The Oscar Schmidt Company was founded in 1871 and incorporated in 1911. By the early 1900s, the company had five factories in Europe and a factory on Ferry Street in Jersey City. They made all kinds of stringed instruments, guitars, banjos, mandolins, ukuleles, zithers, and Autoharps.

| Answer: | Absolutely not. I have played one for years. I even graduated to using finger picks rather than strumming with a pick. It takes less force than to pull a pistol trigger. about 2-3lbs, to make a chord. Many people with arthritis turn to the Autoharp. The strings are chorded by deadening of strings by a felt pad under the chord key, opposite of a Piano. It does take some hand strength to tune one. I would suggest to take it to a Guitar center to have one restrung/professionally tuned. IF you do want to tune it yourself, you'll need an electronic tuner and lots of patience. It takes about i to 2 hours. |
