14 best crossbows
Crossbows are a type of ranged weapon that has been used for hunting, sport, and warfare for centuries. They are closely related to traditional bows and archery, but they have distinct characteristics and advantages. Here's what you should know about crossbows:
Design: A crossbow consists of a horizontal bow (called the prod or lath) mounted on a stock, which is similar in appearance to a firearm. It is designed to be held and aimed like a rifle.
Draw Mechanism: Crossbows use a mechanical drawing mechanism, such as a lever or crank, to cock and load the bowstring. This makes them easier to draw compared to traditional bows, which require physical strength to pull the string back.
Projectiles: Crossbows shoot bolts or quarrels, which are shorter and heavier than arrows used in traditional bows. These bolts are typically equipped with broadheads for hunting or target points for sport shooting.
Accuracy: Crossbows are known for their accuracy and precision. The design and mechanics allow for consistent shooting, making them popular for both hunting and competitive shooting.
Power and Range: Crossbows can generate significant kinetic energy, providing good range and stopping power for hunting various game animals.
Safety: Many modern crossbows feature safety mechanisms to prevent accidental discharges. These mechanisms often include safeties and anti-dry fire systems.
Types: There are several types of crossbows, including compound crossbows, recurve crossbows, and reverse-draw crossbows. Each has its own advantages and characteristics.
Hunting: Crossbows are commonly used for hunting, particularly in areas where traditional archery equipment may not be allowed. They are popular for hunting deer, elk, and other game animals.
Sport Shooting: Crossbow shooting has become a popular sport, with competitions and events held worldwide. Competitive crossbow shooting often includes target shooting at various distances.
Legal Considerations: The legality of crossbow use for hunting varies by region and game species. It's essential for hunters to familiarize themselves with local regulations before using a crossbow.
Maintenance: Like any weapon, crossbows require regular maintenance to ensure they function correctly and safely. This includes string maintenance, lubrication, and periodic inspections.
Accessories: Crossbows can be customized with various accessories, such as scopes, quivers, and sound-dampening devices, to enhance their performance and functionality.
Crossbows have a long history and continue to be valuable tools for hunting and sport shooting. Their ease of use, accuracy, and power make them appealing to a wide range of enthusiasts and hunters. However, it's essential to follow safety guidelines and local regulations when using crossbows for any purpose.

User questions & answers
Question: | has speed been vertified by outside source |
Answer: | Yes it has. However it is so tuff to duplicate that speed because of weight of nock, field tip and vane size. So many people have tried and I believe only one or two bow sellers were successful. Most have clocked it around 405 and have posted the video of the speed test on YouTube. I’m super impressed with my Ripper415 and glad I bought it. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen a video of it clocked at 415. Hope this helps. |

This 80 lb draw weight crossbow uses an easy and safe-to-use cocking mechanism. Manufactured with a strong plastic body and compressed molded fiberglass bow, this crossbow pistol is very durable and perfect for both small game hunting and target practice. Each crossbow includes 15 aluminum arrows with metal tips and adjustable tactical sight. With a firing speed of 165 fps, the 80 lb cross bow is great for hunting small game. The new self-cocking mechanism much more safe and far less strenuous to use. By simply pulling down on a pivoting arm lever, this crossbow's cable is cocked much more easily, even engaging the safety automatically. The speediness of the new cocking mechanism shortens reload time, allowing you to get off more shots quickly. Like all hunting weapons and gear, proper maintenance is essential in prolonging the life of your crossbow. With each use, elements of the crossbow can begin to wear. This package includes extra 80lb string, and an extra set of 15 aluminum arrows. These extra pieces will allow you more time to enjoy your crossbow without worrying about wear-and-tear or your bow's performance. We also recommend applying rail lube often to your crossbow's rail slide and wax to your string to decrease the friction that can hurt your string. It's also recommended to check the tightness of your crossbow's screws often as vibration can loosen them overtime.

User questions & answers
Question: | Does it come with instructions to put together and how to handle/manage it |
Answer: | There is a youtube video that helps A LOT when putting it together. The instructions that come with it are not to clear on where to put a couple of small pieces, but the video showed it very well |
Question: | Can I use scope on it |
Answer: | You can it has a weaver style mount .I would suggest a reaction red dot instead as the distance you can shoot it really isnt long enough for a scope. I shoot about 15 yards with the sight it comes with and hit the center 99% of the time. |
Question: | Could you leave it cocked and loaded for an extended period of time, say, in your car or house as a ready defensive weapon |
Answer: | Technically, yes. It is better to use a BB gun instead - it's easier to conceal, it less likely to fire unintentionally, and can be fired repeatedly rather than one-and-done. If you are going to use this as your defensive weapon, it is better to cock it but not load bolt/arrow into it and keep the safety engaged - if it fires then, no harm can really result. Most importantly, check your local laws and regulations.Self-defense note: if your attacker is trying to attack you with a concealed knife, the best thing you can do is wear riveted chain mail (it actually isn't horribly heavy) - if someone wants to stab you, they aren't going to tell you "I'm going to stab you," casually wait for you to get to your car and shoot them. If your attacker is a road-raged person, you are in control o a multi-ton projectile called a car and they are outside. Keep windows closed and they can do approximately nothing. If your attacker has a ranged weapon, you don't have long to live (i quote multiple sources, "action is always faster than reaction"). |
Question: | Can children at age 12 use this weapon also does it break easily |
Answer: | You used the word "weapon" so you know it's not a Nerf type toy. As for letting a 12 year old use it, that depends entirely on the 12 year old and your parenting of him/her. If your kid is the type who would shoot the neighbors cat "just to see what it will do" then you shouldn't be giving your kid any kind of weapon at all. If you're the type of parent who would look the other way when the neighbor's cat got a crossbow bolt shot through it then you shouldn't be considering anything but Nerf guns. This weapon is about in a class with Wrist Rocket slingshots, which are also not toys. I do not consider BB guns toys if they have enough power to shoot out an eye. If you would trust your kid to safely handle a .22 rifle, a Wrist Rocket slingshot or a powerful pneumatic pellet rifle then you should be able to trust the kid to handle this correctly also. If not then don't give your kid this or any of those other weapons either. As crossbows go, this is a very tame one but that doesn't mean it's safe to use unwisely or by a careless person. A real hunting crossbow has a lot more force than this pistol type bow does. Users of "real" crossbows might call this a toy but it's not. I hunt with a serious crossbow and I would never consider something that does what this "little brother" does to be a toy. It's a weapon, it's just a light weapon but a weapon none-the-less. This little crossbow can kill or inflict grievous bodily injury. It has sufficient power to end or ruin someone's life so it's not something you should be deciding on by relying on answers to a question on Amazon. So the answer to your question is arbitrary and conditional. That is why you see some people answering your question "absolutely not" and some saying "yes, go ahead". Asking a question on Amazon is no substitute for exercising good judgement regarding your own progeny. |
