14 best gel baits

Gel baits are a type of pest control product used to effectively eliminate common household pests such as ants and cockroaches. They are commonly used in both residential and commercial settings and offer several advantages in pest management. Here's what you should know about gel baits:

  1. Formulation: Gel baits consist of a gel-like substance that contains attractants and insecticides. These baits are designed to mimic the pests' natural food sources, making them attractive to the target insects.

  2. Target Pests: Gel baits are primarily used to control ants and cockroaches, including species like sugar ants, Argentine ants, and German cockroaches. They can be highly effective against these pests when used correctly.

  3. Attractants: Gel baits typically contain sweet or protein-based attractants that draw the pests to the bait stations. These attractants vary depending on the type of pest being targeted.

  4. Insecticides: Gel baits contain insecticides that are usually slow-acting. When pests consume the gel, they carry it back to their nests or colonies, where it is shared among other members. This process can lead to the gradual elimination of the entire pest population.

  5. Application: Gel baits are typically supplied in syringes or tubes, making them easy to apply in precise locations where pests are active. Common application sites include cracks, crevices, and areas where pests are known to forage.

  6. Safety: Gel baits are generally considered safe for indoor use when used as directed. They have low toxicity to humans and pets, but it's essential to follow the manufacturer's instructions and keep them out of reach of children and pets.

  7. Effectiveness: Gel baits can be highly effective in controlling pests when used consistently and strategically. However, they may require some patience, as it can take time for the bait to reach the entire pest population.

  8. Residual Action: Some gel baits offer residual protection, meaning they can continue to work for an extended period even after the initial application. This can help prevent future infestations.

  9. Indoor and Outdoor Use: While gel baits are primarily designed for indoor use, some products are suitable for outdoor application in areas where pests are a problem, such as around the perimeter of a building.

  10. Availability: Gel baits are readily available at home improvement stores, garden centers, and online retailers. They are sold in various sizes to meet the needs of different pest infestations.

In summary, gel baits are a popular and effective tool for pest control, particularly for ants and cockroaches. They offer targeted and relatively safe pest management solutions for both residential and commercial settings. Proper application and consistency are key to achieving the best results when using gel baits for pest control.

User questions & answers

Question: most comments say counterfeit ..is that true
Answer: I put it on the ridges of the insides of the kitchen drawers (the piece that makes them slide in and out), and underneath of my refrigerator and stove. The little applicator makes it so easy, and you never have to touch anything (which is great!) I put this down after seeing one bug a couple of months ago, and I’ve not seen another one. I don’t plan on wiping the paste up anytime soon at all, but when I do clean it away, it will be after at least a solid year and then I’ll reapply more. This product works amazingly well! And the sticky bait can be put in places that are totally out-of-the-way. I’m planning to wait one more month before removing the black plastic baits and washing the insides of my kitchen drawers and all utensils (again). But I’ll still leave the black plastic baits under the kitchen sink. That will be around 90 days or so for me, before I even move any of the originally placed baits at all. This stuff really works! If you do wipe it off, and you still do not see any bugs, please come back and let us know how long you actually ended up leaving it down for. I’ve worked in apt leasing and seen terribly infested apartments treated by a professional only one time, and then maintained with Combat. It is the only product I know of that really does work! :-)
Question: Does this product kill waterbugs
Answer: Hi there, I wouldn't recommend putting the cases on counters but would recommend to put where the sink cupboard is and warm places like hot water cupboards and under fridge/freezer, or places out of reach. The paste on the combat didn't stick well when I used but I had already bought Advion Syngenta Gel Bait as it had high reviews. I had put this around the counter and door ways and under the cupboards (places where you don't usually wipe clean often) Depending how bad it is I backed it up with borax and lightly powder areas to keep the critters out. The reason why I bought all these products as follows was because I had professionals in and the roaches kept coming back. The steps and items I used are as follows:1. Bed bug and flea Spray - I used this first, empty all cupboards and wipe clean, Use a mask as the spray is highly potent and old lace up shoes and gloves, then spray inside and under fridges, this draws them out from hiding and kills the roaches on contact. After a couple of hours, sweep and mop clean all areas (try to avoid using the vacuum, unless you have an old one to chuck out)and dispose away from house. 2. Then I used the borax and lightly powdered areas ie, under fridges and ovens, hot water cupboards, and on high sills, as this dehydrates them on contact.3. Advion Syngenta Gel Bait - was a breeze to use, the gel was pasted on the counter but more on the wall where under the tiles unseen. Also under and around cupboards and the kitchen door way areas.4. Lastly planting bait traps, hot water cupboard, under the fridge/freezer, behind the oven, under the sink etc.. I disposed of these after a few months.I used all of these products before christmas 2015, and all roaches are still gone. I still have plenty of gel, borax and bed bug and flea spray but keep it just in-case. Hope this helps :)
Question: How do you make sure you’re not getting the fake knock off that doesn’t work? Sometimes Amazon sellers send a fake version of this
Answer: Combat Max Defense System Brand, Small Roach Killing Bait and Gel is geared to smaller roaches like German roaches. For larger roaches like American and Oriental, we recommend Combat Max for Large Roaches for bait stations and Combat Max Roach Killing Gel for those cracks and crevices that crawling bugs hide.
Question: Does this also kill large American cockroaches
Answer: There's no definite time in terms of hours or minutes, but there is major Death each morning you check, especially the first week. The first day I put 4 of the circles surrounding the bottom of my fridge and the next morning there was like 100 or so dead under there and 100 or so under the sink. I never thought there was this many as I see maybe 3 roaming in a day so it was shocking. There were also a lot of "dust" from all the fallen legs/wings/parts of the dead roaches. Then after 7 days I only saw 20 adult roaches dead there. The third week I saw maybe 3. Now I see 1 or none after a month so I know the nest was destroyed.

