Answer:	Some dog nails are translucent so you can see where the soft inner part stops, don't grind into that part. If their nails are totally opaque it's more complicated, but if you look at the underside of a dog toenail you should see the cuppy hollow part that dirt gets trapped in, my rule of thumb is that all of that hollow part is safe to grind off. Stop and check it out if they flinch though, no need to take risks.

Answer:	I've not used the 7700, so I'm not familiar with it. The dremel rotates horizontally. I have big dogs, so I usually trim their nails after a walk to burn off some energy first. They lay on their side w/me kneeling next to them to trim their nails. With my biggest dog (German Shepherd), I trim the nails on the feet on the paws she's laying on, then have her lay on her other side to do the same thing on the other 2 paws. The dremel has been a life safer. It's so much less stressful than a trip to the vet.

Answer:	If your dog has long nails I would also be careful due to the fact it might have a long quick is well. Which means the blood vessel in the middle of the nail can grow! That is a fact. Now due to this what I recommend is trimming little-by-little. Sometimes the dog themselves will let you know when you're getting too close. If you were unsure about clipping what you can do is trim very slowly. Do not clip at a fast pace. This will also keep your dog a little calmer. What makes the dog jump is actually the sound of the nail trimmer themselves and the pinch. There are A pair of nail clippers I always recommend to my grooming clients. It is a small scissor light pair that have a black coated handle. These do not make that horrible crunch sound at all. They are the number one nail trimmers I always recommend my clients. They are the best nail trimmers I have used in my 20+ yrs grooming career. Remember, they look like small scissors. The grinder in this set is actually good for home use and will probably last long considering it is a diamond cut head. We used one diamond cut head for 2 years and did dog's nails all day.
