In 1884, Master Cutler Karl Elsener opened a cutlery shop in Ibach, Switzerland. There, he and the cutlers’ union he formed produced the finest steel cutlery, finished with the now-famous proprietary edge preferred globally by professional and home cooks. In 1891, Karl supplied the Swiss Army with its standard issue Soldier’s Knife and in 1897 with the Officer’s Knife. In 1921, after the death of his mother, Victoria, and with the advent of stainless steel, then known as “inoxydable" and used in the production of his cutlery, Karl changed the name of the company to Victorinox. It is from those humble beginnings that a worldwide icon was born.

Care Tips for Swiss Army Knives

The various tools are manufactured from high-quality steel with precisely tuned features that are essential for the particular application. The steel is tempered, annealed and polished to achieve the necessary hardness and provide optimum resistance to corrosion.



Sharpening

To re-sharpen your knife, use a whetstone at an angle of 15°– 20°. This will result in a cutting angle of 30°– 40°. If sharpening on a grinding wheel, always cool with plenty of water to avoid excessive temperatures and the resulting damages that may occur.



Cleaning

After you’ve used your Swiss Army Knife for all of its various applications, such as cutting open numerous boxes, you may notice that the blades begin to stick together. Opening and closing the blades in warm water several times will allow the tools to easily move again. Once they have dried, it is recommended, to apply a small drop of oil between the blade or tool shank and the spring. To optimally maintain the locking mechanism, periodically apply a drop of our recommended Swiss Army Knife Oil. Never put Swiss Army Knives in the dishwasher.

Victorinox has owned the Wenger brand name for a long time and when they retired the Wenger Swiss Army Knife (SAK) brand, they carried some models over to the Victorinox brand. All Ranger series SAKs are Wenger designs that were carried over to the Victorinox brand (they are also still made in the same old Wenger plant in Delemont). And just for completeness, Wagner is a completely different company does not make knives. Their only relationship with Victorinox is that they use Victorinox Classic SAK knife tools in the heads of their SWISS PEN product line. :-)

Answer:	I used it on the Gitzo 3542LS and it worked fine

Answer:	I only have a lens hood for my 35mm lens but it does fit that one if I turn the hood the other way around and slide it onto the lens.

Answer:	Most likely no. To determine the fit, just measure the width and length of your lens and compare the pouches' dimensions as follows: 1) Small pouch: 3.14" x 4" (w x h); 2) Medium pouch: 4" x 5.5" (w x h); 3) Large pouch: 4" x 7.1" (w x h); and 4) Extra Large pouch: 4.3" x 8.7" (w x h). You may need to find something else for such a telephoto lens, which maybe long as 15 inches, more or less. The longest pouch length is only 8.7 inches.

Answer:	If my memory serves me right it was made in China.

Answer:	It’s ready to go. The legs fold out. They close by pulling the latch for each leg under the cushion. I had a knee replacement and this is a godsend for kneeling.

Answer:	I purchased mine in June 2019 and don’t know when the bench was upgraded. You may want to contact the manufacturer.

Answer:	As a stool? Possibly on a flat rock or on a flagstone type patio or porch. On a pile of rocks, like beside a creek or something, it would be no steadier than a folding chair. As a kneeler? It probably wouldn’t be very sturdy getting up off your knees, unless the bottom of each side were resting on hard ground between rocks.