User questions & answers

Question: Why wont it ship to Floral park NY
Answer: Actually it really doesn't matter, if you put it under the kick plate of the cabinet or not. ....put it where you think roaches stays a lot or where you see them most. I put mine under the sink, cupboards, corners and near the ovens....I'll suggest to get the gel combat with it to get the maximum protection. ...my problem with roaches is history and I feel safe now that they're not around in terms of getting diseases cause by them. And if I see them, they're dead.....hope this help because I know how it feels to have roaches around. Good luck!
Question: once opened does it dry out in the syringe
Answer: I also live in a 3 bedroom 2 bath apartment and I've been using the single pack of 16 pieces for the past several years with success.I strategically place the units on all walls that are adjacent to other units.
Question: Alright so it's gel, what do i do with it? put spots around the house and they eat it
Answer: That's about the size the ones I was dealing with were. I believe they were German roaches, if that helps. Just make sure you use the 12-month ones, the other kinds don't work. I think they probably use stronger stuff in the 12-month ones.
Question: After the soft gel is applied it hardens overnight .... Is the gel just as effective once it hardens... thanks
Answer: The first question is whether your cat can ingest the "poison". The bait stations are little plastic containers. They have small openings that the roaches go through to get to the bait. I doubt a cat could get its tongue through such a small opening. But they could possibly chew through the plastic container. The second question is if the car did eat the bait, would it harm them? The active ingredient is Fipronil. This is The primary ingredient in many flea treatment products for pets. So dogs and cats apparently tolerate Fipronil well. Fipronil is the active ingredient of this product and is only 1/200 of the bait so the amount contained is very small.given that it is difficult to get at, the amount is very small and Fipronil is already used on cats. .. this world seem to be pet safe. But ultimately you need to make that decision. I would ask your vet about whether your cat could be harmed if they ingested Fipronil from a roach bait trap.i hope this info is helpful. I used peteducation.com and parasitepedia.net as resources - good luck!

Vendetta Roach Gel Bait Insecticide - 4 tubes x 30gms MGK1003

Vendetta

Based on 2 reviews Check latest price

Product description

Vendetta Cockroach Gel Bait is a high-performance gel bait containing abamectin B1. Vendetta works on tough, hard-to-kill roach populations. Attracts both bait-averse and non-averse cockroaches. Vendetta Roach Bait is easy to handle and apply and dispenses smoothly and easily from the gel tube. Comes with a plunger for applying the bait. The tubes also fit standard bait guns such as the Masterline Professional Bait Gun. Shelf life is 3 years or more if stored at room temperature.

