User questions & answers

Question: is the angle adjustable and fixable at a location? (downward and so on
Answer: Yes easy adjust, need a Phillips screw driver.
Question: Will it fit right on a Giro Savent Helmet
Answer: Yes, it fits any helmet with air vents. It is adjusted with hook loop fastener.
Question: Is the brightness only 2 Lumens? That seems a bit low
Answer: I'm not sure about the lumens, but the lights are bright and have 3 settings. Solid, blinking slow and blinking fast. They are great on our bikes for night time bike riding
Question: IS this appropriate for a child's bike helmet (fit helmet and not too heavy
Answer: I don't think that this is too heavy for a child's helmet. Make certain that the helmet fits snuggly on the child's head and that the chin straps are not loosely fitted. That way the helmet will not move about with or without the light. There are smaller blinky type lights out there for the helmet. But, I think this is the best one as it self balances and is reliable. I've dropped my helmet many times and no damage has occurred to the light. This is a great idea for a child, this puts the light up as high as possible. You might want to check out reflective backpacks, dontgethit.com has a very nice one. If the helmet is fitted appropriately to the child's head you should have no problem with this light, it is not heavy and might only cause the helmet to slip backwards if the helmet is not properly fitted on the child.

About Planet Bike

In November of 1996, Planet Bike was founded in Madison, Wisconsin. In many ways, Planet Bike began as a social experiment that dedicated itself to doing business in a different way. Instead of being just another company that develops and sells products with profit as its end goal, Planet Bike wanted to help bring about positive change for people, their communities, and the environment.

Despite being a simple machine, the people at Planet Bike have always believed that the bicycle has great potential to help improve the world and the lives of the people in it. From the start, they have embraced an alternative corporate purpose which seeks to help get more people on bicycles by making communities friendlier places for the self-propelled. By donating 25% of company profits to causes that promote and facilitate bicycle usage, Planet Bike hopes to make an impact.

Social experiments aside, Planet Bike was born from the heart of a cyclist with a goal of making innovative, high quality, and practical bicycle accessories. Simply put, they strive to design and develop the best bicycle products in the world. In the company's short ten year history, they have made important product innovations within the bicycle industry. Advancements include the 4-line computer which is now a standard in the industry and the world's first self-contained HID light. Not bad for a company that ten years ago started as a one man operation. Today, while still a small company, Planet Bike continues to evolve and improve their product line with the goal of always striving to build accessories that make it easier for people to ride their bikes. Since 1996, Planet Bike's financial support of the grassroots bicycle movement has totaled $500,000. By 2010, they have made a goal to donate $1 million to organizations that are dedicated to making America a friendlier place for cyclists.

User questions & answers

Question: If you also have the Beamer 5, which do you prefer? Also, can one get a separate mounting bracket to share the light easily between 2 bikes
Answer: I've owned both the Beamer 5 and Beamer 3 (same mounting bracket). The Beamer 5 is much better for navigating, while the Beamer 3 is best used primarily, only to be seen.
Question: Is this one waterproof
Answer: I can't say that it's waterproof, you'd have to rely on the manufacturer to answer that. But, I have ridden in the rain several times with no issues.
Question: Is the mount for beamer 1 and 3 the same
Answer: I don't know. The mount for the one I purchased was too big for my handlebars and I never mounted it.
Question: How many lumens or watts is this unit
Answer: From Planet Bike website, this is 21 lumens. http://ecom1.planetbike.com/3029.html

  • WATER RESISTANT: Rugged outer shell provides water resistance

User questions & answers

Question: What are the measurements of this light
Answer: The light is two and a half inches wide, one and three quarters high, and has a depth of one inch. It is small, but very bright. If you purchase one you might be mystified as to how to install the batteries. At each end you will see a slight indentation where you can use a coin as leverage. Give the coin a bit of a twist and Presto! The lens is off. Install batteries. The lens then snaps back on. Hope this helps.
Question: Is this bright enough for Burning Man
Answer: I think so. It's a fairly focused beam visible from a good distance, particularly in blink mode.
Question: How fast is the blink mode? My bike has one that blinks so fast I fear it will induce seizures in nearby epileptic motorists
Answer: Well, short of measuring the time, there is no way to know what the rate is. And then you would need to know the rate that induces seizures. Otherwise you are just guessing. This one has what I judge to be an appropriate blink rate. That is just my opinion though.
Question: how do you open it to place the battery in it
Answer: There are grooves on the side of the blinky. Grab a quarter, stick in the groove and turn the quarter. It should allow it to snap open. Place the battery and snap back into place.

