The Worm Factory 360 uses worms to recycle kitchen scraps, paper waste, and cardboard into nutrient-rich compost, and is more efficient than a traditional backyard compost pile. Worm compost has been shown to have ten times the nutrients of traditionally produced compost.
The Worm Factory 360 is simple to set up and operate. It takes less than 15 minutes a week! To get started, add a handful of worms and your compostable waste to the bottom tray. The worms will start processing the food. Once the bottom tray is filled add another tray. The worms migrate upward to the newest food source leaving the bottom tray full of nutrient-rich compost. You can do this year-round inside or out, and harvest compost up to once a month! The finished compost can be used in your garden, your raised beds, or on houseplants.

User questions & answers
Question: | I live in san jose, ca and wonder if i could locate the worm factory outside? thank you in advance for answer |
Answer: | The answer about using an inch of shreded paper sounds good. Fly problems can start easily if the veg/fruit waste is exposed. Most people don't use enough bedding. I have found that covering everything with a layer of compost works great and could have some food value for the worms. I have a longer review dated 1/1/2013 that has some more info. |
Question: | The pic shows some other items besides the bin, what are they? Is it bedding? What do I need to prepare the bin |
Answer: | Red Wigglers are called compost worms. They feed on scraps buried in soil. Scraps buried prevent things like fruit flys. They also re-produce faster than nightcrawlers. Night Crawlers are top feeders. I would stick to using Night Crawlers for fish bait. |
Question: | Does it come with worms? And it boasts expandable to 8 trays, are those 4 extra something I have to buy separate? Thanks guys |
Answer: | To begin with, we suggest starting with 1000 pcs or 1 lbs of red worms. Please feel free to let us know if you have more questions. Thanks. |
Question: | I have seen this asked in other ways but never answered clearly: what is the capacity of a tray? I’m asking for volume. Gallons/liters |
Answer: | The VermiHut Plus version is a new model. It was designed to have many new features which helps to have successful worm composting. See the new features below. You don't need to use all the five trays at once. VermiHut Plus Major Improvements and New Features: 1. The shape is square but with large round corners. Therefore, it is more durable than the classic VermiHut; 2. The base is one piece including the liquid collection tray while the classic VermiHut base is composed of three pieces: a piece of pedestal base tray, a holding tray and a liquid collection tray. The VermiHut Plus does not require bolts/nuts assembling; 3. There is a recess on the spigot hole for placing the spigot rubber piece to prevent incorrect spigot installation, which eliminates leakage; 4. A cup is provided for worm tea collection; 5. A set of Ant-Trappers is included to prevent ants invading the system; 6. A piece of worm-saving tray or M-Board is included to prevent worms and bedding debris dropping to the liquid. Worms could climb back to the working tray from the worm-saving tray; 7. The working tray is designed shorter and wider than the classic VermiHut working tray to maintain the same volume. The benefits of the shorter/wider design are to provide less pressure to the worm bedding and more air-flow area. 8. The working tray is designed to be able to nest more during shipping to save shipping cost. 9. The air-vented lid comes with two pieces of additional parts: a piece of clear plastic called “V-Board” and a piece of coconut fiber mat. Users can use the clear V-Board alone for various scenarios described in the manual. The coconut fiber mat can minimize the fruit fliers and absorb the already trace odor. |

