13 best corded home phones
Corded home phones, also known as landline phones, are traditional telecommunication devices that connect to a telephone line using a physical cord. These phones have been a standard fixture in households and offices for many years. Here are some key points related to corded home phones:
Basic Components:
- Corded home phones typically consist of a handset, a base unit, and a coiled cord connecting the two.
Landline Connection:
- These phones are designed to work with traditional landline telephone services provided by telecommunications companies.
Reliability:
- Corded phones are known for their reliability, as they are not dependent on electricity and continue to work during power outages, assuming the landline service is still operational.
Sound Quality:
- Corded phones often provide clear and consistent sound quality, making them suitable for important or sensitive conversations.
No Need for Batteries:

Variety of Models:
- Corded home phones come in various models, including basic models with standard features and more advanced models with additional functions such as caller ID, speakerphone capabilities, and voicemail integration.
Caller ID and Call Waiting:
- Many modern corded phones are equipped with features like caller ID, allowing users to see the incoming caller's number, and call waiting, alerting users to an incoming call while they are on another call.
Speakerphone Functionality:
- Some corded phones have built-in speakerphone functionality, enabling hands-free communication.
Keypad and Dialing:
- Corded phones typically have a standard numeric keypad for dialing numbers, and some models may include additional buttons for features like redial and speed dial.
Wall-Mountable or Desktop:
- Corded phones are often designed to be either wall-mounted or placed on a desktop, providing flexibility in placement.
Integration with Other Devices:
- Some corded phones may have ports for connecting accessories such as headsets or additional handsets.
Emergency Services:
- Corded phones are recommended for emergency situations, as they can be easily traced to a specific location by emergency services when used with a landline.
While corded home phones have seen a decline in usage with the rise of mobile phones and wireless communication, they continue to be a reliable and secure option for communication, particularly in areas with stable landline infrastructure.

User questions & answers
Question: | Can you shut the ringer off |
Answer: | Is the ringer on the base or the handset? |
Question: | Does this phone work with AT&T connection only or could we use this phone with any connection |
Answer: | A phone is a phone, doesn't matter who your landline service is. Even a home VOIP service from a cable company transforms to analog in the home. The only phone system this wouldn't work with is a digital PBX system used in businesses. Those use specific IP phones. |
Question: | How long is the coiled handset cord. I'm returning a phone now because the cord was just too short |
Answer: | The cord is only 7 ft. You can order a 25ft cord RCA 25 feet Handset Coil Cord, White (TP282W) for $ 5.40 on Amazon to make it longer. I hope this response helped. Have a great day. |
Question: | does it work when the electricity goes off |
Answer: | Yes this works without batteries and with out external electricity source when plugged into a traditional telephone landline service. Digital Phone like xfinity or At&t U-Verse may not work in a power outage because the phone line will be powered by a cable modem/router which gets it's power from your 120vac wall outlet. I bought a UPS battery backup formy cable modem and PC so they stay powered on for up to 60 min on a power outage. Assuming the cable provider still has electricity and their servers and internet don't go down, you should still have phone service. Even cellular companies can lose electricity causing an phone outage. Historically Old fashioned landline has been the most reliable in power outages. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is it hands free |
Answer: | yes, there is a redial button on the face of the phone. Just pick up the handset, press that button, and it will dial out to the last called number. |
Question: | will this phone work with a digital phone signal from a cable/internet/phone company, or does it need to be a wired landline |
Answer: | We have used this phone for two months and find the sound quality for both the hand set and speaker to be excellent. Ease of use is also excellent. |
Question: | I wish to program each number with a family member for my grandmother, will she have to push photocall than the number to dial the family member |
Answer: | I just gave this phone to my elderly mother who has hearing, sight and dementia issues. She LOVES it! You can use the key pad to dial a number with or without the 6 preset speed dials being programmed. It is a little time consumer to find and size photos to a 1"x1" size but it does make the phone very easy to use. |
Question: | can the 911 key be turned off? mom has dementia and would call 911 constantly when using the phone |
Answer: | You described the programming procedure correctly, so it should be saving the number and dialing out when you press the photo button. If it's not doing that, let us know and we will get this resolved. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can the landline phone be mounted to the wall and if so, how many inches does it stick out from the wall |
Answer: | We have not had an outage since I have owned this, but since it is a land-line phone I assume the phone will work on the old type phone lines, but maybe not the answering unit. (This is why some keep a landline phone for another kind of security.) I am definitely not a techie so double check this. |
Question: | Does the base unit have to be plugged in for caller id |
Answer: | The remote handset no but has speaker phone. The base has the plug in handset which can be removed so I am assuming a headset jack that can answer and hang up the phone may work |
Question: | Does this come with the charger adapter that plugs into an outlet |
Answer: | I don't see one on the base or hands-free sets. |
Question: | Corded base works during a power failure |
Answer: | I can confirm, except for the cordless handset, yes, it does! We don't have reliable power in the deep cold of winter or the hottest times in summer, which is why we always keep a landline. It won't work if your phones company is cable, however. Nor will you see the displays when the electric goes out but, this type of phone is essential for potential emergencies. |

