Answer:	As long as the middle is unlocked, you just need to pull hard. You'll see once opening it that the legs are grasped by a holder on the opposite side of the table. It's stiff the first time you open it, but gets looser over time. Its just a way to hold the table closed when folded. I had the same concern when I first got mine, don't want to break it! Don't worry, it's just a stiff plastic holder.

Answer:	The table has to be fully extended, with just a bit of slack on he joint for the lock to work. It's the downfall of the table, but not really a necessary feature either.