User questions & answers

Question: I have one of these that I bought a few years ago, but the case is black and the lens is red/clear. Is this the same light
Answer: As far as I know you have the 1/2 watt light. If so, it has a concave on/off switch that has know issues. The newer model is a 1 watt light. It has a red push button switch that is raised from the flat surface and is a lot easier to push.
Question: Are the bottom two leds clear? Would this be an ok head light in terms of being visible to others
Answer: All lights are red. Don't use as a head light. Drivers will think you are going away rather your actually approaching. Get a clear white light for a head light.
Question: Will the clip on this work for attaching to the back of an under-seat mounted bag
Answer: If the seat has a loop to clip on a light, then it will work.
Question: does this come with a mount for a seat post
Answer: Best I remember there are two mounts. One small one that'll fit the seat stay, and one that will fit the most common size round seat post. Just one mount, but two different size rings. It also comes with the rubber strips to make a small post larger and snugly hold the ring.

User questions & answers

Question: I don't have a water bottle cage. It says it can go on a seat post - does it come with the hardware for this
Answer: I installed the Bottle Blinky behind my bottle cage in the pre-drilled holes of the down tube. It works well. I am certain you could find a way to mount it to your seat post. However, I would recommend something other than the Bottle Blinky for a seat post. Planet Bike offers several flashing lights specifically for the seat post. Yes, I am restating the obvious, but my response indicates how supportive I am of the Planet Bike lights. They make products.

Question: Charging... how does the recharge work? does this come apart? where is the usb port
Answer: The charger port is on the side of the light. It's got a waterproof cap. Open the cap plug in any USB charger. The light will be blue and will turn off when fully charged. If you are considering buying this light, I can recommend it. I have used both the USB and the replaceable battery on. Theses are the best lights on the market bar none. Good luck 👍

  • ELECTRIC BIKE READY: Great light to add to your electric bike for additional night time awareness

User questions & answers

Question: Is this light weatherproof
Answer: It is NOT Waterproof. Eventually water will get inside the casing if you ride in the rain. Mine stopped working and I thought it was ruined but days later it came back working fine. I purchased a second light thinking the earlier one was dead so I have two working lights. When I ride in the rain I make sure to simply cover the light with a small clear sandwich plastic bag and seal the bag with a rubber band. Cars will still be able to see you with the bag over the light. Don't believe any write-up about any bike item claiming to be Water proof. Water gets inside everything, eventually.
Question: Does this light clip to the loop on my bike bag
Answer: I t does but it can be a little loose... I used one of the rubber strips that come with the unit for mounting and rolled it up and wedged it under the bag loop to keep it tighter
Question: As per the revies the common problem is, the light falling off. Has this been rectified or is it the same fit or then what is the solution
Answer: There are two problems with this light "falling off." The first is, it separates where it opens to replace the batteries. If it does that, the light falls off and you are left with the empty shell on your bike. The second issue is the tab where the light back slides into the clip that mounts on the bike. I have had it fall off onto the road. I heard it go, and stopped to pick it up and it doesn't seem any the worse for wear. The retention clip has only a small bump that fits into a dimple in the tab to lock it in place.Incidentally, if they would only put four dimples in the square tab, you could mount it in any orientation. As it is, it only locks one way.
Question: Looking for a tail light I can mount to a bracket for my rear rack on my bike? Does this come with a mount, or just have to zip-tie it
Answer: Plant Bike is good when it comes to supplying all the mounting brackets and stuff to mount your seat post at any angle, except when it comes to putting it on the back of your rear bike rack. They sell a separate mounting kit for this (approx $7 and worth getting). Using a zip tie will not work the best. Putting it on your rear back rack allows you to also use another cheaper blinker light on the seat post. Together both lights gives you the best visibility ever (you will be seen for blocks!). You can just get by with the Planet Bike One Watt as it is SUPER bright, but having the extra seat post blinker gives you the best visibilty compared to most others on the road. BTW, set your Planet Bike One Watt on Z-Pop mode, otherwise your batteries will drain too quickly. I also recommend using sanyo enelope rechargabe betteries and getting the BC700 battery charger. Yes the charger is pricey and the batteries are approx $15 for 4 AAA but worth the investment. The charger and batteries and charger will outlast your bike light for years. Your light is only as strong as the fully charged battery behind it. These new rechargeiables along with the BC700 charger allows you to charge at 200 mph which will causes no damage and no memory issues therefore allowing you to refresh your batteries as much as is necessary to keep your One Watt light shine at its optimal best. If you use regular batteries, you will end up getting new batteries every 3 weeks if you use your light daily plus your light will fade towards the end of the battery. Hope this helps.
