14 best bayer grub killers
Bayer is a well-known brand that produces a range of products for lawn and garden care, including grub killers. Grub killers are used to control and eliminate grubs, which are the larvae of various beetle species, such as Japanese beetles and June bugs. These larvae can cause significant damage to lawns by feeding on grassroots, leading to brown patches and weakened turf. Here's what you need to know about Bayer grub killers:
Active Ingredients: Bayer offers grub killers with different active ingredients. One of the commonly used active ingredients is imidacloprid, which is effective against a variety of soil-dwelling pests, including grubs. Another active ingredient used in some Bayer products is dylox, which has a faster knockdown effect on grubs.
Application Methods: Bayer grub killers are typically available in various forms, including granules, liquids, and sprays. The choice of application method depends on your preference and the specific product you select. Granular formulations are often spread evenly over the lawn, while liquid or spray formulations may require mixing and spraying.
Timing: Grub control is most effective when applied at the right time. Bayer grub killers are typically applied in late spring to early summer or late summer to early fall when grubs are actively feeding near the surface.Follow the instructions on the product label for the recommended timing in your region.
Coverage: It's important to apply the product evenly to ensure complete coverage of the affected area. Proper coverage ensures that the active ingredient reaches the grubs effectively.
Watering: After applying a Bayer grub killer, it's usually recommended to water the treated area thoroughly. This helps to activate the product and drive it into the soil where the grubs are located.
Safety Precautions: Always follow the safety instructions and precautions provided on the product label. This may include wearing protective clothing and avoiding contact with skin or eyes.
Effectiveness: Bayer grub killers are known for their effectiveness in controlling grubs when used as directed. However, the degree of effectiveness may depend on factors such as the severity of the grub infestation and the specific product used.
Reseeding: After using a grub killer, you may need to reseed any damaged areas of your lawn to encourage new grass growth. Some Bayer products may have recommendations or guidelines for reseeding.
Environmental Considerations: Be mindful of the environmental impact of using grub killers. Some formulations may be less harmful to non-target organisms and the environment than others. Always choose products that align with your environmental values.
In summary, Bayer offers a range of grub killers designed to control and eliminate lawn-damaging grubs. These products come in various formulations, with different active ingredients and application methods. To achieve the best results, carefully follow the instructions provided on the product label, and apply the grub killer at the recommended times for your region.

User questions & answers
Question: | Can this be used under fruit trees ie. Apple, pears, blueberries etc?? I need to be 100% sure and would like responses fro those whom are certain |
Answer: | I always want to give good information on this poisen. I can not answer your question. I use Bayer poisen for the yard and around the headges and for flea controll. I contacted Bayer about useing it during the hot summer months in Fl when the tempature reaches above 90*; Bayer informed me that it stops killing insects above 90*. For fruit trees you need to call their 800 # and ask them or your county Agracultrial Agent. Have a safe growing season. Dallas |
Question: | Will this work in flower beds with weed fabric and ceder mulch on top? Worried it won't get down to the grubs |
Answer: | This substance is a solvent. it will eventually dissolve and absolve in ground, so it would work when spread over mulch. |
Question: | does this kill chiggers? the normal insect killers won't work because they're arachnids, but noticed it does kill spiders and ticks |
Answer: | Yes it specifically lists chiggers as a pest it will control. Thanks for considering your purchase from Amazon through AgCareDirect. |
Question: | will this kill honeybees |
Answer: | Thats a good QUESTION. I dont know I would call Bayer and talk to them. Also make sure you read the MSDS INFORMATION and the instructions on how to speead it. Bayer is good for killing fleas and ticks. It lasts three months and use it untill the out door temps hit 90* or above. I live in Jax Fl. I use a comertial pest controll service year round and I have them spray for fleas during the 90* hot summer months. Comertial liquid poisen kills the fleas and ticks above 90*. I either just dump the bag in my spreader or sometimes use rubber gloves and speead it around the foundation of my house to kill roaches before they have a chance to get in. Also, BAYER does not kill anything if you use it during the hot days of summer when the tempature is above 90*. I called Bayer and read it on the MSDS sheet. Hope I helped you out. I was a Hamat Tech when I was a Firefighter now I am retired. Have a good spring. |

User questions & answers
Question: | We seem to have a grub infestation and animals are ripping up the grass to get at the grubs -- is it too late in the season to apply your product |
Answer: | I didn't read the package (no gone) to find out the best time of year to apply the stuff, I simply dispatched it using a lawn spreader according to the application chart on the bag. To answer your question, I'd have to say that as long as the ground hasn't yet froze solid, and liquid rain is still likely in the upcoming weather forecasts, then the product should still be effective. In my case, I was declaring war on a major infestation of opossums who's tunneling activities were under-mining the shed and beginning to cause large sink holes in our yard and driveway. One person had already fallen through a thin section of ground in the yard - into a hole that was 4 feet deep, with 20" - 24" inch tunnels going in both directions underground! I'd STILL like to know where the heck all that dirt goes, as no tell-tale signs such as mounds of soil were ever found on the premises! While researching this problem, I learned that grub worm are one of their favorite foods, and that promotes such tunneling activity in an area that contains such a food source. That's why I bought the grub killer in the first place. What I can say for sure is that, within 3 days after applying the stuff, 95% of my entire lawn was surprisingly dead! I assume that since what little vegetation still remaining was sparse blades of soft thin regular grass, it seems that every other living growing thing in the lawn was killed, presumably all weeds, crab-grass, wire-grass, etc. I'd also have to say that such devastation to the roots of the undesired plants must not have ben to healthy fore the grubs either. In addition to applying the grub killer, we also took other steps before applying the grub killer, including: filling tunnel entrances with crushed glass, and using kill traps to kill as many opossums as possible. In any event, there has been no signs of opossums, nor any new tunneling activity on the property since the grub killer was applied, but that could likely also be the combined results of a culmination of steps that were taken. I guess the real verdict won't come in until next spring, when we see if that pest problem resumes. Meanwhile, no one else has fallen through the ground around here, and we seem to have stopped it before any cars got eaten up in the driveway! In your case (if it were me), I'd still give it a shot, so long as water can still cause the chemicals to soon saturate the root level of the soil. Good Luck! |
Question: | Does this kill weevils that eat agave plants |
Answer: | Unfortunately, this product is not listed for the control of weevils. We would recommend applying our 3 in 1 Insect, Disease, & Mite control spray for that particular insect. You may apply every 7-14 days as needed for an active infestation. |
Question: | How many sq feet for 1 bag |
Answer: | Approximately 5000. Seems high priced but what isn't these days. 2nd year I have used it ..... No complaints |
Question: | What is the expiration date on the packages currently for sale |
Answer: | There is no exp date |