User questions & answers

Question: How is this compared to combat max gel
Answer: It is still good for 1 year after applying. If it's not eaten by then you can remove it. But it lasts a year once applied. Inside the tube it lasts 5 years if stored correctly. But no it does not disappear unless its eaten.
Question: does it work as well as Advion or better
Answer: Cockroaches are cockroaches! I don’t know the difference between Turkestan cockroaches any other but this product works! Be patient! Follow the directions and they will die! This might sound nasty but don’t clean up the dead ones. They eat each other and the poison kills the live ones. 30 days and you won’t see any. You’ll know it’s working because they won’t run away when they see you. They become disoriented and die.
Question: I have never used this before so do you HAVE to use a plunger to get the product our of the tubes? One review said their order did not include the advertised plunger so the product was useless until they could order a plunger. Please advise
Answer: Yes. When you take the cap off, they have included in a small sealed bag, mine had two of them needle like applicators, I figured cause two tubes come with it. And it has one plunger. You screw the needle like ends on simply and then squirt away. :-) A helpful tip is, when moving from one spot to another, pull back on the plunger or it'll keep letting it come out and drip cause the pressure., just pull back and it won't make a mess. :-)
Question: What is the difference between this and Vendetta Plus
Answer: At first we noticed a few dead ones, it took a few days (guessing it's from ones lingering around). Then after about a month, we had realized we hadn't seen any lives one in a while. So far this year, I live in South Louisiana so the tree roached that show up are pretty active and large, plus we have had a lot of rain and we have hardly seen any maybe 4 or 5. I am about to re-applicate just to make sure we don't start seeing an influx of them coming out.

  • Highly attractive formula promotes ready transfer of the active ingredient throughout the colony
  • Powerful, active ingredient knocks out workers, brood and queens
  • Approved for use indoors and outdoors, applied in cracks and crevices. Active Ingredient: Thiamethoxam, .010%.
  • How does Optigard Ant Bait Gel work? Ants that feed on the gel will return to their nest and transfer the bait to the queen and their young, thereby killing the queen, the young and the entire colony.

User questions & answers

Question: Ants are entering my son’s room near the ceiling. What is the consistency of this product? Will it drip if I apply it to the ceiling corners
Answer: The product has a gel like consistency but may also have some liquid when applied. The gel will run sometimes when applied to walls but this provides more bait for the ants. Do not disturb the ants while they swarm the bait.
Question: Does it have a strong odor? Thanks for your time
Answer: Hi! No---it has no odor that I've noticed, and you use very little at a time. You need to put it in the path of the ants and just little dabs at a time. It's a pretty thick gel so it sticks up around the ceilings, under a countertop edge, etc... just keep it away from pets and kids!
Question: Is this for sugar ants or protein ants
Answer: Sugar - says right in the description - The sugar-based gel matrix of Optigard ant gel bait is highly attractive to ants, which makes it extremely effective.
Question: if you used terro how does this compare
Answer: I have used Terro and I have found Optigard to be considerable more effective. What has worked well for me is to identify where the ants are coming from, and where their trails are. I then place a bead of about 1/2 inch, or so, near the entrance and on the trails. (If you are concerned about about pets or children touching the gel you might cut one inch pieces of drinking straws and put the bead of gel inside those) The ants are quickly attracted to the gel and you need to leave it alone. The ants will take the gel back to the nest and use it to feed the queen and the young ants. They will quickly die (a couple of days) and once the life cycle of ants is relatively short a dead queen means ne new ants. I've had really good results doing this.

A Clear Solution For Ant Control

It is estimated there are up to 10,000 trillion ants on earth, which means there are trillions of pest problems you could encounter around your property. Optigard ant gel bait from Syngenta Professional Pest Management offers effective control of a broad range of ants so you can help reduce the number of ants you face.

Optigard ant gel bait is known for its clear gel formulation that ants are attracted to and is easy for them to consume. It has proven to be accepted and palatable to a wide variety of ants. The powerful active ingredient, thiamethoxam, controls workers, brood and queens to ensure full colony elimination.

