3 best solar powered heater for camping

Solar-powered heaters for camping are portable heating solutions designed to harness solar energy for warming up small spaces, such as tents or camping trailers. These heaters are an eco-friendly alternative to traditional fuel-powered heaters and are particularly useful in off-grid camping scenarios. Here are some key features and aspects of solar-powered heaters for camping:

  1. Design and Portability: Solar-powered camping heaters are designed to be compact, lightweight, and portable. They are easy to carry and set up, making them suitable for outdoor activities such as camping, hiking, or backpacking.

  2. Solar Panels: The heaters are equipped with integrated solar panels that capture sunlight and convert it into energy. These panels are typically flexible and can be easily folded or rolled up for convenient storage and transport.

  3. Battery Storage: To provide heat during periods when sunlight is not available, many solar-powered heaters for camping come with built-in rechargeable batteries. The solar panels charge these batteries during the day, and the stored energy is then used to power the heater at night or when sunlight is insufficient.

  4. Heating Technology: The heating technology varies among different models. Some use radiant heating elements, while others may use convection or forced-air systems. The goal is to efficiently convert the solar energy into heat to warm the surrounding space.

  5. Temperature Control: Advanced models may have temperature control features, allowing users to adjust the warmth according to their preferences. This ensures comfort and prevents the space from becoming too hot or too cold.

  6. Safety Features: Solar-powered camping heaters are designed with safety in mind. They often include features such as automatic shut-off mechanisms to prevent overheating and ensure safe operation in enclosed spaces.

  7. Durability and Weather Resistance: Given the outdoor nature of camping, these heaters are typically designed to be durable and weather-resistant. They can withstand exposure to elements like rain and wind, ensuring reliable performance in various conditions.

  8. Versatility: Some solar-powered heaters are designed not only for heating but also for charging small electronic devices like smartphones or cameras. This adds to their versatility and usefulness during camping trips.

  9. Environmental Benefits: By utilizing solar power, these heaters reduce reliance on traditional fuels, contributing to environmental conservation. They produce no emissions during operation, making them a cleaner and greener choice for camping.

  10. Usage Limitations: It's important to note that the effectiveness of solar-powered heaters is dependent on sunlight availability. In cloudy or overcast conditions, the heating capacity may be reduced. Therefore, users should be mindful of weather conditions when relying on these heaters.

In summary, solar-powered heaters for camping offer a sustainable and portable solution for staying warm during outdoor adventures. They leverage solar energy to provide heat and are designed with features that prioritize safety, portability, and environmental friendliness.

User questions & answers

Answer: I think China, but not positive. Almost certainly not U.S. made. In the rare cases that are, you'd see something like "Proudly made in the USA."
Question: what about purchasing the compatable solar panels
Answer: 9 3/4” long x 5 1/2” wide x 5 7/8” tall
Question: Will this power a space heater
Answer: It's easy. I always clean the drain rack in the dishwasher.
Question: Would this be too big or heavy to carry around in a backpack
Answer: Very easy. I like this sink caddy sponge holder very much. The long strip has a larger drain area, which let sponge dry quickly and reduce the growth of bacteria. Sink caddy can hold a lot of things, such as brushes, hand sanitizer, sponges, towels, etc.

User questions & answers

Question: Would this be sufficient enough to heat the inside of my car in the winter months
Answer: If you are asking about winter storage for your car to keep it from getting musty, that might work. Sort of like heat sticks for gun safes and pianos for the dampness. If your asking about living in your car, it wouldn't be warm enough for me.
Question: House for stray cats...does this heater need to be clear of all bedding? is there a chance of fire
Answer: I have mine in a cat house with towels and a cat bed around it. The towels touch it. It's uncomfortably hot to touch on high, but doesn't burn my hand so I felt it was safe. I've not had any issues with it so far.
Question: Do you have to worry about this being to close to the chickens? Do you have to mount it where they cant get to
Answer: The answer to both questions is No according to the instructions. I did place mine on a wall so the chickens don't poop on it. It sits just above their heads while roosting. It also heats objects. Also it will only heat to about 45 degrees which is the highest temp you want for chickens. If the chickens get too hot they move away from it. The panel is not hot but warm to the touch. I find it to be very safe easy to install. Haven't had -30 degree weather yet. It has been in the 20's here at night and I really do love the product. Safe for everyone.
Question: When will the built in thermastate turn on and shut off
Answer: I couldn’t find this information either so I emailed the company and asked. This is their reply “Thank you for your inquiry. The internal thermostat does not automatically shut the unit off or on; it only regulates the temperature of the unit to maintain 140F. The unit will ONLY shut off if it overheats to above 180F; this product must be manually turned on and off.”

User questions & answers

Question: Can you HANG this from something
Answer: YES you can hang this heater. It's been done. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AZsVX6mh8O4
Question: Does anybody have trouble lighting this heater? Seems I need to hold the ignition button in for a minute and it really hurts my thumb
Answer: Hey Spike, I agree with Thomas W. Mine wouldn't start on the first try either. You have to hold the ignition button down, wait a few seconds, then depress again. It's kind of a pain, but it works. A more annoying issue for me was wanting to use it in my golf cart, but with every tiny bump, the safety feature kicked in and off it went. So, it is safer for home use. For the cart, I bought the Coleman Catalytic Heater with the special holder that fits in the cup holders. It's more quiet too. Stay warm!
Question: With an adapter hose can it be used with a large propane cylinder
Answer: Not a problem. Make a 10"x10" box. Nail 2x6 together in the shape of a U. Then put 3/8" inch plywood on top and bottom (3/8" a must on top). Then make a 2 1/4" hole in the center of the top plywood. Next screw the main heater assembly into the filter with the top plywood in between (the two should come together snug leaving a very small separation which will allow the heater to rotate with no chance of a leak but still be secure). Then attach the hose and tank. This box allows for a large tank to be attached, the heater can rotate and the tipsy problem is gone.. Just remember to turn off the tank first to burn up the gas in the line before turning off the heater.
Question: Has anyone used it tent camping? I'm afraid of fire and fumes, but the cub scouts insist in camping in sub freezing temps
Answer: I used it last summer (2017), at night We went to bed late around 1:00 am, and usually by 5:00 am the 1lb tank is already empty and it's went the temp is the lowest, I spent about a tank per night, kept our 8 person tent warm, we have ventilation at the top and all the heat went up but I rather have ventilation that non at all, I'll probably wake up at 5 and replace the propane tank. We camped I bigbear, CA and it was cold at night, I might try an electric heater plugged into my Honda but still you have Carbon monoxide coming from the generator.
