13 best pet bird treats
Pet bird treats are special snacks or supplements designed to complement the regular diet of pet birds. They serve as a source of mental stimulation, variety, and additional nutrients. Here are some common types of pet bird treats:
Nutritional Treats: These treats are formulated to provide additional vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients. They can come in various forms like seed mixes, fruit-based treats, or even pellets fortified with extra vitamins.
Fruits and Vegetables: Fresh fruits and vegetables can be excellent treats for birds. Examples include apples, bananas, carrots, and leafy greens. However, it's important to ensure they are safe for the specific species of bird, as some fruits and vegetables can be toxic.
Nuts and Seeds: Small amounts of unsalted, raw nuts and seeds can be a tasty treat for many bird species. Examples include sunflower seeds, almonds, and walnuts. These should be offered in moderation due to their high fat content.
Grains and Cereals: Cooked grains like rice, quinoa, and oatmeal can be offered as treats. Make sure they are plain and unseasoned.
Commercial Bird Treats: Many pet stores offer a wide variety of commercially produced bird treats. These can include baked or extruded treats with different flavors and shapes.
Foraging Toys: Treats can be incorporated into foraging toys. These toys stimulate mental activity as birds have to work to extract the treat from the toy.
Dried Herbs and Flowers: Some birds enjoy dried herbs and flowers like chamomile, dandelion, and parsley. These can be sprinkled on their regular food or offered separately.
Protein Treats: For birds that consume animal protein, mealworms or crickets can be a special treat. These should be purchased from reputable sources.
When offering treats to your pet bird, it's important to keep the following in mind:
Moderation: Treats should only make up a small percentage of a bird's overall diet. The majority of their nutrition should come from a balanced, species-appropriate bird food.
Safety: Ensure that the treats you offer are safe and non-toxic for the specific type of bird you have.
Freshness: Treats like fruits and vegetables should be fresh, and any uneaten portions should be removed promptly.
Variety: Offering a variety of treats can provide mental stimulation and prevent dietary monotony.
Remember that each bird species has its own specific dietary needs, so it's a good idea to consult with a veterinarian or avian specialist for guidance on the best treats for your particular pet bird.

User questions & answers
Question: | Why the price jump from 6.62 to 9.98, in only 6weeks |
Answer: | I don’t think all the toys would be good for them. My caique LOVES the large ball. My cockatiel loves the bridge/perch. (Which is actually why I bought this). I wouldn’t recommend these for an Amazon. Try mor sturdy toys, like leather ones. |
Question: | Will love birds enjoy this treat |
Answer: | If you buy a bird from a big pet store you will get a sick bird. They are raised on large farms. A private home is your best bet. I bought my bird from a very small village pet store. The day the babies came into the store from a private home I went in and got him. He was so little he did not make a single sound for six months. I thought I had a deaf-mute parakeet. Now he says about twenty words. He calls me mama. |
Question: | Hi do they all have a hole punched spot on the bag |
Answer: | yes it's 99% singing canaries about 35 min |
Question: | Will the seeds sprout if exposed to water |
Answer: | Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc. Both of these metals are potentially toxic to birds |

User questions & answers
Question: | what are the ingredients |
Answer: | See Lafeber's nutri-berry page: https://lafeber.com/pet-birds/birdfood/parrot-nutri-berries/ |
Question: | How much waste with these |
Answer: | If you feed the proper amount there is very little if any waste. Depending on the size of your parrot. Feed a small parrot from parakeet to ciaque 5-6, if the parrot eats all of them you can add one more until you start to see wasted ones. Then cut back one. Medium sized parrots like Amazons and Africa Greys start with 6 to 8 and add as previously described. For large parrots like Cockatoos and Macaws feed 10 to 12 and add as previously described. |
Question: | Do all these flavours have safflower seeds in there? Safflower seeds are both my conure and ringneck's favorite |
Answer: | Yes, each flavor contains safflower seeds. |
Question: | Please list the names of the four products as I cannot see which "flavors" are included in this four-pack |
Answer: | Garden Veggie, Tropical fruit. El Paso with Bell Peppers...I cannot remember the 4th one as I have thrown the empty bag away. My fussy blue front amazon would eat any of them..he did not seem to have a preference of which one. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Would parakeets be able to eat this |
Answer: | There are some larger pieces, but we do think that your parakeets would be able to eat this. Please call the Kaytee Team at 800-529-8331 with any questions. |
Question: | would this be good for an indian ringneck |
Answer: | I think so... We have a Philippine Blue Naped parrot which I think would be a similar sized bird. The fineness on the chop of the nuts can vary from jar to jar a little bit I've noticed. Nothing dramatically different though. We like keeping it around for our parrots for a little something to sprinkle for some nutty crunch in their snacks! |
Question: | Can finches eat this |
Answer: | Everything in the blend can be eaten by finches, but some finches may be challenged by the bigger pieces so may choose not to eat it. It contains pistachios, almonds, pecans, walnuts, peanuts and dried cherries. |

User questions & answers
Question: | can rabbits eat these |
Answer: | I hang the treat at the top of the cage. My husband made a little box approx 5 inches my 5 inches out of wood and put it under where the stick hangs. he attached it to the side of the cage. Now the extra seeds fall into the box, we also will put some fresh vegies that won't fit into the clips easily in the box. Our small birds love the little box and forge for their treats. The box was really easy to make just small scrap wood. They sell simple wood boxes on here it you are not handy. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How is this food, which is specified for conures, and different than the same food specified for parrots |
Answer: | Parrots, I assume you are speaking of the larger birds, have bigger beaks and can crush larger food, a conure is actually a member of the parakeet family and has a smaller bill. I have found my conure eats smaller foods much easier and has more trouble with larger pieces, I have more waste. I have actually fed her some parrot foods before but she had trouble holding them in her claw as conures eat like the larger birds, both by holding her food and eating out of the dish. I just go with what my vet recommends. My bird eats cockatiel size food also. Variety is better as well as real foods at times:) I give my cockatiel the same also, does well on them. |
Question: | Are these good for a nutritional every day food and what is the difference between these and the lafeber premium pellets |
Answer: | Since nutri-berries contain pellets, they can be a complete diet, though it would be recommended to have them as part of a diet along with a "regular" pelleted food. Consult your avian vet. |
Question: | Is the 20 lb. box the exact same pellets that the 3 lb bag is? The 20 lb. box does not say on the front "with papaya-pineapple-mango |
Answer: | I haven’t brought this 20lb box therefore I’m not sure , I would think it’s the same. But you can look at others selling this like DrFosterandSmith they too have free shipping. Hope this helps |
Question: | is this product for a small, medium, or large sized parrot |
Answer: | It is for a small parrot; I have a quaker. It would be perfect for conures, ..but too big for parakeets and cockatiels, too small for grays, amazons, similar sized... |

Question: | red seed for color |
Answer: | Not sure I understand the question based upon "red seed for color" but my cockatiel and African Grey parrots love these. If you break it in half as I do for the cockatiel it smells like strawberries. My birds have been eating this for years. |
Question: | Are these okay for parakeets does anyone know |
Answer: | Parakeet is a good size bird,it should be fine, they are sort of soft. If you're talking about a budgie (small bird) they might be okay, they are about the size of a dime, you might have to break them into smaller pieces |
