Answer: Install the cell unit in a vertical position preferably on the pressure side of the pump just where the filtered water enters the pool,this way the internal part of the cell will stay full of water and not run dry.However if you mount the cell horizontally,then an air pocket can form during the time the pump is at rest ,and can cause the cell to overheat,therefore a flow control valve needs to be installed just before the the cell (between the cell and the output from the pump) these flow control valves are in fact a large volume check valve and will not let water flow backward away from the cell and will insure the cell stays full of water during pump off time.That said , if all the components in the pump system (pump,filter,cell and associated hosing ) are on a plane and level relative to one another so that during pump shut down water will not 'run down hill or away from the cell then the cell will remain totally full of water even if the cell is mounted horizontally with out a control check valve. My cell is mounted vertically at the pool input port and is about 10 ft from the pump output.The pump and sand filter tank are raised about 8 inches above the ground so that the hosing and all remain full of water even during long periods of pump in activity.

Answer: Exposure to the elements will not directly affect the unit as all of the electronics are sealed.

Answer: Yes, but your pump has to be on.

Answer: for the most part. you will need a few electrical parts. after 3 months of install the return side of the 2" fitting broke and I had to replumb with permanate fix. Not to difficult. but I would recommend right know you plumb with a 2"x1/2"x2" tee SxTHxS and a 1/2" thrd x barb fitting.
Question: How do tell what % to set the cell at
Answer: Hi! Yes, they CAN be repaired, but I do not know if you REALLY want to. If you open yours up, you will find just a ballast (like a fluorescent light), a pair of lamp holders, and the tube itself, along with some wiring. If the ballast has its info tag still in place, you can get a ballast from a good electrical supply company or a specialty lighting supply house. If not, then they MAY be able to tell you what you need, just bring in the parts and cross your fingers. If you have to get the parts from PROZONE, you have to supply them a copy of an electrical liscense before they will sell the parts to you....by law. The price of THIER parts makes it cheaper to just buy a new PZ4. I know, I tried it! You CAN, however, get a GREAT deal on either AMAZON or EBAY on a new one if you catch it just right (How I got MY new PZ4!) BTW I AM an electrician, and it was a LOT cheaper for the new one than the parts. They are not hard to dissassemble and get the parts out, just ,make SURE you get your hands washed after...the residue from those bulbs is NOT good for you...and do NOT touch your face while doing it either!Hope this helps! BTW My PZ4 is FAR cheaper than when it went out and I had to buy the chemicals to make up for it not being there!John

Question: How do you know when/how long to run this? Just based on regular free chlorine level testing? Is there any way to automate this
Answer: This runs on time. Set it for the amount of time needed to keep the chlorine level within range. Personally I am finding it does not generate enough chlorine even at 10 hours for my 20 foot round pool so I still have a chlorine float set for minimum release. This works for me but every pool will be different, depending on size, use and exposure to sun.

Answer: It has a small window on the side of the case where you can see if the uv light is on. Very obvious. Mine works great. Made a huge difference in spa water quality.
Question: Does this come with amp plug bc reviews said it did not
Answer: For most applications this unit would be powered by your spa pack. Therefore, your spa pack would control when the lamp is operating. Some spa packs would run the lamp continuously while others may allow you to run the lamp only when a pump is operating. Refer to the spa pack manual to review your options. Lastly, a word of caution. Spa packs usually operate at 230V or 115V so opening one is very dangerous. If you are not qualified, get an electrician or spa technician to do this for you.
