out cut lines, joinery, and other important reference points on various materials, including wood, metal, and plastic.

  7. Versatility: Because it combines multiple functions in one tool, a combination square is versatile and can replace several separate measuring and layout tools, saving both time and space in a toolbox.

  8. Durability: High-quality combination squares are typically made from durable materials such as stainless steel or hardened steel, ensuring longevity and accuracy over time.

  9. Storage: Many combination squares come with protective cases or sleeves to keep the tool in good condition and prevent damage to the measurement markings.

In summary, a combination square 6" is an essential measuring and layout tool in carpentry, woodworking, and home improvement projects. Its ability to measure, mark, and set angles makes it a valuable addition to any toolbox, allowing craftsmen and DIY enthusiasts to achieve precision and accuracy in their work.

User questions & answers

Question: Can this square head be used with other Starrett square rulers
Answer: They are an open end with the notches on each side of the jaw that prevent slippage. They are long handle, not standerd length. Nice smooth chrome finish. I like them. I have had no problems and I use them professionally in the maintenance of a thermal power plant for a power utility.
Question: Is this still made in USA
Answer: I have 2 tool truck guys that will warranty, when needed Matco and MAC, Snapon wont. Sears gave me a new GW 10mm flex head ratcheting a couple years ago, sears closed up near me now. But let's face it how often do you break/damage a wrench that doesn't flex or ratchet. I've had them for over 2 years in my box at work and used when I needed a non rateching wrench and haven't even been close to breaking one yet. They work great, a lil bigger in places compared to the name brands, for the price you can't beat it. they will last my lifetime no doubt
Question: Is the rule available separately without the head
Answer: I have found the "Asian Treasures WR 160004 Wrench Roll 28 Pocket" right here on Amazon that fit these wrenches well. I purchased 2 to fit both SAE & Metric. Worked well for me. Check them out.
Question: Are the measurement lines engraved or painted on
Answer: They make a kit with just bigger wrenches like 28-36 or something like that. Not sure of the part number though

User questions & answers

Question: Does the rule have the satin chrome finish, or the reflective finish
Answer: If you're only using them occasionally, then they'll be fine. I'm a carpenter but every once in a while I have to turn nuts and bolts on the job. I put these in my equipment trailer for that purpose (I didn't want to buy another expensive set like I have at home) and they've worked fine so far. You'll probably misplace one before you break one.
Question: Is this made in usa? i just recieved the "shiny" black starrett off amazon and it is not. is this really usa made
Answer: No there isn't a 17mm in the set.. There is a 7mm, 8mm, 9mm, 10mm, 11mm, 12mm , 13mm, 14mm, 15mm, 18mm, 19mm and a 22mm.
Question: Has anyone had a problem getting the square back on the ruler
Answer: No just combination wrenches.
Question: What's the difference between the c11h model and just the 11h model
Answer: they are 12 point.
