Answer:	Hello Diane, The clearance required all depends on how far backwards and forwards you would like to glide in the chair. Answer:	It would be for the nursery because it is a glider, used for rocking baby to sleep. We no longer use it for baby and have it in the living room because it looks nice. While it is comfortable to sit in, I wouldn't say it is for lounging because it isn't large enough.
