7 best rv electric generator
An RV electric generator is a portable power source designed to provide electrical energy for recreational vehicles (RVs) when they are not connected to shore power or a campsite electrical hookup. These generators are crucial for powering various appliances and systems inside the RV, allowing travelers to enjoy amenities while on the road or at remote locations. Here are some key points about RV electric generators:
Types of RV Generators:
- Gasoline Generators: These generators run on gasoline and are common in many RVs. They are relatively easy to refuel but can be noisy.
- Propane Generators: Propane-powered generators are quieter and produce cleaner emissions than gasoline generators. They use propane stored in onboard tanks.
- Diesel Generators: Some larger RVs have diesel generators, which are fuel-efficient and provide a steady source of power.
Power Output:
- RV generators come in various power output capacities, typically measured in watts. Common sizes range from 2,000 watts to 7,000 watts or more.
- The generator's size should be chosen based on your specific power requirements, including appliances like air conditioners, refrigerators, and microwaves.
Installation:
- RV generators are typically installed in a compartment or under the RV. They are connected to the RV's electrical system.
- Proper installation is essential to ensure safe and efficient operation.
Starting Mechanism:
- RV generators can be started manually using a pull cord or electrically with a push-button start.
- Some generators feature remote start capabilities, allowing you to turn them on or off from inside the RV.
Noise Level:
- Noise levels vary among different generator models. Quieter generators are often preferred for RV use to minimize disturbance to fellow campers.
- Generators are typically labeled with their decibel (dB) rating, and quieter models are referred to as "quiet" or "inverter" generators.
Inverter Generators:
- Inverter generators are known for their quiet operation and clean power output. They are suitable for powering sensitive electronic devices and appliances.
- These generators are more fuel-efficient because they adjust the engine speed to match the power demand, reducing fuel consumption.
Maintenance:
- Regular maintenance is crucial to keep an RV generator running smoothly. Tasks may include oil changes, air filter replacement, and spark plug inspection.
- Consult the generator's manual for recommended maintenance intervals.
Fuel Efficiency:
- Fuel efficiency varies among generator types and brands. Inverter generators are generally more fuel-efficient than conventional ones.
- Consider the generator's runtime per gallon or pound of fuel when making your choice.
Safety Considerations:
- Be aware of carbon monoxide (CO) risks when using a generator in or near an RV. Always operate the generator in a well-ventilated area and use CO detectors inside the RV.
- Follow safety guidelines and store fuel in approved containers.
In summary, RV electric generators are essential for providing electrical power to RVs when camping in locations without access to shore power. They come in different types, sizes, and fuel options, so choosing the right generator for your RV depends on your specific power needs and preferences. Proper installation, maintenance, and safety precautions are essential for a safe and enjoyable RV experience.

User questions & answers
Question: | start a 13500 btu AC |
Answer: | We have a 13,500 BTU A/C in out 2004 Mountaineer and this generator starts and runs it with no problems. We leave the generator in "economy" mode all the time and it naturally revs up when the A/C starts up, but has never failed to do its job. Also, we run it only on propane... it's never had a drop of gasoline in it. |
Question: | Looks like it would weigh more with the battery and starter. Not much heavier than the 75531i |
Answer: | Rope start backup. |
Question: | How to connect to 500 gal tank |
Answer: | mine is connected to our 500 gal tank but it took some work going back & forth between the tech at champion (have to get the right one) and my propane company. i had propane company put a quick disconnect valve at the house, where the propane goes into the house on the low side of the step down valve, then i had them make me a 20' hose that connects to the diaphragm / hose that champion provides minus their regulator. There is a limit on how long the new hose can be as the pressure will drop with distance and you do need a minimum about of gas pressure for it to work. (see other answer from Champion here). Triple check w/ both Champion & your propane company. Also when you turn it on to run, the gen will have to pull out the air in the hose, takes several short cranks on the gen and if it's cold out you may end up having to pull the cord - takes some practice w/ the choke. Once the propane is flowing it's easier to restart if you don't disconnect the hose from either end. I used it this way for 22 hrs recently and it worked like a charm. Don't forget to check the oil regularly. The diaphragm must be exposed to ambient air pressure but also must stay dry. |
Question: | Does this come with the lp hose? And what connection is it |