Question: | Can I put 5 lb of European nightcrawlers in it |
Answer: | Uncle Jim’s Worm Farm; https://unclejimswormfarm.com/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI_NPH99nT5AIVVeDICh029QueEAAYASAAEgJFHfD_BwE They have the best service & healthy worms, by far! |
Question: | Where does one purchase worms |
Answer: | Yes, you touch them when you take them out to use the compost they have made. |
Question: | With this design, do you ever have to touch the worms |
Answer: | It is great if you are limited on space, don't have that much to compost or only need some worm tea or a cup of compost at a time. It works great for me. The description gives the dimensions so low ratings due to size are on the buyer not the seller. |
Question: | All the low stars are about the size. But how has it been for those that use it? Recommend |
Answer: | Hello, That is the normal operation of the BB-70. Your in-home water pressure will determine when the water pressure is strong enough to activate the bidet. Some water pressures may start the bidet sooner than the 3rd selection, but most in-home water pressures will activate on the 3rd selection. User questions & answers
Question: | Where are the air holes, and is the whole unit insect proof? (I keep my worms in the kitchen and sometimes small flies are attracted inside |
Answer: | Depends on what kind of worm. Red wiggle, I would say 500, night crawlers 250. |
Question: | How many worms can live in this bin |
Answer: | Hi Margaret, The Urban Worm Bag is manufactured in China and imported to the US. But never fear, I worked very closely with the engineers over there and they actually ensured that I ended up with an even higher quality product than I anticipated. Thanks for the question! |
Question: | How do you collect the worm tea without spilling liquid all over the place |
Answer: | I live in Sacramento CA our Summers are 100+ with about 1-2 weeks out of the summer hitting 110-115. My Worm bag performed great throughout the summer. I suspect it is due to the size of the bag, and the temperature is cooler towards the center of the bag contents(My bag is nearly full). I believe you may have problems if your bag is mostly empty, or you're just starting, as there isn't as much of a temperature gradient for the worms to escape the heat. To combat this on the super hot days, Put a couple of 2-liter bottles of water in the freezer and put them on top of the castings on the hottest part of the day. But if you have a large quantity of castings already, you should be fine as the worms will migrate to cooler sections of the bag. |
Question: | Does it come with a starting kit, or is it just the bin |
Answer: | I have been vermicomposting for over ten years and I (for some reason unknown to me) love it. Worms eat my garbage. I think you might pull that off and here is how. Start by putting a layer of paper in the bottom, used coffee filters, shredded toilet paper tubes, or shred the box it comes in. This is how I will start mine. Then if you want to, cover that with vermicompost that I guesse you will purchase. Generally that will cost you about $1.00-$3.00 a pound not including shipping. There is no such thing as 100% pure vermicompost, I still can't tell the difference between a coffee ground and a worm turd. Next, add some kitchen scraps enough to cover the middle of the bag. Add some more of the VC to cover that and let that sit for a week. Pour water over that and have a pan or bucket underneath at all times. Add a pound of red wigglers, thet cost about $35.00 a pound including shipping and only buy from a vendor that offers a live delivery guarantee. Cover that with loose shredded bedding, like the rest of the box it came in. Contact the seller about joining the facebook group and have fun. I have been enjoying this hobby for a while and there is a learning curve. I have had a lot of fun and have made several friends world wide. Yours Truly, Mark from Kansas |

User questions & answers
Question: | I have bought three of these and the legs have broken on them . i only need the bo piece cause i have more than plenty trays. can i get the bottom |
Answer: | Had mine in my covered breezeway earlier this year when it was warm & had no problems with critters getting into it. Put a large brick on the top to be sure. Of course, where I live is fairly urban with mostly just squirrels & opossums running around. If you want to have it outside & are worried about critters getting into it, I would suggest using straps or bungee cords to secure the lid down. That should keep them out unless they take a mind to gnaw through them. |
Question: | Are extra trays available |
Answer: | It depends on the species of worms. In particular African nightcrawlers are highly recommended for warmer climates, they thrive in temperatures ranging from 70f-90f. I would suggest nothing hotter than 90F. Also, take in consideration that having your worm factory outside makes it susceptible to predators and critters. It is very easy to get into, I had a problem with squirrels. Hope that helps, best of luck to you! |
Question: | What is the recommended quantity of worms one should purchase to go in this particular composter |
Answer: | They include everything you need for bedding, but in my experience, extra soil from your yard/somewhere outdoors (containing helpful microbes), and extra newspapers were essential. Also, getting a spray bottle filled with water is great to have to keep the bedding moist. Good luck! |
Question: | What are the dimensions of each tray |
Answer: | No worms and comes with 4 trays, the additional trays need to purchased seperately. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is each tray 16.5 x 16.5 X 12.5 inches |
Answer: | I put gallon and 1/2 of dirt and full it with food to the second tray. And second tray takes about 2 gallons of food if not more . My worms eat alot. |
Question: | What is the height and width of the complete five-tray hut all put together |
Answer: | Hi Ruby,You are not getting compost soil you are getting highly concentrated worm castings every 2-4 months in addition to the worm liquid. You just need to sprinkle a small amount of castings around your plants and veg it is so nutrient rich.Cheers |
Question: | Anyone live in the pacific northwest keep this worm farm outdoors? do the red wrigglers survive? thanks |
Answer: | Hi Carmen, Using existing compost and or a working worm farm to start a hungry bin is the best thing. This is because the bedding already has all the ecosystem established already, and the worm population will include adults, juveniles, cocoons so will establish a working population much faster. I suggest that you fill the bin 2/3rds to 3/4s full with a bedding like compost or potting mix, moisten it, and then add the worm population or compost you have until the bin is full. Over the first week, the material you have started the bin with will compact, and the worms you started the bin will move upwards toward the surface. The worms you have in your compost will be absolutely fine to start the hungry bin with, and will co-exist with any of the other worms in the bin. Adding red wigglers to the bin to boost the population will be no problem at all, all the different species of worm in the bin seem to all get along ok. The only thing to watch for is large numbers of pot worms (Enchytraeidae) which can signify the bin is getting a little acidic or rich if you see them in large numbers. The instructions that come with the bin are very comprehensive, and cover all these questions. You can also contact Greentools if you have any questions, they are very professional and great at helping customers that have questions. I hope this helps, Ben. |
Question: | How is the compost separated from the worms? This has always been a problem for me because I always seem to have lots of worms left in the compost |
Answer: | Hello, I have had my Hungry bin for approximately 3 years and when you remove the bottom tray, the contents of the bin do not all fall out. The design features of the bin ensures this does not happen. When I empty the castings, ususally every 3 months, I place a tray or bucket under there just in case I need to catch any small bits of compost and/or liquid fertiliser that comes away. Hope that helps, you can always contact the company directly, if you have any more technical questions! |

