| Answer: | I'm using two of these 700-watt dimmers for LED applications. One 700-watt dimmer switch is used for 6 recessed "in-the -ceiling" canned LED lights. My second 700-watt dimmer switch is used for 8 "puck" LED lights used for my upper wall kitchen cabinets. Both applications work well. My understanding is that the 450-watt dimmer switch won't handle the electrical current requirements of incandescent or halogen bulbs so you can't use it for anything other than LED & CFL bulbs. However, the 700-watt dimmer should allow for either application, so it allows you more options. It's just a more robust switch that will handle higher amounts of electrical current to flow through it. The application (the bulb type), not the switch, dictates how much current will flow through the switch. |