Optigard ant gel bait Profile

▸ Broad-spectrum control of ants, including Argentine, carpenter, odorous house, ghost and other ant species

▸ Non-repellent and transferable; knocks out workers, brood and queens

▸ Remains palatable for at least 14 days after baiting (indoors and outdoors)

▸ Non-staining and colorless formulation with little to no odor

▸ Packaged in a ready-to-use, 30-gram syringe with plunger for easy application

With its effective mode of action, durable formulation and excellent acceptance among ants, you can trust Optigard ant gel bait to offer the control you need to help provide a long-lasting, ant-free environment for your customers.

The Perfect Formula for Ant Elimination

The sugar-based gel matrix of Optigard ant gel bait is highly attractive to ants, which makes it extremely effective. Other baits can be too gooey, which prevents ants from transporting them back to the colony. However, the consistency of Optigard makes it easy for ants to carry to the colony and share with nestmates.

Optigard ant gel bait is also known for its durability under harsh environmental conditions. The formulation resists degradation caused by high temperatures and can retain its palatability for more than two weeks. Ants will continue to feed on Optigard ant gel bait even if the product dries out over time and the active ingredient becomes concentrated. This long-lasting effect reduces the chance of call backs and requires fewer applications.

User questions & answers

Question: how often should you change the bait
Answer: Small dots (half the size of a pea) work well. You can also lay out a small, thin bead 1 to 2 inches long in areas with heavier infestations.
Question: Is it okay to put this gel in my drawers with my clothes
Answer: Plungers can be removed from one tube when it is empty and used on other tubes. When you order from us you get one plunger per order. If you order 1 tube, you get one plunger. If you order 50 tubes, you get one plunger. We also sell bags of plungers separately if you need them: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01842GCPC
Question: Is this Bait, Insecticide, or both
Answer: This product works great for German roaches. For the "big roaches" I recommend spraying with Demon WP.
Question: How do I know if my roaches speak German
Answer: Good question. The abamectin takes about a week to work. In the mean time the roaches spread the bait (with abamectin and IGR around to the other roaches because they eat each other's feces and dead bodies (I know, gross...). The IGR works at a lot lower level, down to just parts per billion. If a little gets back into their hiding places it helps stop them from reproducing even if there isn't enough abamectin to kill them. I like to use this in rotation with fast acting baits like Maxforce Magnum or Advion. The fast acting bait starts killing roaches in 24 hours or less so you get a fast knock down, but can leave stragglers. I them follow up with Vendetta plus 3-7 days later to get long term results. I hope this helps. JoeEntomologist ePestHero

User questions & answers

Question: How long can you leave the gel on the cracks before needing to clean/wipe it away
Answer: If you have pets you do not treat their food or water. You put Advion where roaches are most likely to travel. Put it where they poop also. I put it under the fridge and the stove, in cracks and crevices where they hide.
Question: Can you use this on kitchen counters
Answer: No, the product is excellent as long as is fresh. I purchase a 4 tube pk. in January of 2019 and I was not able to eradicate the problem because of the leftover gel wouldn't work, not even 3 months later. Make sure is fresh stock. I have to buy again and I am looking between sellers to see if one put expiration dates. The product is really good works well it is just the shelf life is short.
Question: Are the disk openings large enough for large cockroaches (American and/or Oriental species
Answer: Currently this product is 0.6% indoxacarb and the Advion Ant Gel is only at 0.05% indoxacarb. This has 12 times more indoxacarb than the ant product. If the ants find this palatable they will eat it. Some ants like carbohydrates like roaches do, so they they will probably eat this. I would not put the weaker ant stuff out with a roach infestation, because it will not kill them and instead they will get more resistant to indoxacarb.
Question: How long until roaches die
Answer: I reapply once every year usually. But I’ve been known to do every six months as well. It all depends on how bad you have it.

