13 best ahead drum sticks
Drumsticks are a critical component of a drummer's toolkit, and their choice can significantly impact the sound produced. Here are some general considerations for drumsticks:
Material: Drumsticks are commonly made from wood, with hickory and maple being popular choices due to their durability and flexibility. Some drumsticks are also made from synthetic materials for specific characteristics.
Tip Shape: The tip of the drumstick comes in various shapes, such as acorn, barrel, oval, or round. Each shape produces a slightly different sound and is suitable for different playing styles.
Size and Weight: Drumsticks come in various sizes, indicated by numbers. For example, a 5A stick is a common choice, providing a balance of weight and size. Heavier sticks may produce a louder sound, while lighter sticks can enhance speed and control.
Grip: Some drumsticks have additional grip features, such as a coating or texture, to improve the drummer's hold and reduce slipping.
Brand: Different brands produce drumsticks with varying characteristics. Drummers often develop preferences for specific brands based on personal playing style and comfort.

User questions & answers
Question: | Are these really that durable? I have a friend whos a really heavy hitter and breaks wooden sticks within the first 20 minutes |
Answer: | Yes, they really are that durable. I swear by them and no longer use wooden sticks. That said, stick technique is important. Three tips for Ahead users: 1) Use a more glancing strike on cymbals; avoid striking with the sticks perpendicular to the cymbal, 2) No rimshots--EVER, 3) Keep the sticks warm; if they feel cold to the touch, they're too cold. The metal can get brittle and be prone to breaking. In a pinch, you can sit on them to warm them up.Using those tips, I've kept the same 2 pair for over a year, just replacing the tips and sleeves. See Ahead's website for more details. |
Question: | Is it metal |
Answer: | I started playing at age 9 - I am now 60 - I have used just about every stick out there - Once I tried a set of AHEAD Sticks, I won't use anything else _ it did take trying a few pairs before I found the Best "Fit" for my hands, my playing Style - So to recommend the 5A to you, would be doing you a dis-justice - I can in no doubt pass the Sticks with more stars than you can count - 5 Stars, 10 Stars, Simply the best made stick in the world IMO - You will love them, they are balanced, they last forever, and I play my ass off, Led Zeppelin, The Who, RUSH, TOOL, Dream Theater - I will never use anything else unless they come up with a better idea - And I haven't seen one yet since they came out. All you need to do is try them out and zone in on the size that best suits your playing style. I have copied the manufacturers specifications so you can see how they are made - By all means though, go to AHEAD's Website - Crazy Good Sticks FEATURES • All NEW Hyper-Form Engineered swaging process for a longer life span • 50% less shock than wood drumsticks • Last 6 to 10 times longer than wood drumsticks • 5% more rebound than wood drumsticks • High precision alloy core guarantees consistent weight and balance variations of less that 1% • Replaceable covers, tips and rings • High quality, unbreakable nylon tip provides a brighter, more articulate sound • Super-hard polyurethane replaceable covers protect your drumsticks and your gear • Ergonomically tuned handles • Built-in Vibration Control System (VRS) • Limited 60 Day Warranty. User questions & answers
Question: | B or 2B? i need to know that, please |
Answer: | 5B |
Question: | are they nylon tips |
Answer: | Some sort of plastic. Website says • Cream white • Unbreakable • Standard stock material used for most drumstick models |
Question: | What material are these made of |
Answer: | I believe they are aluminum beneath some sort of rubberized jacket...well worth it, but a few secrets to be learned after buying that first pair - you WILL be replacing the jackets, losing/replacing the tips, and eventually breaking them...It just all depends on how long woods last you in determining actual value of them...My opinion is favorable, but I did return to woods... |
Question: | What size are these sticks |
Answer: | Slightly larger circumference. 1/2" longer. And a bit more heavy than hickory. I use them as my learning/training sticks. They sound awesome !!! |

Question: | Free shipment to sao paolo brazil? i´s correct |
Answer: | I am not the seller, but the discount is listed as 17% off. What do you think the markup is on loading equipment? |
Question: | Is this price for a pair of drumsticks or is it just for one |
Answer: | Lee indicates it is compatible with both types of powder measure. Unless you have a long cartridge over 5/8" i think this may not work with pistol cartridges. Double check the min length for the die on the Lee web site. The other issue I see is that the opening of the insert of the die is small enough to engage the mouth of a .22 cal cartridge and that may slow the powder flow through the die. My recommendation is go with a Pro Auto Disk and the Lee expander die. It can be set to not expand the case mouth. |
Question: | I can't seem to find the replacement sleeves for these, any help |
Answer: | Try unscrewing the die out of the turret/press some. If the die is screwed in too far, it will deform the case mouths. I would back it out till it did not touch when the case is raised, and screw the die in slowly. Take it in small stages from there! Let me know if you have any other problems! ProGunslinger |

User questions & answers
Question: | Are these the old versions or the new ones with "Hyper-Form Engineered" thing |
Answer: | It’s an octave lower. The regular f is the highest-pitched regular harmonica, and can be annoying. I got the low f hoping to remedy that but it was too low for me. |
Question: | Weight and diameter for the 7a |
Answer: | Grains are a unit of weight, 7,000 per pound, but powders differ in density. Pistol powders like Bullseye, Unique, and Titegroup will meter different weights for the same cubic centimeters (a unit of volume.) So to measure in grains, you would be limited to one powder, and even this would only be approximate weight. |
Question: | Does this come with 1 pair or just 1 stick |
Answer: | You can use either one. Sometimes I use the charge bar, or the auto disk. That is up to you. |
Question: | Do these come with extra shafts or extra tips? Years ago they used all ship with extra shafts and Tips |
Answer: | The accuracy of both the auto disk and the charge bar are very dependent on the type of powder being used. I have used both with great success with fine powders like the A-1680 I use for my 300 Blackout, but less so with grainy or flaky powders like HS-6 or Titegroup. When I load .45 Auto using the HS-6 or Titegroup, I must weigh each case and each load, and it sometimes takes 3 or 4 attempts before I get the precise powder charge I desire. It's a more time consuming process, but the only way that works well for me. I weigh each case before I load it, adjust Tare to zero, then drop & dump until I get the right reading. With the 1680, it's on the money most of the time. I just check it every ten rounds or so. If you can find a powder you like for each of your loads that is also fine and spherical, that's the way to go with these powder measures, in my opinion |
