Mastech IR thermometers, also known as infrared thermometers, are handy tools used for non-contact temperature measurement in various applications. These devices are commonly used in the fields of electrical, HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning), automotive, and industrial maintenance. Here's what you should know about Mastech IR thermometers:
Non-Contact Measurement: Mastech IR thermometers use infrared technology to measure the temperature of objects or surfaces without the need for direct contact. This feature makes them useful for measuring temperatures of hot or hard-to-reach objects safely.
Temperature Range: These thermometers typically have a wide temperature range, allowing you to measure both high and low temperatures accurately. The specific range may vary depending on the model.
Accuracy: Mastech IR thermometers are designed to provide precise and accurate temperature readings. The accuracy can vary between models, so it's essential to choose one that meets your specific measurement requirements.
Emissivity Setting: Many Mastech IR thermometers allow users to adjust the emissivity setting. Emissivity is a measure of an object's ability to emit thermal radiation, and setting it correctly is crucial for accurate temperature measurements of various surfaces, including shiny or reflective ones.
Dual Laser Targeting: Some models feature dual lasers that help you pinpoint the exact spot you want to measure. This can be particularly useful when working with small or specific areas.
Backlit Display: Many Mastech IR thermometers have a backlit display, making it easy to read temperature measurements even in low-light or dimly lit environments.
Data Hold and Storage: These thermometers often include a data hold function that allows you to freeze the displayed temperature reading for easy recording. Some models also have built-in memory for storing multiple temperature readings.
Battery Life: IR thermometers typically run on batteries (often AA or AAA). The battery life can vary depending on usage, but they are generally designed to be energy-efficient.
Applications: Mastech IR thermometers find applications in a wide range of industries, including food safety (for checking cooking temperatures), automotive (for engine diagnostics), HVAC (for checking air conditioning systems), and electrical (for detecting hotspots in electrical equipment).
Safety: These thermometers are safe to use as they do not require physical contact with the object being measured, reducing the risk of burns or injuries.
In summary, Mastech IR thermometers are valuable tools for non-contact temperature measurement in various industries and applications. When choosing one, consider factors such as temperature range, accuracy, emissivity settings, and additional features that may be beneficial for your specific needs.

User questions & answers
Question: | What versions of Windows does this work with |
Answer: | If it is the correct physical size, it should work. I put mine in a Bobcat Skid Loader and it is great. Do a little research to make sure the out put of the battery meets or exceeds what is specified for your truck. You can call the auto parts store and ask what size code and output voltage etc fits your truck, then compare. I will never buy another lead acid battery again. Sold on AGM. |
Question: | A review by sped mentions usb working well with artesian software for coffee roasting. i was wondering if he was using a mac or pc? plug and play |
Answer: | No. I don't think so. Looks like you need a PL-AGM34/78 |
Question: | How do you use the auto calibration on this |
Answer: | I am not familiar with the 24f, but mine does have a vent tube in the middle of the negative post side. There is what looks like a rubber cap on positive post side also. So it looks like the vent could be switched to either end. |
Question: | I have upgraded my laptop to Win10 and need to reload the software, but cannot locate the disc that came with it. Know where I can another |
Answer: | Hi, I suggest you consult your owners manual and find the fuse that protects the windows. I am thinking it is blown. Maybe there was a surge when you connected the cables to the battery and that fuse blew. Other than that, I see no reason for there to be a connection between the new battery and the windows. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this measure temperature |
Answer: | This multimeter comes with MS3206, an adapter with hookups for diodes and thermocouples. Unfortunately the thermocouple sockets are useless on this multimeter. When used with other Mastech multimeters, such as the MS8217, this adapter + a thermocouple will read temperature. |
Question: | Does it store min/max values |
Answer: | It does have a max/min function, but no longer-term memory storage. So, you could measure max/min values for one set of readings, but when you measure something else, the prior readings will be lost. |
Question: | is tihis device is good to test all major appliances |
Answer: | For electrical testing, yes. |
Question: | How accurate/effective is the capacity tester |
Answer: | This is an effective capacity tester. I use it to ohm out vehicle data cables, computer system boards and power supplies. It gets the job done. |

User questions & answers
Question: | I am getting no reading when set to ohms, and I have the leads touching each other, can that be a buss fuse issue, as all other display's etc. seem OK |
Answer: | More information might be needed, but I will make some assumptions and give as good an answer I can. First be sure you have selected the OHMS function. This is done by turning the dial to the second detent LEFT of the OFF position. Then press the SELECT button until a tiny OHMS icon with an M in front of it is displayed. The reading should show O.L at this time. Be sure your probes are pushed fully into the meter- the red lights on the connection indicators will go off when fully pushed in. When you touch the probe leads together the display should change to 000.0. Pressing the RANGE button at this time will change the display ICON and the output reading to reflect the selected range. There is not really any need to change the RANGE function- the meter does this automatically and shows the range it is using on the display. The lowest range (with just the OHMS icon and OL. should read somewhere around .4 or .5 when using the probe wires supplied by the Mfg. This is supposidly the actual resistance of the probe wires themselves. Further presses on the SELECT button will change the meter to another function- Decibel power, Diode test, Ground indicator, or Capacitance test. Each function shows a slightly different display and default output reading. Most (maybe all) functions also have Auto range and manually selectable ranges selections. Hope this helps.Ray [email protected] |
Question: | Does it come with carry case/strap |
Answer: | The Mastech MS8229 does not come with a carrying case or a strap in the original box. I was unable to find a case or strap made specifically for this device but, if the meter appears to fulfill your needs this should not be a deal breaker. I purchased an ideal Aluminum case(complete with handle) at a hobby shop, along with some foam. I cut and lined the case to hold both the meter, leads, and a few additional pieces of equiptment I typically carry. Works as well or even better than anything crafted by the manufacturer. |
Question: | Is this meter a true rms measure |
Answer: | No it's not, but unless you need a really a specific measurement when reading AC signals, this multimeter is not for you. when I bought this multimeter I had the same concern about not having the RMS measurement but really, you need to put in perspective what you need to do with it, because overall this is a great multimeter. |
Question: | does it come with a buss fuse |
Answer: | It does have fuses, they are two (2). One of 600mA and one of 10A. |
Question: | Is this a counterfit?? The ad claims it is made by Sinometer. No where on the box, manual or meter shows the name Sinometer |
Answer: | Some Googling turns up that Sinometer and Mastech are related companies. It appears that the brand names are somewhat interchangeable, and often meters marked "Mastech" are listed as being from Sinometer. E.g. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA04E0BA8503. Item title is "Mastech 8268", box and product both say Mastech. Meter works. Probably not worth worrying about. |
Question: | How can you turn off the audio alarm? The alarm in my new meter will not turn off |
Answer: | From what I understand the audible continuity function doesn't turn off when you have it set to check for continuity. |
Question: | How many decimals places of accuracy does it have when measuring resistance or ohms. I need one that does fractional ohm readings to the 1000th |
Answer: | At 0.543 ohms you are going to be reading the resistance of the meter test leads combined with the resistance of the part under test. hence the need for a expensive 4 wire high accuracy ohm meter. |
Question: | does this measure capacitance |
Answer: | according to the product description towards the top of page the capacitance upper range is 200uf instead of 20uf, I recently measured a new run capacitor rated at 35 +/- .6 and it measured at 36uf |

Question: | What is included in the box. Can you please verify this is a legit product |
Answer: | Hi, Markita I am a Cosmetologist of over 40 years and have used many products over the years. This product works well if you have relaxed hair. There are many gels out there, but some can turn flaky. This one is a family members line that I love, because it is natural products. Creme of Nature has one as well. |