Answer: | Yes it does. The hose connection is std. 3/8 propane connection like a barbeque uses. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can this generator be hooked up to a larger (100+ gallon) propane tank, with some type of adapter |
Answer: | You need a POL to QCC1 adapter like this or similar. ( SHINESTAR Propane Tank Gauge and Hoses https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M0ILKIJ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_dmVNBbFV8KWDT) Just bought one of these generators for my in laws and a new 100# tank right before hurricane Florence. |
Question: | Can I run a fridge and a freezer |
Answer: | Definitely. I ran my furnace, fridge, heater for the fish tank, a bunch of lights and phone chargers. Just remember to start the generator first, let it warm up some, pull one thing it at a time and you'll be fine. |
Question: | What is the decibel noise rating |
Answer: | Remember folks that this is a air cooled engine which are notoriously noisy engines by design. The engine does have a large muffler which helps a lot with exhaust noise but this generator has a open cabinet and doesn’t have an enclosed cabinet so all the machinery noise from the engine and generator goes everywhere. Noise is relative to different people. If a rattling noise is what bothers you but low sounds don’t bother you, you might consider a more expensive model that is enclosed. If rattles don’t bother you but low sounds do, then this is a good product for you. Personaly I knew what I was buying. An open generator that is going to make some sort of racket so I made a very nice enclosure and mine produces 65db at 5 feet. All generators of this price that are air cooled and not enclosed make a lot of noise. It’s more of a matter of what you or your neighbors can tolerate. |
Question: | if battery goes dead can it be started manually |
Answer: | yes, but only if using propane as a fuel source. if using gasoline then the recoil start won't work without a charged battery attached. I have tried it, and Champion customer service confirmed this. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Parallel is there a way to parallel these and use them to the full potential? Or get 240v |
Answer: | No. I went through this the hard expensive way. You would need to wire these in series, not parallel. It is confusing for us non-electrical engineers. It would be a good idea to make a series kit because in my estimation most people who can afford a 50Amp RV aren't going to screw around with two generators when they can buy a Honda EU7000is. There are no consumer grade (affordable) 240v propane inverter generators available. Just loud dirty power. |
Question: | The fuel is gasolinera or LPG or propane gas |
Answer: | The iGen4500 runs solely on gasoline. We also offer the iGen4500DF, which runs on both gasoline and propane. |
Question: | What is the Dual Fuel option |
Answer: | Gas (liquid) or lpg propane tank. Really nice to have |
Question: | cual es el costo de envio Puerto Rico |
Answer: | I paid 995 for the machine. I don’t know how much shipping is to PR. But I do recommend the machine. It works great |

User questions & answers
Question: | would like to adapt to another gererator. can someone tell me the actual axel length/wheel base measurment |
Answer: | i don't know what "pitchfork" is. But it does not slow things down. It is a mono input, and from that you get 1 octave down (middle knob) and one octave up (right knob). whatever is in the input (guitar, bass, mono'ed iPod), that signal is pitch shifted one octave up and down. No control over pitch (i.e., steps), just volume level of each. I use it for bass. it is killer |
Question: | Ran gen and turned off petcock till unit died. Why is gas still getting into carb/air cleaner assembly |
Answer: | Because the supplied AC adapter provides the unit with the correct voltage and current and its plug has the correct center pin polarity. You can of course configure your own alternative source of power if you know what you’re doing. If not, you could end up with an expensive paper weight. |
Question: | can you plug a power strip into the outlet and run lamps, refrigerator and sump pump all at the same time |
Answer: | This works perfectly with a bass guitar! |
Question: | Can somone explain the difference between surge watts and running watts |
Answer: | It just provides a non affected signal in case you’d want to run both bass and dry at the same time. |
Question: | Bass guitars can blow guitar-amp speakers... Any danger of speaker damage with a heavy octave down signal? If not, why not |
Answer: | There is one output. There is a DRY knob which acts as a blend control of the wet and dry output signals. |
Question: | Can this be used like the pitchfork, to transpose songs to 1/2, 1, etc steps down |
Answer: | Yes. On true bypass, the signal outputs to both the dry and effect outputs and can act like a splitter. I just tested one of our pedals of this model and verified that this it true. |
Question: | Can this be powered by an mxr iso brick? the owner manual has a warning not to power with anything but the supplied ac adapter. anyone know why? th |
Answer: | 9.6v is the correct voltage for all 9 volt pedals and power supplies. They just shorten it and call it a 9 volt, and drop off the .6. |
