| Answer: | Since I don't take care of anything, mine has been outside uncovered since Jan '12. It's discolored and looks like the surface may indicate rusting, but the entire product is still solid. The product discolors very soon after use as you can read in the reviews but that's not rust although it is about that color. The screen top is rusting and will go first but it still should last some time yet. Truthfully, I like this so much that if it lasts another year, and I know it will, I'm still pleased and will buy another one. You can make a much bigger fire in this than in any of the decorative ones. |

| Answer: | No, but I did what was instructed with the grate. I but some some sand on the bottom of the pit. I've had mine for several years now and I've really enjoyed it. For me it's a good buy! |

| Answer: | For safety, you have to consider the height of the deck and distance from your house, since wind could inadvertently blow fire towards your home. If that doesn't seem likely, then you definitely have to place stone pavers under the pit. All fire pits get hot underneath. I've seen people sear their deck after repeated use of a fire pit. Also for safety, fill the base with sand. |