User questions & answers

Question: What’s the difference between the select and magnum
Answer: I never had much luck with Combat product. This product seems to do quite well, and is the same stuff a paid exterminator company, I hired at one time, was using.
Question: I ordered this item and it did not include the precision tip applicator. How can I get one
Answer: A Big NO! Advion works like a charm, and this product does absolutely NOTHING! If possible I saw more roa hes within 2 weeks of applying this product. Later, ordered Advion and the roaches were all gone in 3 days.
Question: Will this work with all roaches or only germans
Answer: I received the plunger with my order but I did not use it. I purchased seperately from another company a "gun" like applicator that adjusts the size of the spot application, giving much more economical results. Also read the application instructions as it doesn't take much to do the job. An average kitchen will take less than 1 tube. Results will show up in 24 - 48 hours depending on the Roach population, it will not be instant like a can of Raid. Do not use the same bait for more than 3 months, rotate with Advion, Invicta, and MaxForce, so they can't build up an immunity.
Question: Can I use this on and around my stovetop safely? Is it flamable if I use it on and around my stove
Answer: The primary effective ingredient in standard Vendetta and Vendetta Plus are the same. The Plus version, though, includes the addition of Nygard IGR, a growth regulator that when ingested and shared among insects will help impair the development of future generations of roaches as they will not reach full maturity and will therefore not mate efficiently. This is a common technique with professionals mixing sprays, in which a strong, immediate "knockdown" pesticide may be mixed with another pesticide that has a strong "residual" effect for weeks or months, add in a "booster" (such as ExciteR or Kicker, with Piperonyl Butoxide) to enhance the efficacy of the pesticides, along with an IGR (Nygard, Precor, Gentrol, etc) to regulate insect growth & development. Baiting is still the most efficient method for Roaches and Ants, and is a cornerstone of the IPM (Integrated Pest Management) ideal currently in vogue. IPM's goal is that specific pests are "targeted" rather than a nuclear winter, shotgun approach, with attendant run-off, cross-contamination, potential human or animal exposure, and other environmental concerns that, frankly, most homeowners or tenants could care less about. Most homeowners or tenants just want the problem solved, and are often the cause of escalating failure rates due to overuse, misuse, and haphazard use of pesticides (such as not following label instructions, not preparing the area(s) properly for treatment through pre-cleaning or mitigating clutter, or not following up appropriately or in the correct time frame with the correct products). This contributes to increased insect resistance. As far as Roaches go, though, this product is among the best currently. Try to avoid placing it where pets might get at it (or use bait trays to avoid this), or small children crawling around on the floor may find it. It is advisable to also consider a routine of switching out gel baits with different formulations, such as Advion or MaxForce, etc. Also, be aware that Vendetta is primarily intended for use on German Roaches.Disclaimer: I am not currently a pest control "pro". I work in the trades at a school district and frequently consult with the pest control shop guys, as I used to manage several large multi-unit properties (40-50 units ea) and did nearly all of my own maintenance, including pest control. Besides regular contact with pros and pro suppliers, I have read about a half-dozen books on the subject, and regularly help friends & family with these issues. There are also literally hundreds of hours of video and reams of information at "do it yourself / myself" style websites (whose names mimic what I quoted, but if I write them in here, it'll get blocked, so good luck if you decide to pursue expanding your knowledge in this area).

User questions & answers

Question: How long does one application last? When do you need to reapply
Answer: I found out from a friendly pest control guy that you should change insecticides every three months. They become immune to it.and never ever use spray..they smell it they wont go there.so u cant kill them.
Question: Is there a "use by" date on the tubes? I may not need to use them all
Answer: No I don't remembering seeing any date to use the product by. But the product works wonders. Y. W.
Question: I really enjoy the product but i’m still not seeing a 100 percent difference what do i do if i want better results i’ve been applying for a month
Answer: This product worked great for me, make sure you use Gentrol round disk with it. The Gentrol has an insect hormone that attacts the roaches and sterilizes the remaining roaches. It takes about three months to get rid of all the German roaches.
Question: What is the exasperation date. i bought them back in november 2019. still ok
Answer: My understanding is one year. If it has been opened. Three years if it has not been opened already. So if you have not opened it it should still be good.

