Answer: | Tea tree oil does have powerful antifungal and antibacterial properties, and when mixed with a carrier oil (coconut oil, for example) is great for athlete's foot, nail fungus and other fungal problems. You can find plenty of DIY recipes online. HOWEVER, and this is critical, 1) Use pumice or a foot file to rub off the dry flaky skin where the fungus likes to hide out. Cut your nails very short. Wash and disinfect your feet thoroughly and dry them off. 2) Then apply tea tree oil between your toes, rub into and around your nails, and all over the bottoms of your feet and itchy areas. If tea tree oil irritates your skin, mix it 50/50 with coconut oil. Rub it in thoroughly and let it air dry. If you have a fungal infection in more sensitive places, never use pure tea tree oil.3) keep your feet dry, and do not spread the fungus. Wear flip-flops or plain cotton footies at home, and disinfect them regularly. Do not walk barefoot at home.