User questions & answers
Question: | can this also be used to raise worms for fishing |
Answer: | I'm afraid not, JO! The Urban Worm Bag should really be kept indoors if at all possible and certainly protected from direct sunlight and rain if you have to keep it outside. As the Bag is fabric, I believe it would be too vulnerable to critters, especially bigger ones. |
Question: | What's a worm ladder |
Answer: | All Worm Factories have a 5 year warranty on manufacturing defects. Since we just launched the Basic this year, you a definitely covered. Please reach out to us about a replacement. We also have replacement parts for sale at naturesfootprint.com |
Question: | How many worms will this hold |
Answer: | The kit I purchased has 3 trays. Which seems plenty for my needs. You may be able to purchase more from the manufacturer or maybe from other sites that specialize in worm farms. |
Question: | Is the plastic food grade or bpa free |
Answer: | We typically recommend starting with 1 lb (approx 1000 worms) but a system can easily be started with 1/2 or even 1/4 lb, it just takes longer for the colony to establish and you have to be careful not to overfeed initially. There is currently a national shortage of worms due to many factors, including large farms shutting down and increased demand, but we are still able to source them. Check out naturesfootprint.com or look for our listing here on Amazon |

User questions & answers
Question: | where is this manufactured |
Answer: | When the worms are finished compostiing one tray, add a tray on top of that with fresh bedding and food. Wait a few weeks and the worms should all move up. Wait an additional couple months if you want to allow the cocoons to all hatch and the baby worms to move up also. This is why the buns are designed with multiple trays. The worms will naturally follow the food up. Red wigglers are surface feeders and wont dive deep for food. |
Question: | Question for the seller- would the worms do ok in a non-air-conditioned Florida garage? It gets very hot. Thanks |
Answer: | Do you eat a lot of fresh fruits & vegetables daily and have lots of trimmings for the worms ? And / Or size of your family ? |
Question: | Will worm castings sold in a bag work for "starting with vermicomopost"? How much does starting with vermicompost speed up the process |
Answer: | Yes you can. The soil will help to add some grit & microbiology to the bedding. And once the roots begin to break down, they will serve as food for the worms. |
Question: | Rat, raccoon and coyote-proof |
Answer: | I would try looking in the plumbing section of your local hardware store to see if they may carry a metal or plastic spigot with a diameter the same size as the one you need to replace. Thinking they will have something similar since it is probably a standard size part. It just needs to be the same size as the hole drilled into the water collection section of the bin with a matching rubber washer and nut. |
Product features
The Urban Worm Bag Version 2
Welcome to the new gold standard in home vermicomposting. The Urban Worm Bag Version 2 turns your household waste into worm castings, a microbe-rich organic soil amendment used in gardening and indoor growing.
What is Continuous Flow?
Composting worms tend to stay in the top 6-8 inches of their habitat.
So as you add layers of fresh household waste like food scraps, the worms will move higher, leaving their castings below.
So after 4-6 months, you can harvest worm-free castings without disturbing the ecosystem of worms and microbes that are hard at work at the top of the Urban Worm Bag.
Is Worm Composting Easy?
Yes! If you keep the temperature between 55-95°F, keep moisture to a level where the Urban Worm Bag is not producing leachate, and keep good levels of carbon-rich bedding like paper waste, you are likely to have a thriving worm bin.
Lots of people overthink it. But your bin will benefit by being fed and otherwise left alone!
This Is Not Ikea Furniture!
Your Urban Worm Bag will be assembled in less than 5 minutes.
- Build the base
- Insert the vertical supports
- Insert the supports into the Urban Worm Bag
- Press it all together
You're done.
Learn What to Feed!
Worms will generally eat any non-meat, non-dairy organic waste. But it's helpful to know what foods they love, what foods they don't and what foods you should only add small amounts of.
Keep Your Bedding Levels High
Worms love food waste, but they also need high amounts of carbon-rich waste like shredded paper and cardboard which are abundant in most homes! Lots of bedding will ensure:
- good moisture control
- controlled, good smelling decomposition
- a neutral pH
Keep It On a Level Surface
The Urban Worm Bag has new, reinforced connectors but it's important that the frame rests on a flat, level surface.
So. Many. Benefits.
Worm castings are 15x more valuable than compost, thanks to increased plants growth and yield, less water use, protection against pests and pathogens, faster germination, and huge biodiversity inside the bin.
Worm castings require no curing and can be used on your plants immediately.
Raise Them Right!
Our youth can lead the way to a sustainable future. And a home worm farm can excite your kids about worm composting and they'll be thrilled to see last night's dinner waste get eaten by their worms.
It's like having pets that do work for you!
Complete the Cycle
Even in urban environments, you can complete the Soil Food Web cycle. Recycle the food scraps generated by food preparation and turn that waste into food for your soil.