Bayer

Based on 488 reviews Check latest price

Product description

Maxforce Fleet contains the active ingredient Fipronil, for fast and effective control of ants in 3-5 days. The speed of Fipronil is formulated for ants trophallaxis, which is slow enough for foraging ants to return to the colony to feed the bait to larvae and the queen so entire colony is killed in a domino effect. The gel is a moist, carbohydrate-rich gel to enhanced the bait's attractiveness to target ants and enable it to stay where it is applied-even through vertical applications. It offers broad-spectrum control on carpenter, argentine, pharaoh, pavement, honey, acrobat, odorous house, thief, big-headed, cornfield and field ants. It can be applied indoors and outdoors in commercial, industrial and residential areas. Super attractive bait that works on hard to kill ants and has better formulation. This product comes in a box with 4 reservoirs. Application within food/feed areas of food/feed handling establishments is limited to crack and crevice treatment only. Apply with syringe applicator or bait injector directly into cracks and crevices. Place applicator tip into cracks and crevices and where ants may travel. Apply gel (up to 1 gram) per spot. Apply gel in spots in cracks and crevices. For best results, place many spots or dabs of gel where you see ants foraging and entering the structure. Place the bait as follows: Gel can be placed in cracks, crevices, corners and any out of the way place, such as under and behind kitchen appliances, along baseboards, under sinks, in pantry, around pipes and water heater, window and door frames, and in the garage, attic, or crawl space. Do not treat food preparation surfaces.

  • Kills Carpenter Ants, Argentine, Pharaoh, Pavement, Honey, Acrobat, Odorous House, Thief, Big-headed, Cornfield, and Field Ants
  • Fast acting - Colony elimination in as little as 3-5 days
  • Thick gel bait is effective even when applied to vertical surfaces
  • Contains Fipronil - Works slowly enough for foraging ants to get back to the colony to feed the queen and larvae
  • Ants die from "domino effect" after being fed, groomed or touched by infected foraging ants

User questions & answers

Question: why are there two types of tips for the syringe? which is best for outside application
Answer: Size of the granules.
Question: How do you put this product out so my cat won't get it
Answer: used to be .. BASF bought them years ago .
Question: There are two types of tips for the syringe, metal and plastic. Why? which is best for outdoor use
Answer: This ant killer is great because it wipes out the whole nest - not just the ants you actually see. Ant workers carry the granules back to the nest where the other ants will eat it and die. After a week or so you should see a major difference in ant activity until eventually you will see no activity at all because they are all dead.
Question: Are there four tubes in this package
Answer: I only used it on carpenter ants and I could not get the ants to eat or carry it back to the nest. I ended up using another ant poison.

User questions & answers

Question: Syngenta has two ant bait products. one has thiamethoxam (syngenta - trtd11568) as it's active ingredient where this one has indoxacarb. difference
Answer: optigard ant is syngentas other ant bait
Question: Advion bed bugs
Answer: It’s designed to attract and kill ants. I seriously doubt it would be effective on bed bugs but I’ve been wrong before.
Question: What is the difference between this one and the one that say for german roaches
Answer: This product is labeled for Ants only. It has a different bait profile to attract ants and a different active Ingredient to kill ants specifically.
Question: Why does it say "made by DuPont," but the package clearly says it is made by "Syngenta
Answer: Actually, it is NOT Dupont that bought Syngenta. I did my homework too(April 2018) and see that as of 11 months ago, Syngenta was bought by ChemChina which is a chemical company owned by the Chinese government. I wonder if that is the reason people have started complaining that the product has not changed from an odorless gel to a horrifically stinky liquid. I bought this before with GREAT success (and I read up everywhere about its safety), but now...not willing to take the chance that I am putting some reformulated and maybe dangerous chemical in my house.

Product description

Vendetta Plus Cockroach Gel Bait combines two modes of action in one tube. In addition to an effective cockroach bait Vendetta Plus also contains the insect growth regulator (IGR) NyGuard which interrupts the life cycle of the roach and helps to prevent future infestations. The IGR stops reproductive potential of cockroaches exposed to a non-lethal dose or populations resistant to other actives resulting in death or sterility of the population. This product is effective against both non-averse and averse populations of German cockroaches. Vendetta Plus is a good choice for control in environments that are tough to control and against heavy infestations killing cockroaches where they hide. Vendetta Plus does not contain any of the Big 8 food allergens (tree nuts, fish, shellfish, cow milk, peanuts, wheat, soy, or eggs), but is highly palatable to roaches. The innovative bait matrix does not get runny in high heat and stays attractive to roaches for months after placement. See our Cockroach Bait Gel Placement Guide for tips on application. We provide 1 Plunger PER ORDER to expel the bait from the tubes. You can purchase extra plungers or you can purchase a bait gun for use with this product.