Question: | How well does this work with a Bass guitar |
Answer: | This is not a distortion pedal for Metal (Its a Overdrive high gain). Is very similiar with the OCD from Fulltone. Than it's works fine to be the boost to push the AMP distortion or to push another Distortion pedal. |
Question: | What is the dry output for |
Answer: | It is the only version. It is the size of the nano pedals. |
Question: | Could you run the Wet and Dry output signals at the same time to an amp that has only one input |
Answer: | It will sound fine with a solid state amp and works well as a stand alone OD or in front of an already overdriven amp. Very versatile circuit. |
Question: | On true bypass, does the signal output to both the dry and effect outputs? So, if running to 2 amps, it would act as a splitter |
Answer: | You can push your tube amplifier right to its breakup point with this pedal and works great with bass giving your bottom end even more bottom end. I use it with a guitar and it's one of the best distortion pedals out there right now. Highly recommend this pedal and you won't be disappointed. However, if you are on a tight budget look no further than the Behring BOD400 Bass Overdrive Pedal. |
Question: | Will the nano pog operate normal on a 9volt port off a pedal board brick? references are for a 9.6v power supply but the port on the nano states 9volt |
Answer: | They used to be $239, indeed. I’m puzzled too. |
Question: | Good for metal? currently running a joyo vintage overdrive through a laney ironheart and a 7 string with emg 707's |
Answer: | Functionally it should work fine. Since it's intended to emulate and organ it'd be out of the range of most typical organ parts unless you're playing further up the bass register. |
Question: | is this the nano version |
Answer: | Hi, The B9 will respond well with another pedal running through it. It has several styles organs buildt in it that work well. I had a problem with a noise factor from it when I put my whole pedal board through it. I have not tried working sound filters with it yet. It's fun to play around with at home. On the stage I only use it for one song, other than that it's turned off the whole time. Hope this helped you some. Stevie Wonder I believe uses a lot of digital compression to get that sound on superstition. It's a combo of things not just a pedal. Stevie used the Moog/Tinto System and also the Hohner Clavinet mini system on the bass part to create that sound. You are not going to get that out of a single pedal for the amount of money you are paying for it. Hope this was helpful. Enjoy it! |
Question: | Anyone try this with solid state amp? Good for stand alone overdrive? Thanks |
Answer: | It comes with a power supply that is specific to the B9. It does NOT run on batteries. A battery could not handle the B9's power requirements. (I like power supplys better. More dependable.) The B9 comes equipped with an Electro-Harmonix 9.6DC-200BI power supply (same as used by Boss & Ibanez: 9.6 Volts DC 200mA). To be on the safe side, if your power supply needs replacing, buy the Electro-Harmonix one. You will love the sound. P.S. Use a solid body electric guitar if possible to eliminate feedback and unwanted sound from hollow and semi-hollow guitars. Enjoy! |
Question: | Looking for a basic Stand Alone distortion/overdrive pedal for my BASS. I am going through a 15w tube head. Is this the unit |
Answer: | The Lester G is for Guitar. The Lester K is for Keyboard. It goes between the cable and amp or direct box, you can't plug the CU-1 into it, but you can use both at the same time. |
Question: | am Interest in this pedal. Why is it so much more than suggested retail |
Answer: | This is the Lester G (G is for Guitar). For a keyboard, you want the Lester K (K is for Keyboard).https://www.amazon.com/Electro-Harmonix-Lester-Stereo-Rotary-Speaker/dp/B01ABKSFGY/ref=sr_1_1?m=A1DE673R49FK32&s=merchant-items&ie=UTF8&qid=1471988753&sr=1-1&keywords=lester+k |
Question: | How would this do with bass |
Answer: | Hi. There is no manual in the box...just the warranty card. The ideal settings are already programmed as "presets." If you go to Electo harmonix website (yahoo search ravish sitar settings) they will give you lots of info and videos. Also videos on youtube. |
Question: | Can you use this to get that nasty sound that Stevie Wonder uses in 'superstition", or the sound on "up on cripple creek" by The Band, or can I run this thing through a crybaby wah pedal to get totally funkafied |
Answer: | I am not sure of your question! Are you asking if you can produce strictly a tonal drone sound similar to what a Tanpura does? You may be able to tweak the Ravish Sitar to do that within itself to some degree however I think the response will not be a consistent drone. It will probably vary and follow what comes in through the main instrument inputs to some degree. You may be better off downloading a Tanpura app for android and use that to produce your drone sound. There are a couple of good ones out there. |
Question: | Does this come with a power supply or does it just run on batteries |
