User questions & answers
Question: | My led will only come out very little at a time and I have to use it till its gone to get more out. Am I doing something wrong |
Answer: | I believe it’s suppose to come out a little out at a time. If it’s a small piece left you can just pull the lead out and have a fresh new one. 🤷🏻♂️ |
Question: | Does this pencil have the shake method to let lead out |
Answer: | Yes |
Question: | What eraser does this use, size or type |
Answer: | I wish I could take pictures of the ones I found that fit... well Daiso has this battery powered eraser that comes with erasers and those are really inexpensive like a $2.00. Also Amazon sells these Pilot MS-10 That fit but are expensive like $10.00, rediculous. I recommend just going to Office-Max and getting the Staedtler hand held (old school chalkholder ) eraser and buy the Stardtler Mars Plastic 528 55 refills they erase BEAUTIFULLY and don't tear paper!! Hope this information helps. 🤞😀 |
Question: | How do you disassemble the pencil to put stickers under the clear cover |
Answer: | Twist the tip of the pen to unscrew it, then without breaking the lead, take off the plastic ring. From now the grip should just slide off. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can I use normal leads (0.7mm) when colored ones are finished? Can I use it as normal pencil but not colored one |
Answer: | Yes. You can use them as regular pencils. They merely take 0.7mm lead. |
Question: | The product contains 1 pencil or |
Answer: | This product contains all 8 pencils pictured. There is a purple, darker blue, light blue, green. yellow. orange, pink, and red. I think the yellow is a bit light colored for white paper, but the rest work fine even on white. The yellow works well on darker colored papers. It is not bright enough on typical book paper to use as a highlighter. The rest work fine for detailed highlighting and just general purpose highlighting as well as writing and drawing. I have been very pleased with this set. It is difficult to get the leads though, but they come with three per pencil which lasts for quite a while. The leads can be ordered in packs of 10 of each color. The problem is you need to order all 8 leads as a set. I usually use the green and red far more than the rest so I am starting to develop a collection of the rest of the colors. |
Question: | Do they come with lead in them |
Answer: | Yes. They come with lead in but a few. |
Question: | are they erasable |
Answer: | They are erasable if you have not written too hard. Otherwise, a faint mark may be left. However, I really like them because they do work well enough for sketching and even school work. |
- Pack of 6
- Contoured rubber grips for writing comfort
- 0.7mm HB lead
- Retractable and refillable - Pilot mechanical pencil lead refills sold separately
User questions & answers
Question: | what is the link to order erasers and lead |
Answer: | Lead is ENO-G .07 HB Pilot. Erasers are Pilot 5 Erasers + 2 needles (they are in a very small green box) |
Question: | Is the lead that comes in them originally |
Answer: | I don't know. the only markings say G-2 07. the refills add 'high purity graphite, 60mm. These are the best mechanical pencils I've every used. I have arthritis and the lead glide so smoothly that I can use them for extended time periods with experiencing any discomfort. The also last forever or seem so. I bought lead refills and eraser refills when I purchased them several year ago and I've only used one of each. |
Question: | Is this lead dark? Like a #2 pencil would be |
Answer: | Yes, exactly like a #2 lead pencil. |
Question: | How do you replace eraser or leads? I've not been able to access |
Answer: | You simply pull the eraser out and slide the new lead in the back of the pencil and re install the eraser. Hope this helps. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is it all plastic or there are some metal parts |
Answer: | Only the chrome tip part is metal, the rest is plastic. I had my other for 4 years and use it everyday with no issues. This was a back up. |
Question: | Has the quality declined on these from the ones I had in the 90's |
Answer: | If what you were using were the Papermate PhD pencils, these are as close as you can come to those. These are well made and I have used the same one for over a year. The differences between the Papermate and the Pilot products are basically Three. ONE: The eraser - In the Papermate product the eraser was exposed on top and was much broader than the Pilot pencil that has smaller diameter eraser that has a cover that has to be removed to use. TWO-The barrel. The small barrel from which the lead actually exits is different between these two pencils. On the Papermate PhD pencil, the small diameter barrel retracts into the body of the pencil. On the Pilot product is does not and stays sticking out where it can poke you at most inconvenient times an in inconvenient places. THREE: The grip. The grip on both of these pencils is padded and reasonably large. The Pilot pencil has a slightly larger in diameter grip than the Papermate PhD. The Pilot grip is cylindrical whereas the Papermate grip is somewhat triangular so that it does not slip in your fingers. Personally I preferred the Papermate product but that is no longer available. The Pilot product is the best I can find out there at the moment and is of good quality. |
Question: | What eraser refill do I need? Can anyone send a link or the exact thing to search for |
Answer: | Here is the link for the eraser refills.https://www.amazon.com/Pilot-70001-MS-10-Eraser-Refill/dp/B002ZZ5HWY/ref=sr_1_1?s=office-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1491581264&sr=1-1&keywords=pilot+eraser+refill+MS-10If there is anything else, please let us know. Thanks,Monique |
Question: | Is this item a shaker pencil? There are two versions, however they don't distinguish the difference between the limited and the normal one |
Answer: | All of the Dr. Grips I have purchased in the past 6 years have been shaker pencils. However, you can open the pencil and remove the barrel that makes it a shaker if you don't want that feature. |

