Answer:	I own poodles, so given the breed this may or may not work for you. Also I am not a pro, this is free advice so take it at that value. First brush the hair (wire dog brush). Then use a wide tooth comb. When I come to a tangle I use the rake. If it is a small tangle say on the ears, I try to grab the dog hair above the mat with one hand and use the rake in the other so as not to pull on the dogs hair. If it is a large mat or close to the skin I work parts of the mat at a time. You could use is as a comb but it is not real effective unless your dog has lots of small mats.

My short-haired cats, it works less well, but did do a decent job at getting some mats out of the standard short haired cat. The very short haired cat, this doesn't do much for, it's more productive just to brush her.

Answer:	The furminator has tines that are really close together. My dogs did not like it because it pulls their thick hair. This product has one side where the teeth are pretty far apart. Use this side first until you get a lot of the loose hair off or until your dog gets used to it. Then turn it over and use the side with the teeth closer together to finish removing the loose hair. My dogs enjoy this product, they would not tolerate the furminator.

Answer:	It won't last long in the elements w/o cover, paint was sparse. Following others' excellent ideas, we applied 2 coats of exterior paint, added a condensed foam piece (children's flooring) to the floor (headspace is low, so we couldn't add bulkier insulation), and Reflectix insulation to walls and ceiling of lower space. Also used sturdy waterproof tarps (used large beach towel plastic clips to hold in place) to keep rain and wind out. It was flimsy for the price (for us), so we fortified it as much as possible!

Answer:	If you catch the matting early it will break them up but, once they get set or too large a combs will pull at the skin. If it's too bad you can pull it apart with your fingertips. Don't pull away from your pet's skin, pull so that you hold the mass of the mat steady and break off smaller clumps in a sideways motion. when you separate enough individual hairs from the mat it should just come away without any tugging. Then use this excellent product to remove the remaining tangles and keep mats from re-appearing. You can also hold the mat firmly and use the tip of this comb to isolate a few hairs at a time from the mat.

Question:	Has anyone used this on a cat? We have an older girl, and she's special needs. Her fur gets matted because she doesn't groom herself much
Answer:	My Maine Coon cat is 10 and it's a fine enough comb for regular brushing but she only tolerates so much pulling on the matts/fur. Smokey was having grooming issues too and has that long hair. I use this and just a regular comb to keep ahead of any mats. If you've got mats maybe get those shaved and then try this comb for regular brushing

Answer:	I don't know about dogs but this is a great brush. I have long haired Maine Coon cat that gets so mafted. I love this brush and did not shave him this Spring because tool works so well. His fur is long and curly and he doesn't mind being brushed. The ends of the tines are curved and do not hurt tender flesh. I hope this helps.

Answer:	I don't know what you refer to as a traditional rake but I find that is my favorable for long coated dogs. It's great for getting the mats out and dealing with the undercoat. It does not scratch the dog's skin and it combs gently through mats.

Answer:	Hi! I'm a pet groomer, I'm going to answer you the best I can. Forst of all, All dogs shed, there is no such thing as a non-shedding breed, all breed shed differently but they all shed. The correct use is to remove undercoat (dead hair that can't shed out naturally) or packed undercoat (undercoat that has been left in for so long that layers have built up creating matting of dead hair choking the skin and living coat, resulting in dry/greasy/flakey/hot spots depending on breed and how long it's gone on for). I highly recommend using this on long hair breeds such as Golden Retrievers, Shetland Sheepdog, Old English Sheepdog, etc. General rule of thumb is to start with the widest set teeth first and work your way to smaller - the point being to get the bulk out first, then get out the finer smaller tangles for a picture perfect coat. So for example, use this rake first, then a slicker brush, then a metal tooth comb (wide side first, then the finer side). This way you know for an fact you have removed all the dead hair and matting, because a comb never lies. I hope this helped, Have a great day!
