User questions & answers
Question: | Does the backboard break after continuous use |
Answer: | Yes, mine broke after 4 months. The backboard actually split in half. |
Question: | Can this be directly mounted to the wall |
Answer: | Took a little work but I backed out the rivets and mounted it to the well without issues. |
Question: | How is it fixed to the door? What tools are required? Any holes to drill? I live in a rented apartment |
Answer: | The tools you need are included. The directions are very simple. You do not attach anything to the door or drill the door. The goal hangs over the top of the door after you attach the hardware to the hoop. |
Question: | Does it hold up well to dunking |
Answer: | Got this for a Christmas gift for our son. He played on it for at least 30 minutes each weekday and 2-3 hours each Friday-Sunday. He dunked constantly and it held up VERY well for the first 6 weeks. BUT, he performed an average dunk tonight and the back board broke in half, and as the half with the hoop attached to it, fell to the ground, it cut his hand slightly. Before tonight I would have given this product 5-stars. I plan to contact the manufacturer to find out more. If I find out anything, I'll report back here again. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Pole only went in the ground 10 inches. I know it says 14-16 inches. That’s how the concrete cures. Will this create an issue |
Answer: | The extra 4-6 inches would help but ten inches should be good. As long as you also fill the center with concrete to make it sturdy |
Question: | If I toss the sleeve, given all the concerns it may cause, how deep does pole go in concrete |
Answer: | I would go just a couple of inches deeper than the sleeve is long. Any deeper and you run the risk of not having the rim go all the way to 10 feet high. Putting it in the sleeve gives the whole thing more play when you're shooting which is not a good thing. They really should make the bottom post longer so you can sink it deeper for better stability. Good luck. |
Question: | How far below ground level should the bottom half of the pole be sunk |
Answer: | The ground sleeve is 16" in length, 14" of it will be in the concrete. Thus, 14" of the pole. |
Question: | What is the actual material and thickness of the backboard? I've seen |
Answer: | The glass itself is about 1/4 of an in, and the framing, metal included is about an inch or a little more than an inch thick. Hope this helps you. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can I mount this directly to a wooden telephone pole? (It's solely for a basketball hoop-no lines to it). If one can mount this to a flat wall, can I also just screw it to a large wooden pole? Standard 3.5" pole clamp mounts are too small |
Answer: | no, you cannot mount this to a telephone pole. Unless, you make alterations to the telephone pole or the lift system. |
Question: | What is the width and height of this bracket as it would attach to a garage wall? Thanks |
Answer: | The mounting bracket is 6 7/8" wide, 18 3/4" tall. |
Question: | what is the horizontal distance between the board and the post (how far out will it extend assuming I will raise it up high |
Answer: | the horizontal distance is about 28" at the highest and lowest jack setting.. |
Question: | How high should I mount it so that the max height is 10 feet |
Answer: | The distance between the bottom of the mounting bracket and the rim at max extension is 32.5". If you want the hoop at 10' at max extension, you'll want the bottom of the bracket to be 7'3.5" off the level surface (ground). I'd recommend mounting it slightly higher so your top height can be slightly over 10" in case you're a little off. Better to have it slightly too high and then adjust it down slightly to make it 10'. Also don't mount the height sticker on the adjuster until after you've set the height and can confirm it's correct. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does the anchor kit come with rebar |
Answer: | No. It comes with rods, threaded on one end and with a hook on the other to anchor the base in the concrete. |
Question: | What are the measurements of the base? How far apart are the bolts |
Answer: | The J-Bolt plate is 9X9 but the bolt pattern for the plate is 7X7. |
Question: | How deep of a hole do you have to dig |
Answer: | We dug down 3 feet. We love the system. Very, very solid and it looks like it belongs at a home and not in a playground. |
Question: | Can this system be installed in an indoor court?, we have a huge warehouse in a community center |
Answer: | I don't see why not - but you will need to dig down through the concrete foundation of the warehouse, which can be done if you rent the right tools. I can imagine it will take a lot of strength and patience. Just be sure to look up how far down the hole should go and how much concrete to put in. We overdid it a bit - going down about 4 feet - I think only 2-3 is required - just do a little research. Consider how far down the concrete slab of your warehouse goes - if you're digging through concrete with a rented digger it will take a long time and will require hiring someone to do it or taking turns with some strong men with strong backs! |