Answer: | I bought the RAVISH for a project and after the recordings were done I sold it.. I'm not sure regarding your question.. Sorry. I can honestly say it really does sound like a sitar especially in the "exotic mode" If you put in a signal that isn't in the "scale" it just won't play the note/notes. You can input any "key" as I recall there are 5 preset modes and I believe 2 of them are minor or major . Although its a one trick pony, it does the job of changing the guitars input signal very well. The person I sold it too used his acoustic (sound hole pup) to try it out. After I set the controls it really amazed him. And he was quick with the cash.. If you do purchase one, using an expression pedal really is amazing and puts the Ravish in an elite group of efx. |
Question: | Is this item compatible with a hammond cu-1 or similar switch |
Answer: | Yes, I do believe that is about the size of it. Lots of knobs; lots of options; inputs; outputs; changeable presets; voicings; noiseless bypass throughput; et al. This is no one trick pony. The sounds of Indian-influenced stringed instruments might actually require a stomp box the size of a sub-continent. This unit takes up a lot of real estate and is pricey, just not outrageously pricey. If you need this universe of sounds, then the cost and the size are of minimal consequence. |
Question: | Excuse my ingnorance, could I connect this to any keyboard? if so, how do you connect it to the keyboard? thanks |
Answer: | Yes |
Question: | Does it include a manual? Preferrably one that shows ideal settings |
Answer: | Yes. If you have the Legacy Adapter for Xbox One you can use this bass with Rock Band 4. |
Question: | Can this drone without affecting the guitars signal as you play? Acting like a freeze |
Answer: | Yes, it does |
Question: | Can I easily change/alter the presets and use them in any key I want..say C or C |
Answer: | If you have one of these (http://www.amazon.com/Rock-Band-Legacy-Game-Controller-Adapter/dp/B01541ACLQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1452868226&sr=8-1&keywords=xbox+one+rock+band+adapter) you can use it with your Xbox One on Rock Band 4. |
Question: | Amazon lists the dimensions as being 8 x 3.5 x 7 inches. Is it really that big |
Answer: | Yes, they are indeed 9 pin. |

TONE SHIFT Swtich
This switch controls the mid-frequency emphasis of the TONE knob. Setting this switch to OFF creates a flatter EQ, with some emphasis on low mids. Setting the SHIFT switch to ON emphasizes mids and high mids. There is also a small increase in volume when the switch is set to ON.

User questions & answers
Question: | How long can i keep the generator running continuously? (westinghouse wgen |
Answer: | The generator will run for about 3.6 hours at full 1600 watt load, the 12V output max output is 100 watts. Probably over 24 hours. I don't think the load on the 12V plug would not make much difference from just letting it idle with not load. 100watts is about 1/8HP and it has a 2HP engine. |
Question: | Why oh why can't this be shipped to alaska? we're the ones that need generators |
Answer: | I personally would use Shell Rotella. I burned up a couple of Built-rite 4 stroke weed eater motors on Mobil 1 within a year. I am now on year 5 on the 3rd one I bought with Rotellla oil. Run it in my 4 stroke motorized bicycle too. Still runs like new with 15,000 miles on it. I think some those synthetics have high heat problems when these air cooled motors are shrouded. Rotella had better specs, that's why I switched. |
Question: | Is the 50 amp 120/240V 14–50r transfer switch capable or can you only use the 30r? It says 50 amp transfer switch ready on the brochure |
Answer: | I have the 1700/2000 watt Wen 56203i inverter generator and it runs my 5000 Btu window AC at my cabin just fine MOST of the time. The AC pulls 500-600 watts when running, but startup is quite a bit higher. When I'm running your standard Walmart box fan, 32inch LCD TV, a laptop charger and a few led lights at the same time, I've had the generator overload a few times when the AC has cycled off and then starts back up. That tells me that I'm right at it's surge capacity with the other devices running. In 200+ generator hours of running the AC last summer and early fall, this happened 4-5 times. It just required shutting off the ac and fan, and pushing the reset on the gen, then turning them on one at a time. It seems like most of these comments are based on: A) starting watts from a generator sizing worksheet (where the answer is "no"), or B) from a calculation using only "running watts" and ignoring startup, where the answer is "yes". I'd lean towards an answer from someone who's tried it with the setup you want. As I mentioned, my 1700 running/2000surge inverter works for my 5000btu fine MOST of the time. It's a new AC and moderately efficient, but imagine older ACs will have a higher starting watts, and would kick off mine more frequently if it could start the AC at all. |
Question: | Prende aires acondicionados? Veo que es de pocos amperios |
Answer: | This thing is far too loud for any campground. I also have a Honda 2000. If they are running side-by-side, the only thing you can here running is the Wen, you can't even tell the Honda is running at all. If you want to camp at a CG that says, "No generators", you may find yourself kicked out if you run ANY generator. |
