13 best kukris
Kukri knives are traditional Nepalese blades known for their distinctive shape and versatile use. These knives are closely associated with the Gurkha soldiers of Nepal, who have carried kukris as part of their standard issue equipment for centuries. Here are some key characteristics and information about kukri knives:
Blade Design: Kukris are easily recognizable by their unique blade design, which features a curved edge that tapers to a pointed tip. The inwardly curved edge is known as the "belly," while the opposite side has a straighter edge.
Versatility: Kukris are incredibly versatile tools. They can be used for various purposes, including chopping, slicing, cutting, and even as a weapon. The curved shape of the blade makes it particularly effective for chopping and slashing.
Traditional Construction: Traditional kukris are often handcrafted by skilled artisans in Nepal. They typically feature a high-carbon steel blade and a wooden handle. The tang of the blade extends through the handle, providing strength and balance.
Fuller: Many kukri blades have a distinctive groove called a "fuller" along the flat side of the blade. This feature helps reduce the overall weight of the knife without sacrificing strength.
Sheath: Kukris typically come with a wooden or leather sheath designed to protect the blade and allow for safe and easy carrying. Some sheaths also have additional pockets for small utility knives or sharpening tools.
Cultural Significance: Kukris hold cultural and religious significance in Nepal. They are often used in various rituals and ceremonies, and they are considered a symbol of honor and bravery.
Modern Usage: While kukris have a rich history in the military and as utility tools, they are also popular among outdoor enthusiasts, hikers, and survivalists due to their versatility and durability. They are used for tasks like bushcraft, camping, and hunting.
Maintenance: Proper maintenance is essential to keep a kukri in good condition. Regular sharpening and oiling of the blade are necessary to prevent rust and maintain its cutting edge.
Variations: There are various types and sizes of kukris available, ranging from small utility knives to larger, more ornate ceremonial versions. Some kukris have intricately designed handles and sheaths.
Collectibility: Kukris are often collected as historical and cultural artifacts. Antique kukris, especially those with unique features or historical significance, can be highly sought after by collectors.
In summary, kukri knives are iconic blades with a rich history, known for their distinctive shape and versatility in various outdoor and utility tasks. They are deeply intertwined with Nepalese culture and have gained popularity worldwide as practical tools and collectibles.

User questions & answers
Question: | Does the loose-fitting sheath cause dulling of the edge since it rattles |
Answer: | No, but you can remove the little screen you see pictured on top. |
Question: | How thick |
Answer: | It is 31 inches tall |
Question: | where is this made |
Answer: | Just a barrel and a nozzle. |
Question: | Is it worth the money? A YouTuber that reviews blades reviewed this machete and by the end it had a big crack |
Answer: | You don't want a rain barrel made of wood. The wood is good as long as it ALWAYS has water in it (full - like a whiskey barrel), but when it is full then empty the wood shrinks back up and leaks. Plastic that looks like wood is better for water. If you want real wood for something other than liquid, then wood would be great. |

Applied as a fine powder or cured under heat, powder coating offers blade protection, non-glare, low reflectivity and striking looks. Blade can be coated in a variety of colors using a powder coat and is intended for light use, or collectable knives.
Durable Handle
A rubber overmold is a textured rubber layer on the handle scale that provides extra grip, usually molded over a solid polymer handle. User questions & answers
Question: | I purchased this khukri and i am in india. apart from payment to amazon, i have been charged rs.1200 extra as duty from dhl? why it is not included |
Answer: | Sorry not sure about that. |
Question: | Not good making a sheath. any one know of aftermarket sheath for both kukri and the 2 knives? tia |
Answer: | I agree with you about the sheath. Unfortunately I do not know of any out there that will have the pockets for the two smaller blades. |
Question: | How thick is the blade |
Answer: | The back bone not the edge measures 7mm at the area were the handle is and measures 4mm at the point of the blade. This is a well hand crafted and sturdy kukri. |
Question: | Ok guys how good is the steel? Does it hold an edge? is the sheath sturdy? As many details as possible is always appreciated |
Answer: | It holds a great edge. I actually chopped all the way through some sizeable tree limbs and the edge barely dulled. Not surprising since its high carbon spring steel. The sheath is.. okay. You might want a new one made if youre actually planning on using this, because it looks really nice and keeps the blade protected while stored but it sucks for actually carrying the blade around and holding it while doing so. This knife weighs a good 2.5-3 pounds, so you want a good sheath to carry it. Its thick, strong and will suit you well if youre in need of a survival knife/machete/hatchet |