Question: | Will this kill moths and moth larve around stored wool rugs |
Answer: | The Complete Insect Killer is only for use on lawns and around building foundations to control listed pests. We do have a Home Pest Indoor/Outdoor that may be applied to a storage area that will control adult moths that come into contact with the insecticide, however, you would not want to apply directly to the wool rugs. |
Question: | will this kill Japanee Beetle eggs in the grass |
Answer: | Japanese beetles do not come from eggs. They are grub in the cycle when they are in the lawn and dirt. Use a specific grub treatment (i.e. Milky Spore) to rid them in the grub stage. |
Question: | can it be mixed with weed killer |
Answer: | If you need to apply a weed killer as well we would recommend applying this product first and once it has been allowed to dry completely you may apply the other product. |
Question: | your title says 40 ounce, your description says 32 ounces, which is it |
Answer: | It's 40 ounces. The bottle reads "25% more VS. 32 oz." |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can you use this in vegetable garden |
Answer: | You probably "could" use it to prevent/kill grubs (and other insects), but probably should not use it in your garden(s) if you intend to eat the veggies you grow, since it IS a chemical. Grubs typically won't eat most veggie or flower roots anyway as they tend to be a bit "hard" and "biter" for grubs liking, so you shouldn't even need to use any in your veggie or flower beds or garden areas, they do however enjoy grass roots as they tend to be much thinner, softer and "sweeter" to grubs, so use it only on your lawn/grass. You can also heavily apply this product and NOT worry about any lawn damage. I double the recommended spreader setting and it never negatively affects my lawn and I never get grubs anymore. Good Luck! |
Question: | will it harm earthworms |
Answer: | Grubex will not harm earthworms, nematodes or soil bacteria and does not pose a health risk to wildlife when applied according to label instructions. |
Question: | Can I use with crabgrass preventer |
Answer: | Yes, you can apply at the same time, I have for years! I apply this product each year 7 to 10 days after the LAST frost (usually early to mid March in my area of NYC), that way the soil has started to soften up and the products can get down and do their job, at the same time I apply a "Scotts" brand Crabgrass Pre-Emergent (which only kills/prevents SOME weed types) and so I also throw down a broader spectrum weed n feed to combat most/all other types of weeds and I also get a lawn food and a soil food down as well and I always overseed heavily each fall. Since figuring out my lawn and soil, what it needs and what works best for me, I have not had any grub or carbgrass issues in about 12 years. Good Luck |
Question: | Does this kill Vine Weevil grubs? Thank you |
Answer: | GrubEx1 will control the grub larvae of following insects: Japanese beetles, Asiatic garden beetles, Black turfgrass ataenius, Aphodius spp., European chafers, Green June beetles, May/June beetles, Northern masked chafers, Oriental beetles, Southern masked chafers, Caterpillars (including Armyworms, Cutworms, Sod websorms), Billbug grubs and crane fly larvae (including European Crane Flies). Answer: | It's plastic and I never expected it to last long. I am a rainwater harvester of over 17 yrs. and accuracy and durability is of most importance to me. I replaced this with an RG 202. Cost more but well worth it. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is there any way i can use this for plants in 7 gallon pots? or do i need the 75WP instead? I have root aphids |

User questions & answers
Question: | is this a liquid or is it granules |
Answer: | Being a granulated product, one that needs water for activation...no. Bayer also make a Powdered version, one that could be applied to trails show that the ants would pick it up and carry it to their nest. However it too is intended for mound treatment out of doors so I cannot in good conscience say that you should use it inside, only that you could use it if you were very careful. As far as a testimonial, the powder is about the best fire ant and other various ant killers I've ever used. |
Question: | Need an ant killer for inside house |
Answer: | This works for small ants that live in the yard. They also make a Fire Ant killer that works well. A Carpenter Ant lives ina nest in your eave usually so it needs a different bait. If Bayer makes one in the blue bottle I am sure it will work. |

Question: | will this product kill fungus gnats |
Answer: | No,it doesn’t as the label clearly states. |
Question: | Does this work for mealy bugs |
Answer: | Since it is a systemic insecticide it shouldn't effect seed germination at all. I would apply it at the same time you put seed down and water it in well. I don't know where you live but this product should provide protection for around three months. |
