Question:	Does it only accommodate thistle seed
Answer:	The metal mesh construction is made for thistle seed. I don’t think the mesh would allow other seed to get through
Question:	does anyone have issues with nyjer seed getting wet at bottom and getting moldy/snotty? I'm wondering if the deer licking the bottom rots the seed
Answer:	My feeders are above the heads of deer. Still, feeders probably should be cleaned of wet residual.

Answer:	I honestly don't know, since I am in California and haven't seen chickadees in my garden. The finches are very happy with this feeder and so am I. It is easy to refill, which is important to me, and would also be easy to clean, should I need to clean it.

Answer:	The tube that holds the seed has a 2.5 inch diameter and is 6.5 inches tall, for a total capacity of about 32 cu in. The dimensions given at Amazon appear to include the size of the tray, top, and hanging ring. The claim that the feeders hold up to 5 pounds of seed is inaccurate.....Our goldfinches, house finches, and other birds love these feeders, and discovered them the first day we put them out. We hung both feeders and have to refill them about once a week. The mesh sides allow many birds to eat at one time. The only downside is that the pure thistle we use will go through the mesh as we fill the feeder, but we either place a card stock sleeve around the tube while filling, or just hold the feeder over the seed bin.

Answer:	I can't attest to it being squirrel proof but i have not seen any squirrels on the two (same as this one) feeders I have.

Answer:	Yes, there is a hole on the bottom tray. appears to be about 1-1/4" wide and about a 1/2" deep as it comes to a point. There is also a 1/4" depression around the hole that is about 2-1/4" deep.

Answer:	The cones should be inverted, with the wider part facing down. These cones help to keep the seed spread throughout the feeder so more birds can be feeding.

Answer:	Will hold mixed Finch seeds too.

Answer:	Their are drainage holes and the bottom yellow piece detaches from the black feeder portion. The drainage holes don't work well though and the bottom few inches always get water damaged and the birds wont eat it

Answer:	The short answer is yes. BUT those persistent little finches still do a good job of cleaning up the wet seeds as they dry. I have had to take mine apart and clean them periodically to remove stems and other debris that is in the nyjer. By the way, I go through about 50 lbs of nyjer a month and bulk prices are much cheaper.

Answer:	I bought this a couple of months ago and have had no problems with the feeder, either with seeds falling out or getting moldy. Of course, we haven't had much rain here in SoCal. This feeder is solidly built and the finches love it.

Answer:	I don't think so. I imagine the peanut halves will clog the openings. The openings where the seed comes thru is rather small.

Answer:	Sorry, no. This feeder is made specifically for bottom-up feeding, which only the golden finch does. Some birds will try it but they fail. The holes are situated below the perch and none are reachable by standing on top of any of the perches, but there are many other feeders listed on amazon that allow any bird to feed. There are only a few of this type. Hope this helps 
Question:	is it supposed to come with perches?... Just got mine and there are just empty perch holes no perches
Answer:	Yes indeed.. There are three yellow plastic pegs long enough to reach through each parallel hole and sticks out both sides... Hench Perches... If you didn't get the perches... Guess someone messed up... :(
Question:	How does one keep the food from getting moldy
Answer:	I wash my feeder maybe once a month during the summer with dish soap and a bottle brush. As far as the thistle getting moldy, if you have a lot of finches visiting the feeder the thistle should not sit long enough to mold. Try starting with a smaller amount so it does not sit to long. When my feeder is getting low. I poor out the remaining thistle in to a cup, put in the fresh thistle then add the old to the top, if it is not moldy. That way you are rotating the feed and the older seed on top seems to get eaten first. Finches are picky, the feeder needs to be kept fairly clean. If they "suddenly" quit coming around, its probably time for a good cleaning. Hope this helps :)

Answer:	The top and bottom are copper and stay on tightly to keep water out and seed in, the tube is plastic, but I have not had any issues with it, I am happy as well as my visiting finches with this product

Answer:	There is no tray available with this feeder. I actually purchased it for my mother and it's s pretty feeder. Her only frustration was with the squirrels because they tipped the seeds out of the feeder.

Answer:	To be honest I have never cleaned it other than turning it upside down and shaking out left overs before filling again.
Question:	Nyjer seed (purchased from a big box store) appears to be too large for the holes? Is their a particular brand of nyjer seed that works best
Answer:	No, I have tried several different seeds and none work. The problem is with the feeder. It is beautiful, but not functional. I don’t think the seeds would be small enough if you ran them through a pepper grinder. I returned the feeder and bought another brand.

Question:	Can this be used as bird bath
Answer:	I hung mine close to my hummingbird feeders thinking they might use it but so far they haven't that I have seen. I dish is quite small so it would only work as a bird bath for very little birds. Bigger birds might drink from it, but they couldn't bathe.

Answer:	Yes, it's easy to clean. Just take off the lid and clean it directly with water.
Question:	Can you attach a tray to the bottom to catch the seeds that fall through the holes
Answer:	I don’t think so. But we have found that the Doves and other birds don’t mind eating the seeds that fall to the ground.

Answer:	Absolutely. They're determined. It took birds about 8 months to find the feeder and less than a month after that, the squirrel invasion. I almost did a spit take the first morning I found a squirrel folded up and chowing down in the feeder. Hazard of loving birds. I posted a video for your enjoyment. I don't hate squirrels, I just thought they would knock down the feeder with their weight, which hasn't happened yet.

Question:	I like the upside down concept but does the seed spoil and have to be thrown out every time it rains? Thistle seed is not cheap
Answer:	I've had this a while now. There's always a marble size clump of thistle stuck at the bottom after a really good rain. But that's true with all birdfeeders. You've got to clean them. I bang it out onto on old stump and it still gets eaten. I love that this is all metal and not flimsy. Plastic feeders aren't worth the money. This one is worth every penny.
Question:	Does anyone have problems with sparrows eating from this feeder
Answer:	I did and it was very frustrating because I have a No No cardinal feeder with safflower and the sparrows would try to eat there and most of the food went on the ground;, because sparrows don't really like safflower...and I have a main feeder for other birds mainly sparrows; they're chow hounds. The Stokes feeder (and I also bought the bigger one like this) was mainly for the goldfinches and the hogging sparrows kept the goldfinches away. I ended up buying the plastic one where finches eat upside down because sparrows can't do it. It needs a little more TLC and cleaned but at least the goldfinch's can get their nyger.
Question:	Can this be pole mounted or it has to hang
Answer:	It is a very small feeder that I do not think would work well on a pole...hangs nicely from a shepards hook. Very light weight so basically hangs easily anywhere.

Answer:	This is model 38194, with capacity 0.4 at. Including the cap, the feeder is about 9 inches tall. Tube diameter is about 2.25 inches. Diameter of the base is about 4.25 inches; the cap diameter is a bit more than 4.5 inches.

Answer:	This feeder is mostly for small birds. Mine attracts American goldfinch, black capped chickadees and red breasted nuthatch's. Some sparrows try to engage but have difficulty with the perch size and holes which I don't mind. I use 3-D Nut N' Berry bird food from Walmart which the small birds love. Feeder stays very busy year around. Tip: Secure the top with rubber bands so the so squirrels can't breach the top. Good Luck. Enjoy. Great feeder.
