User questions & answers
Question: | Does it come as it is seen (Brand New in pack |
Answer: | Mine did. New condition even the packaging was new. Better shape than some stores even. |
Question: | Pv=70,000 annual interest 5% number of monthly payments 240 monthly payment is calculated to be 350 not correct what am i doing wrong |
Answer: | Is interest rate nominal? If so, the effective rate to enter for I/Y is (.05/12)x100... if it’s annual effective rate, I/Y=(1.05^(1/12)-1)x100. Enter -70000 as PV and n as 240 and the appropriate I/Y and see what you get when you compute PMT. :-) |
Question: | does this have a carrying case |
Answer: | Not a carrying case, but it has a hard slip cover that goes on the front of the unit to protect the display area and the buttons. Thanks. |
Question: | Anyone knows how long does the battery lasts |
Answer: | Could go as long as 10 years. 5 years with heavy use is a good estimate |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this product come with the carrying case |
Answer: | Yes. A nice semi-hard case with a spot for business card |
Question: | Does this one have a Black keyboard background or a silver one on what is delivered by Amazon |
Answer: | The HP 12CP is the Platnium edition - (that's what the P stands for). The shipped product looks exactly as it is displayed on the product page. Except for the buttons and the silver panel on the top 3rd of the calculator (around the display) the background is black. I have mine in my hand right now and it looks identical to the picture you see on the product page. |
Question: | Where was the calculator built? 12C's built in the US seem to have much better build quality and reliability than the ones built in China |
Answer: | The 12C that I have has the letters "CHN 700****" on a tab located on the back of the calculator. I assume that means China. Regardless, I bought this calculator in 2005 and have literally used it multiple times everyday...probably 10,000 times. It continues to work perfectly. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is the display dimmer than the older HP 12c |
Answer: | I think it's actually a little brighter. I'd suggest looking at one at Office Depot or Staples first. See what you think of the display. |
Question: | Where can I buy the batteries for this calculator |
Answer: | Ok; batteries: FYI: with moderate use, my batteries last 3-4 years. Three solutions: 1) Open battery compartment on back of 12C; get battery model-number; buy them on the web (if memory serves, I think they’re about $5/ea) 2) my medium-sized City (Melbourne, FL) actually had a battery store that sells a couple thousand(?) models of batteries. 3) I would guess most iPhone repair stores would sell that size battery (obviously, call first) |
Question: | Is there a difference between the hp12c & hp12 plantinum |
Answer: | no! The Platinum always displays "RPN", and the older versions do not. I have used these for more than 20 years, and the Platinum is a "DO NOT BUY" because of this feature... Everyone knows the calculator is "RPN", nobody needs it on the display all the time. |
Question: | Are these original, hp manufactured, new products? reason i ask is the list price is incorrect ($79.99 at hp) and all the problems with keys |
Answer: | I have never had any particular issue with the keys, and I have had multiple HP12Cs since they were introduced in the mid 1970s (as far as I can remember...). The one that I received was new and it, too, has no key issues to report. I will say that, over the years, with each new 12C, the touch was slightly different, but I got used to it quickly. |
