The gels are soft, but I wouldn't put it anywhere in the direct sun, as long as it's covered it should be fine, it took my boys a little while to get used to the feeling but they LOVE it now. Answer:	The large is about 36 inches by 20 inches, which fit my long, 65-pound dog perfectly, since to be cool, the important thing is to get the body on the mat, not the head or tail. When she lies on her side, her legs also hang part way off the mat, but this too is fine. Get a size large enough so that your dog's torso will fit on the mat. She still loves this, and it still loves how cool it is, even though the weather is getting cooler.

I called the poison hotline (ASPCA) and they reassured me that because of my dogs size and the ingredients (home grown USA), that at the very most, he might experience some loose stool or vomiting. Not saying that if your dog ingest this you should not contact your vet, but I thought I would write this answer to ease someone else going through the same process. You could also hold it a bit first or even sit on it so your sent on it. It might help. It took our dogs a few days to really get on it. They seem fine now. Good luck!