Question: | Is there no 0.5mm ink refill for this pen? All I can find is 0.7mm |

Question: | Is the grip hard or soft |
Answer: | It is a soft gel sleeve but metal under. I love this pen and have many |
Question: | Why is the pencil not working? I did push the clip down to reveal the barrel then pushed it few more times to make the lead comeout but still nothing |
Answer: | See the other answers on the pencil. Click a second time harder to push the lead out. You have to get a feel for it. Took me a while to get it. |
Question: | How does the pencil work? Is the lead refillable? I cannot seem to get the led to come out |
Answer: | Click with the clip. Once the pencil point is out, click again a little harder to push the lead out. Took me a few tries to get the feel of it. There is also refill lead in the cartridge. Once you figure it out it’s easy |

User questions & answers
Question: | It says "1 pack"... how many in a pack |
Answer: | this listing is for 1 pencil |
Question: | Is the Japan version still available |
Answer: | I am unaware of any other version as I've only been using the Shaker for a couple years. |
Question: | There have been two versions of this pencil--is the image shown the exact version of this pencil sent |
Answer: | Yes, at least it was in 2015. I have the old version and this one from 2015. The plastic on the new version feels a little bit less sturdy than the old one. |
Question: | Does it have a sliding sleeve that fully retracts |
Answer: | There is a sleeve that supports the very thin lead 0.5 mm. It is out when using the pencil to write. It does slide back in with the lead. I usually push the top, and then push the lead and sleeve back up into the tip. It does not retract by itself. I suppose I could leave it sticking out, but it would poke holes in my shirt pocket. |

User questions & answers
Question: | If one uses these to mark 'sewing patterns' on fabric, will the polymer lead wash out/off in the normal laundry |
Answer: | I don't think this would be good for marking sewing patterns. The lead is so fine it breaks constantly while writing on paper. Would not recommend for any purchase |
Question: | Is the green a dark kelly green or a light lime green |
Answer: | It's much closer to a Kelly green but not quite as yellow. About halfway between Kelly and Crayola green. |
Question: | Is this listing for 4 pencils and 4 sets of lead, or just the lead? Thanks |
Answer: | This is 4 pencils and 4 leads of set. |
Question: | Does each pencil have an eraser? Does the lead erase well? ... or smudge, smear, and remain |
Answer: | Each pencil has an eraser however I recommend using a stand alone eraser. The "lead" doesn't smear, it is just difficult to erase. It is still the best colored leads I have found and I will DEFINATELY keep them in stock. I am drafter by trade and use these daily in my: red means add, green means delete, blue means notes - world |

User questions & answers
Question: | what is the eraser refill would you get for it |
Answer: | Looks like it will take the regular ones like this one here: https://www.amazon.com/PILOT-70001-Eraser-Refills-PIL70001/dp/B004UND0NMThey are the same size eraser as the domestically purchased DrGrip. |
Question: | Does this pencil have an eraser attached to it |
Answer: | Yes |
Question: | does this pen have a lock when i dont want the led to come out in my bag |
Answer: | No.It will not fall out. Make sure you use the right size lead |
Question: | What is the difference between these japanese ones and the pilot center of gravity ones in english |
Answer: | I have not tried the gravity pencil so, just from photos, I can tell you that the gravity pencil looks like it has a metal clip while the frosted grip has a plastic clip. You would think this wouldn't be a deal-breaker but it's annoying and makes the frosted grip feel less sturdy. On that alone, I would get the gravity pencil over this specific frosted grip. Reading some reviews of the gravity pencil, it doesn't appear to be that big of a difference between it and a regular grip so you should be fine. Just avoid this specific frosted grip. It is my least favorite of the grips (I have like 5, all different) and is more for looks than to be the workhorse the grip series is intended to be. |

Question: | Does this come with lead |
Answer: | Yes it does come with lead - I can't tell you how much. I've also purchased additional lead - my preference is 2B - this is 0.7mm lead. I use the Dr. Grip every day and love it. I'm probably on my 3rd one. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this a shaky pencil(when you shake it does the lead come out |
Answer: | No.. you click on the top of the pencil to extend more lead. |
Question: | How do you replace leads in a dr grip center of gravity pencil |
Answer: | At the very bottom of the pencil where the lead comes out, take the new lead and feed it into the pencil as you continuously press the top of the pencil. Think of it in reverse order when you want the lead to come out you pump the top of the pencil so that the lead moves forward, in this case you would feed the lead into the pencil as you press the top of the pencil. Hope that helps... |
Question: | How do you add more lead |
Answer: | Uh.. same as any mechanical pencil, u push the end of the pen, hold it down, and gently load the new lead into the tip |
