Can this accurately adjust to 1 bubble per second

Answer:

Not much really, considering they include the bubble counter/check valve (which works very well). You will want to get a diffuser for the inside of the tank. These mainly just make the co2 into very small bubbles as so there is better dilution of the gas. The "spiro" ones are cool as there is a spiral of glass tubing inside (think of a glass spring) that shows the flow of co2 spiraling around up until it gets to the ceramic membrane. These membranes over time will wear out though I've had mine for about 6 months and it simply has some algae on its surface. You will also need a drop checker, there are many co2 amount/dissolved in your tank devices out there but a drop checker is IMO Imelda much better as it needs almost no maintenance and it shows you if there is a proper dilution of gas (its a chemical ph tester) by having a small glass reservoir turned upside down in a way. It contains a solution which is blue in color if not enough co2 is present, green if just right and yellow if too much. They run about 30$ with the solution and it will last forever. While on the subject of ph, do yourself a favor and purchase a digital ph tester for quick testing (get the calibration solution as well) as the drop checker does a fine visual check, but if the light hits it just right you may see varying shades of whichever color, so testing it every few hours during set up week is a good idea. There are a hundred other products though the last and most important is a great quality timer. If you run co2 when the lights are off, you end up with carbonic acid after a while- killing everything. This is due to your plants not hoing about their photosynthesis and thus not using the co2 which builds and builds. There's a great digital timer with a set of day outlets and a set of night outlets that run when day outlets turn off- nice if you have a lunar scape (some blue LEDs that mimic the moon) with a cool looking effect. The digital one runs about 40$ though I've seen it at my LFS for 75$.. With these products you will only need to get Tylenol out for the headache you will get from adjusting your needle valve to the " ideal 2-3 bubbles per second " that you hear everyone talk about. It depends how much you need based on your plant load, size of tank/volume of water and your water itself, not to forget the ideal ph for the inhabitants which share your tanks space. This is where the hand held ph tester comes in handy- I have some specific breeds of cichlids in one tank that require a higher ph, your life stock might need a lower number. These items will get you started, but aquariums are like candles- one is never enough. Oh and if you need AWESOME and cheap lighting I can direct you to a great place FYI.
