5 best igloo thermoelectric coolers
Igloo thermoelectric coolers are portable cooling units designed to keep food and beverages cold while you're on the go, making them a popular choice for camping, hiking, and outdoor activities. Here are some key features and information about Igloo thermoelectric coolers:
Cooling Technology: Igloo thermoelectric coolers utilize thermoelectric cooling technology, which relies on the Peltier effect to transfer heat from the inside of the cooler to the outside, thereby cooling the contents. Unlike traditional coolers that use ice packs or compressors, these coolers do not require ice and are more energy-efficient.
Capacity: Igloo offers a range of thermoelectric coolers with various capacities, from compact models that can hold a few cans to larger units capable of accommodating food, drinks, and more. The choice of cooler size depends on your specific needs and the duration of your outdoor activities.
Power Source: Igloo thermoelectric coolers can be powered by both AC (wall outlet) and DC (car adapter) power sources. This versatility makes them suitable for use in vehicles, campsites, and other locations where power is available.
Temperature Control: Many Igloo thermoelectric coolers feature adjustable temperature settings, allowing you to set the desired level of cooling for your items. This can be particularly useful for maintaining different temperatures for various items, such as keeping food cold while preventing it from freezing.
Portability: These coolers are designed for portability, featuring built-in handles, lightweight construction, and a compact design. Some models even come with wheels and telescoping handles for easy transportation.
Durability: Igloo is known for producing durable outdoor products, and their thermoelectric coolers are typically built to withstand the rigors of outdoor use. They often have rugged exteriors and are designed to handle varying weather conditions.
Additional Features: Depending on the specific model, Igloo thermoelectric coolers may come with additional features such as LED displays, interior lighting, cup holders, and storage compartments. These features can enhance the user experience and convenience.
Noise Levels: Thermoelectric coolers tend to produce less noise compared to compressor-based models, making them a quieter option for outdoor activities.
Energy Efficiency: While thermoelectric coolers are generally more energy-efficient than compressor coolers, it's important to note that they may not cool as rapidly or maintain extremely low temperatures. They are best suited for maintaining cool temperatures rather than rapidly chilling items.
In summary, Igloo thermoelectric coolers are portable, versatile cooling solutions for outdoor enthusiasts. They come in various sizes, are designed for durability and portability, and can be powered by both AC and DC sources, making them a convenient choice for camping, hiking, and other outdoor adventures.

User questions & answers
Question: | From what I see in the reviews it seems that there is a problem with the cord getting to hot and the tip of it melting. Is there a better quality cord |
Answer: | I've had no issues with the cord attached to the cooler itself but I did have an issue with the Schumacher PC-6 120AC to 6A 12V DC Power Converter that I purchased for indoor use. It ran hot and in less than 6 months it died (Amazon graciously allowed me to return it and gave me a full refund). I replaced it with a Wagan 5 Amp AC to 12V DC Power Adapter. While it gets a little warm, it runs much cooler than with the Schumacher adapter. In fact, the Igloo runs quieter and appears to be more efficient with this adapter. That said I think the power source may be the root cause of the issues that others may have with overheating/melting. I run my cooler inside, all day, everyday as it serves as my office refrigerator and I've had it since last November. I love it and will buy another on the sad day planned obsolescence kicks in. |
Question: | Why is the larger unit cheaper than the smaller unit |
Answer: | Really don't know but I found out that the larger one keeps cooler much longer and at a lower degree. |
Question: | What is the power consumption in amps? I'm useing deep cycle batteries, and low amps is a must |
Answer: | Working current, battery consumption is between 3.5 to 4.8 Amps according to the owner's operating manual. The current draw is 6 amps maximum at 12-volt DC. I hope this is helpful. |
Question: | What is the inside height with the lid closed? Looking to keep some Smartwater bottles in there (they are 12" tall and 3" diameter). Thanks in advance |
Answer: | I have the same question except I'm wondering if the lid will close with 2-litre soda bottles standing inside. That 13 1/2" height measurment sounds rreeaalllly close to the height of a 2 litre bottle. Has anyone actually tried it? |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does the unit warm up the car compartment if it's kept running during a long trip |
Answer: | It didn't quit getting cold. It froze with ice everywhere I side and that was at the lowest level. I s frosted it and 2 days later I was caked with ice inside. I keep defrosting it twice a week. Not worth buying. |
Question: | Does this run all the time when plugged in or cycle on off like compressor units do? If it's on all the time no wonder it'll drain a 12Vbattery fast |
Answer: | Once a week. Horrible product. |
Question: | What are the inner dimensions |
Answer: | It is 5 shelves |
Question: | Can you use this w/ice, then plug it into a 110V outlet at destination |
Answer: | Unfortunately… Our freezer and lasted two months before it died and we are still waiting for a replacement with no hope in sight, so we never had to defrost our freezer. The customer service from this company is horrible I do not recommend buying anything from this company. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Would this keep drinks cold on an outdoor patio |
Answer: | This unit will keep things about 20 degrees cooler than the outside temp at best. I freeze a couple of water bottles or a freezer pack and it will keep things cold much better. Takes about 10 hrs or more before the frozen bottles melt enough to drink with the outside temp at over 90 degrees. |
Question: | What mechanism generates the cool |
Answer: | 40 Quart PowerChill Hot/Cold Thermoelectric Cooler Take some cold drinks on your next road trip while leaving the ice at home with a Coleman 40 Quart PowerChill Thermoelectric Cooler. More than a cooler, but not quite a refrigerator, it cools up to 40 °F below the surrounding temperature without any ice. So if you use your cooler in an environment where the temperature is 70 °F, this cooler will maintain an internal temperature around 30 °F. You can use it like you would any other cooler except, instead of throwing ice inside, you simply plug in the 12V car power adapter. Then add your pre-chilled drinks and snacks. Your cooler will reach maximum coldness in about three hours (you can speed this up by adding Coleman ice substitutes) and stay cold as long as it's plugged in. Large enough to hold 44 cans, you'll have plenty of space for refreshments for the whole trip, and you can keep all your contents organized with the storage tray. |
Question: | Can it be powered with a battery |
Answer: | Sure....It is 12 volt, so it can be powered with the included cigarette lighter cord, or from any 12 volt battery with the appropriate cord for connection. |
Question: | How long can it stay plugged in before draining battery |
Answer: | That question depends totally on your battery supply. Mine runs off of 2 -12V batteries and I can leave it on for 12 hrs or more before I have to start the truck and make sure the batteries don't get past half used. |