Amazon.com Basketball System Buying Guide
With the high-quality construction of many portable basketball systems, turning your driveway into a basketball court can be as simple as hooking up your garden hose. But while a portable system may ultimately be your best choice, there are reasons you may want to consider an in-ground or wall-mount system before you decide.
In-Ground Systems
In-ground systems are permanently cemented into the ground--either via a bolt mounting kit or directly into the ground--and are generally more rigid and take up less space than portables. In-ground systems often require that you hire a professional to complete the task, but when the cement dries you'll have a hoop that can take punishing dunks with ease.
Many in-ground systems are height-adjustable, include removable post features that let you take the system down for off-season storage, and feature heavy-duty break-away rims. You'll also want to research the adjustable mechanisms on the systems, as there are several types to choose from. Some feature a counter-balance spring that lets you perform easy, one-hand adjustments while others may feature a sturdy, pneumatic system.
Wall-Mount Systems
Wall-mount systems can be mounted to the side of a house, a tall retaining wall, or a garage. Generally sturdier than portables, wall-mounts have the added advantage of optimizing your existing ground space for the court, since you won't take any space up with the base or pole. Not all systems include the necessary hardware, so make certain you add a mounting kit to your list.
Portable Systems
Portable systems require minimal installation and offer ultimate convenience. These systems generally feature a base that can be filled with sand or water to stabilize them and include wheels for portability. Although they are not as sturdy as in-ground or wall-mounted hoops, portables are simple to set up and can often be folded for convenient storage.
Backboard Considerations
Regardless of which system you choose, you'll want to brush up on Backboards 101. Most residential systems feature backboards made of acrylic, fiberglass, graphite, or various other composite materials. While clear acrylic gives the professional look and feel of glass, it is not as rigid as fiberglass or graphite. Some systems may offer steel or aluminum backboards, which are virtually vandal resistant, but don't offer the true rebounding action.
The regulation size of an NBA backboard is 72 inches wide and 42 inches high. Most portable hoops are 42 or 44 inches wide and 36 inches tall. In-ground systems tend to be a bit larger, with 54-inch and 60-inch widths being the most popular. While rectangular shaped backboards provide more bank shot opportunities, they are generally more expensive than the streamlined fan-shaped board.

User questions & answers
Question: | Is it possible to install the hoop without the middle poll, essentially connecting pole 1 to pole 3? I want to install in ground pool side |
Answer: | That is where mine is. I installed it about 24" back from the above ground pool. I kept all three poles because it is above ground. |
Question: | Does it come with the rim and net |
Answer: | Yes it does, but... be cautious. I only had ours up a month and the backboard broke out! Was not happy with this purchase at all. |
Question: | How far off the pole does the backboard protrude |
Answer: | It depends on what height u have the goal set. On it's lowest setting, it's probably 4", but at it's maximum height, I'd say it's closer to 8" |
Question: | How deep should the hole be dug |
Answer: | deep to have the height of the basket to be 10ft high for regulation basketball |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can you hang it in wall? Is hanging kit included |
Answer: | Yes, you can hang it on a wall, but a wall mounting kit is not included. We have three separate mounting kits that are available. 8406SR is a standard mount that doesn't lift, and 8839SR is a mount that uses a ratchet lift to raise the system in 6" intervals from 7.5' to 10'. Lastly, is the 316 mount, which is an infinite adjust, and raises it from 7.5' to 10'. |
Question: | Is the backboard water proof or water resistant? I want install it outdoor when wet with the rain |
Answer: | The Huffy Backboard is water resistant. We live in Arizona where it is extremely hot, yet the color on the backboard has not changed. This one is much better compared to the expensive one that we were given when we built our swimming pool. |
Question: | What is the diameter of the hoop |
Answer: | It is standard NBA size. I believed that once I purchased this set that I would be well on my way to the pros. It has yet to happen but I’m still chasing my dreams. I’m shooting about 60% from the free throw line. If I can raise that to 75% and start grabbing the rim I’m going to try out for the Pacers. |
Question: | What is the spacing of the mounting holes |
Answer: | I couldn't tell you the exact spacing, but there was a mounting bracket in place before we bought the backboard, and the new backboard was easily mounted to the old bracket. I am eighty years old and it is cold outside. I am not going out today and measure. |

User questions & answers
Question: | I need a replacement part for the base and can't get one |
Answer: | Please call Spalding at 1-800-558-5234. They will get this taken care of for you. |
Question: | What is the size of the base LxW |
Answer: | I just measured it. It is about 54" long x about 32" wide(just the base unit), when fully assembled. |
Question: | How do i get parts |
Answer: | There is an instruction manual that has the contact info in the first few pages. Call that # and someone will send you the parts needed |
Question: | How easy to move, is it easily portable |
Answer: | It is easy enough, if there are 2 people. I only have to move mine about 20 feet from the side of the house to the driveway. It can be a pain for one old guy, but, no problem for 1 old guy + 1 teenager. Also, the tank where the water goes wears out easily at the bottom, allowing the water to run out. You will need something like weights or sandbags to provide a good counterweight. |
Product description
The Spalding 80602R has a 44" Eco-Composite fan shaped backboard with the NBA brand logo. It includes a standard rim and a standard white net.
Designed to mount to a square pole or wall, this Spalding backboard and rim combo will turn your backyard or driveway into a jump-shooting haven. The combo starts with a 44-inch eco-composite backboard, which uses 40 percent less plastic than traditional units. It increases the rigidity for better rebounding. The solid steel rim, meanwhile, is durable and stable, encouraging a consistent bounce with each shot. The backboard/rim combo--which includes an all-weather net--does not come with mounting hardware.
