I tried several and it was explained to me something about how the newer cars have metal in the steering area...or something like that...and it interferes with a compass and it will not work because of that. So I had to give up.

Answer:	I took this compass on a 70ft scuba dive in salt water. This compass was still pretty accurate at that depth. I notice the ball had come slightly dislodged but its all still intact. Just gotta make sure to rinse in fresh water

Answer:	It may be hard to find a place on the dash the doesn't have significant magnetic interference from the speaker magnets... I had to place it several times and see where the magnetic fields balance so it points correctly.... sort of like witchcraft but it found a spot.

I believe the markers are luminous paint. There is luminosity only in the four cardinal directions on the interior of the compass, while the degree markings around the outer circumference are plain white paint. In order to be fully functional for luminous use, the compass would need luminous markers on the cardinal points and also on the degree markers. This would make such a compass very expensive indeed. There may be a small amount of tritium dust embedded in the paint but these are not solid tritium markers such as you would find on high grade rifle sights. The markers glow very faintly but you can enhance the glow by shining a bright light onto the markers for several seconds. If the compass fits your watchband, it will be functional but don't expect military grade performance. In pitch dark, you will need to acquire a ray of light from somewhere in order to use this compass. Moonlight should be sufficient to allow use of the compass but not sufficient to charge the luminous markers.