Answer: | I'm not sure how they would fare in a farm like this. Red wigglers are the best composting worms, and will move through the layers easily. I don't know if the nightcrawlers can fit through the small holes. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does it need to sit in sunlight |
Answer: | It should sit in the sun. The heat from the sun helps break down the compost. |
Question: | Does this have drainage |
Answer: | It doesn't have true "drainage," but it is not air tight. When I add water from time to time, it does leak a bit. |
Question: | would bears be able to get into this |
Answer: | I would say yes. It's sturdy enough to handle the compost, but a decent sized bear would probably be able to break it apart. |
Question: | How do you dump the compost out of the bin |
Answer: | open the sliding door, put a tub under it and rotate until it begins to dump out |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does it smell |
Answer: | Good question! Thumbs up to you. |
Question: | What if you covered the whole thing up. And only peeped in to see daily. Would the worms be good then |
Answer: | There are no eggs or soil. This product is used to demo composting and how fast items biodegrade. Each compartment has a thermometer to check the heat produced in the decomposition process. We use this in an elementary school garden club and place various items in the compartments and observe them. We added our own garden soil. |
Question: | Does this come with the worms (or worm "eggs") and the bedding material (e.g. soil |
Answer: | Red Wigglers are the worms most commonly used to compost, and the red wigglers hate light, so they would not be the most efficent in this container. Yet I am a huge fan of this product and would throughly encourage any parent to buy this for their child. |
Question: | Is this to place worms in, and if so, what type |
Answer: | Mine seem to be dying right now. I am hoping some will "hibernate" in the middle of my worm farm but I am not a worm specialist. In any case, I would not buy worms in the winter to add to a composter if you live in a region with snow/freezing temperatures. They will be fine up to 45-50F. Another solution is to bring your composter inside. |

Question: | What are the assembled dimensions, especially width and depth (not height |
Answer: | The tumbleweed blanket is sold separately. I tried purchasing one, but since this product is made in Australia, they don't have the worm blanket available here in the States. I tried looking at other companies for this item but had no luck. What I am doing is using a couple of moistened sheets of newsprint from my Sunday paper. I lay them over the top of the scraps like a blanket, and the worms are very happy. Eventually, they will eat through the newsprint. At that point, I just add a new sheet of newsprint. I use a spray bottle to keep everything moist. |
Question: | Is The tumbleweed blanket sold separately, if not my worm farm is missing it.Please let me know |
Answer: | No, it doesn't smell. Our science product manager just used this item recently with her children. They decomposed an apple, a lemon and a flour tortilla. They left it to rot inside the house for several months; there was no smell and there were no flies. |
