User questions & answers
Question: | Does Traeger use flavored oils or real fruit wood in their blends |
Answer: | A perfect blend of oak, mesquite, and Pecan hardwoods that pairs perfectly with your favorite cut of beef Real wood pellets: Made from 100% all-natural hardwood with no binding agents or fillers Amazing wood-fired taste: Add pure hardwood flavor to everything you grill, smoke, bake, roast, braise and BBQ Made in America: sustainably Sourced and manufactured by Traeger in the USA |
Question: | Could these work in a masterbuilt electric smoker instead of using wood chips? would i have to soak them |
Answer: | Yes they work great, just don't soak them or it will turn to saw dust. I use them in all of my smokers. Electric, propane, and my wood smoker |
Question: | Are these 100% mesquite? Or is the mesquite blended with another hardwood |
Answer: | The Traeger Pellets are excellent, 100% hardwood, food grade pellets... And like nearly all quality food grade pellets are about 70% alder (or oak in the east) and 30% whatever flavor smoke wood it states on the package. The reasons for this are primarily consistent burn rate as well as production availability/expense. Lesser quality pellets run hot and cold rather than burning/smoking at predictable and therefore programmable rates. |
Question: | Can these pellets be used in a tube (like lizzq premium pellet smoker tube, a-maze-n smoking tube, etc |
Answer: | Yes. They work great. |

User questions & answers
Question: | If they are 2lbs bags how’s the total weight? of package 7.7lbs |
Answer: | Its a special air they use for shipping. It moleculalyr changes the total weight by just enough to not cause an intergalactic interference so as to not tilt the world during package prep and delivery. Hell, I'd say its a great value for the use of the special air since I don't have to capture it.... in all seriousness though, I'd simply say somebody rounded a number up and it doesn't matter though because these are great wood chips! |

User questions & answers
Question: | Are these 100% wood chips? Do they have any fillers |
Answer: | The temperature of the burner causes them to smoke... not 'lighting necessary'... I cook at about 220 to 230 degrees which is medium high on my burner. And yes, they would probably work in a roaster in the oven too... but you'd need them to be on the bottom of that pan, and then the meat elevated above them... plus on the stove-top smokers (I use the Nordic one) it has a vent on top that also creates a chimney effect to allow the smoke to circulate. |
Question: | Will these chips work with a handheld smoker like the polyscience smoking gun |
Answer: | Thanks for pointing this out. I'm fielding this as the remote nerd who created the listings but doesn't farm mushrooms. I have updated the content and it should be reflected within the next 24 hours. |
Question: | is it possible to buy just alder chips from this site |
Answer: | These pellets have been exposed to high temperatures for periods of time, but I would still recommend sterilization. |
Question: | Hello, do these start smoking by themselves or do you light them? Do you think they would work in a covered roaster in the oven |
Answer: | at 2" thick a 20lb bag would most likely cover a 2 x 2 foot thick section. once hydrated you might be able to stretch that to a 4 x4, but it will lose water and thin out. this really isn't optimal for a ground topper though. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is the wood from the USA or imported |
Answer: | I ordered just the "chips". I put them in a small 2" by 8" by 2" deep chip holder and do not soak. This is for fast grilling only (burgers, dogs or sausage). Turn the grill on high and they start to smoke within minutes. Lower the heat to the grill setting and cook away. The chips have smoked out within about 30 minutes. Today I'm grilling (smoking) a 5lb. pork roast. Using a slightly larger container, I will lightly soak the chips which will make them last a little over an hour. It really depends on your grill temp, but when I do add chips I do not soak them as I want to keep continuous smoke going. The Cherry Wood work very well. I hope this helps! |
Question: | Can these be used in an electric grill |
Answer: | Yes they can. |
Question: | Is this manufactured and packaged in the USA |
Answer: | Good question |
Question: | How long will these smoke for before adding |
Answer: | Our bags indicate 260 cubic inches. |

User questions & answers
Question: | are you good product |
Answer: | They can be used either Damp or Dry. They will last longer and produce more smoke if you soak them in water before using them. However, it will take a little longer for you to get smoke from them this way. If you are in more of a hurry, you can use some of them dry and some of them wet or damp. The dry chips will begin producing smoke sooner, but they will also "burn" up more quickly. Hope this helps! Rocky |
Question: | How to use with charcoal grill |
Answer: | Yes,these can be used in an electric smoker. I have an masterbuilt electric smoker and this specific type and brand is the one I use the most. |
Question: | Did you know you can buy them all at Walmart for about $6.00 total |