Answer: | Only have had the phone since June 2013 and have not replaced any batteries. |
Question: | When calling somebody, the person on the other line can not hear anything. Is this because a DSL filter is needed or do I have a defective product |
Answer: | The DSL filter allows you to use the phone on the same line as a computer. The person on the end of the line should be able to hear you with or without the filter as long as the call went through. Check to see if the Mute button has been inadvertently pressed. It lights up red at the lower left side of your phone. When it's on, the person you're talking to can't hear you. If that's not it, you can call Customer Servive at (800) 222-3111 or go to www.telephones.att.com. Hope this helped. |
Question: | can you plug up a headset |
Answer: | Yes, via the handset jack on the phone base. Note the handset extension cord in "bought together", also check instruction manual and you'll see that the handset cord is a separate piece. But, note Micubed1's comment. This does NOT have a 2.5 mm jack. You need to use a headset with amplifier that plugs into the handset jack (RJ11). Jabra is an example. |
Question: | Why does it need batteries? Doesn't the wall jack supply all the power it needs |
Answer: | It needs batteries to power the caller ID display. It only has to plug into the phone jack & doesn't require an electrical outlet (one of the reasons I picked this set). We're extremely pleased with this phone! |

Question: | Does this phone work on touchtone only |
Answer: | Correct, phone works on touchtone lines, not pulse or rotary lines... |
Question: | I bought this phone for my mother who lives in another state. She said that the instructions say "to call your carrier". Please tell me why |
Answer: | The term "Carrier" refers to your local telephone company that installs live phone jacks in your home. If however, you already have live phone jacks installed, there is no need to call them. |
Question: | Does this phone have a volume control that can be set loudly so the hearing impaired owner can hear it ring |
Answer: | There is a light on it that flashes when ringing. It is loud but I have heard louder rings. Sorry I don't recall it having an adjustable ringer. My Mom has hearing issues and she can hear it. Good luck. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Call directory? Contacts/Phone number memory |
Answer: | No. It does not have a headset jack. |
Question: | does this have speaker phone |
Answer: | Yes. it works very well in 220v 60Hz. I have used in this condition. I measured output volt for this adapter in two case( etc. 220v and 110v). The output volt was same at 5v. |
Question: | Can the ringer be turned off? I want to put this phone in a room where my baby takes her nap and do not want it to ring and wake her up |
Answer: | While the unit is a two extension system, you can add additional extensions. I purchased two of these 2 extension systems and paired all 4 of the extensions off of one base with the extra base acting as a charger only. The extensions display the numbers "1", "2", "3" and "4" and all work with all features. Just make sure you pair them all to only one base. I purchased two sets rather than expansion handsets because it was more cost effective. |
Question: | Does this phone have a plug for a headset |
Answer: | I arrived at this product from a DELIBERATELY MISLEADING web page (http://www.sheknows.com/best-reviews/cordless-phone-with-headset-jack) listing products "with headset jack" ... these that exist only to inject someone's Amazon affiliate ID onto things. AMAZON if you're listening... perhaps you'll want to CANCEL referrer #29268574. |
