If you keep your aluminum boat in salt or brackish waters, it needs an antifouling paint to keep barnacles, weeds & other marine fouling organisms from clinging to the bottom. But, applying copper-based biocide directly to an aluminum hull or pontoons causes a severe chemical reaction called galvanic corrosion, where the aluminum disintegrates into a white powdery substance, aluminum oxide powder. You won't get barnacles, but you'll destroy the bottom of your boat. TotalBoat AlumiPaint AF contains a different kind of antifouling agent. It's a potent, copper-free organic biocide that repels hard marine fouling, such as barnacles & zebra mussels. Clean the aluminum surface.

If you're painting bare aluminum, you need to use the right primer and follow the right process, or no paint will stick. For best results, we recommended the following process:

1. Clean the surface to remove loose dirt.
2. Sand with 220-grit sandpaper or an abrasive pad, or blast to bright, shiny metal.
3. Remove residue.

Apply an aluminum-safe barrier coat within 1 hour of sanding prep.

Bare aluminum and other metals will begin oxidizing immediately after sanding prep, so the barrier coat must be applied within 1 hour after sanding/blasting.

1. Apply 2-3 coats of TotalBoat Aluminum Boat Barrier Coat, waiting 2 -6 hours, depending on temperature.
2. To prime properly prepared steel and iron surfaces, use TotalBoat TotalProtect Epoxy Barrier Coat Primer, as directed.

Apply TotalBoat AlumiPaint AF over barrier coat.

For proper adhesion, it's important to apply the first coat of AlumiPaint AF within 3-6 hours of applying the final coat of TotalBoat Aluminum Boat Barrier Coat.

1. Shake or stir AlumiPaint AF thoroughly.
2. Apply by brush, roller, or spray gun. We recommend a 3/16" nap or foam solvent-safe roller cover.
3. Apply 1-2 coats, waiting 1-4 hours between coats. Two coats are recommended for application over bare substrates, around the waterline, and any areas with increased wear.
4. Allow paint to dry 2-8 hours (depending on temperature) before launching the boat.

Question:	Can i apply this paint in the cold? i live in wisconsin and have a project to complete before the spring. (if i allow the paint to cure for 72 hrs
Answer:	Yes by all means use etching watsh first then paint it that same day.
Question:	How dark is the army green or how tan is khaki
Answer:	I personally sprayed it using a siphon feed latex gun and am extremely pleased with the results. It can also be brushed or rolled on. I HIGHLY recommend taking the time to scuf the aluminum with 50-100 grit sandpaper using any tools you may have or by hand. The primer will adhere to the metal much easier and will last much longer.
Question:	Will this work well on an exterior aluminum railing? Would using the etch wash first help make the finish adhere better
Answer:	This scratch remover does not state what type of paint but my view is it is universal. It will probably produce better results on light paint like silver or white
Question:	How do I apply the paint on a 15 foot aluminum boat
Answer:	I believe it is made to work with a clear coat top layer, and not break thru the paint layer where the primer would be exposed.