GK&CO. Kukri House Brand name. This is the replica version of the kukri carried by Gurkhas in hand-to-hand combat in the Jungle of Burma during the 2nd World War. It is Historic Kukri. User questions & answers
Question: | Is this full tang |
Answer: | It's the dimension other than length and width. I can't believe you don't know what thickness is. |
Question: | The heading says this is a 12" blade, but the description says 8 inches. So which is the accurate length of the blade for this product |
Answer: | Assuming you have great cardio fitness and them being within continuous reach for the full hour (so as not to have to reposition yourself); I'd say approximately 1,800 zombies. The key to this is excellent cardio, good accuracy and starting off with a razor sharp edge to your blade. |
Question: | So where is this made |
Answer: | Its a full tang. I own one and my son owns one.. They are awesome! My son carried his in the field in the Army and beat it to death. You wont break it, he dug holes pounded tent stakes and chopped with it for a year and its still in good shape. I wouldnt worry about being made in Taiwan. Taiwanese quality is great.. They make wonderful knives there. |
Question: | Trained with Gurkha and their knives all had script etched on the upper spine by the tang. I don’t believe this is a true authentic |
Answer: | It can be thrown in the same manner that one would throw a child. So no it shouldn't be thrown and you should definitely not throw a child. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Why doesn’t this tool have a m shaped knotch near the bottom of the blade |
Answer: | Yes its full tang. The pin at the back on the pommel I have heard can sometimes come off with this style of knife when hammering though. I'm a bit partial to the ktact kukri if you want a kukri you can use for pommel hammering though its pricier. |
Question: | How is the handle, other knifes are wider at the base to help with grip. Is the grip firm |
Answer: | I gave this to my son as a present, so it's not here in front of me to measure. But as I remember, the length of the entire knife is 12", but the blade is only 8". Which, if you really sit down and think about it . . . makes sense. But most people don't sit down and think to often. |
Question: | Where do the smaller knives fit in the sheath |
Answer: | Khukri house in Nepal |
Question: | Does it hold up in heavy use such as cutting Oak branches three quarter of an inch thick |
Answer: | The knife I received had "GKH" on one side and "Nepal" on the other side of the blade just pointward of the hilt. There was no other script on the knife. Your "question" raises interesting issues, however. What is an authentic Gurkha kukri? One made by Gurkha smiths? One issued and carried by Gurkha troops? And was the script inscribed by the original bladesmiths or added later by individual soldiers? My take is that what I received is just like the knives carried by Gurkha troops in WW II and I enjoy it as such. |

Question: | What is the country of origin of this knife |
Answer: | Yes, it can hold up in heavy use such as cutting Oak branches three quarter of an inch thick. Just get it sharpen it first before using it. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How many ounces does it weigh |
Answer: | It can chop branches because it is very sharp and has a straight handle full Tang style design which is relatively strong |
Question: | what is the blade thickness along spine |
Answer: | Produced in Yangjiang, the hometown of Chinese knives and scissors |
Question: | Areall of you sure it was american made? I bought mine from amazon and it has made in china on it |
Answer: | The traditional Kukri's have the notch because they have a religious meaning of faith. Modern Kukris for trade, do not feature this notch, and full tang kukris such at this one are build for strength, and so the blade is not notched to avoid a place where cracks could start. This modern blade will NEVER crack. Modern metallurgy, and blade thickness, pretty much make blade failure impossible. I use mine as a short machete, and it shows no signs wear. Like all heavy service knives, it is still not a pry bar. use it appropriately. |
Question: | Is the Combat Kukri lighter than the 1249 Kukri |
Answer: | I personally found the handle a little slick. A layer of athletic tape over the base and it no longer feels like it's going to fly out of my hand. |

Question: | Where is it made |
Answer: | Chris,The combat kukri is 3 inches shorter than the 1249. It is lighter. If you are using it for a self defense weapon it is a great knife. I have both but for use in the woods the 1249 is by far better than the combat |
