12 best drum machine sampler
A drum machine sampler is a versatile musical instrument and electronic device commonly used in electronic music production and live performances. It combines the functions of a drum machine and a sampler to create and manipulate rhythmic patterns and sounds. Here's what you should know about drum machine samplers:
Drum Machine Functionality: Drum machines, in general, are devices used to create rhythmic and percussive patterns. They often feature a grid of buttons or pads that can be programmed to trigger different drum sounds, such as kicks, snares, hi-hats, and more. These patterns can be programmed manually or sequenced to play in a specific order or loop.
Sampler Functionality: Samplers are devices that can record, store, and manipulate audio samples. These samples can be any sound, including drum hits, vocals, or even environmental sounds. Samplers allow musicians and producers to trigger these samples using MIDI controllers, pads, or a keyboard.
Combining Drum Machine and Sampler: Drum machine samplers combine the capabilities of both devices. They can trigger pre-recorded drum sounds as well as other audio samples, giving musicians a wide range of creative possibilities. This hybrid approach allows for the creation of complex and unique rhythms and textures.
Sound Manipulation: Drum machine samplers often include features for sound manipulation, such as pitch-shifting, time-stretching, and effects processing. These tools enable users to alter the pitch, speed, and overall character of the samples in real-time.
Sequencing: Many drum machine samplers come with powerful sequencing capabilities. Users can program intricate patterns and arrangements, making them suitable for creating entire tracks or backing rhythms for live performances.
MIDI Integration: Drum machine samplers typically have MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) connectivity, allowing them to be synchronized with other MIDI-enabled devices like synthesizers, sequencers, and computers. This integration enables precise timing and synchronization in electronic music setups.
Live Performance: Drum machine samplers are widely used in electronic music genres like techno, house, hip-hop, and more. They are favored by live performers and electronic music producers for their versatility and the ability to create dynamic and evolving rhythms on the fly.
Popular Brands: Some well-known manufacturers of drum machine samplers include Akai Professional (e.g., Akai MPC series), Elektron (e.g., Elektron Octatrack), and Native Instruments (e.g., Maschine), among others. Each brand offers its unique features and workflow.
Software Options: In addition to hardware units, there are software-based drum machine samplers that can be used within digital audio workstations (DAWs) for music production. These software instruments emulate the functionality of hardware counterparts.
Drum machine samplers are essential tools for electronic music producers and live performers, offering a wide range of creative possibilities for crafting unique beats and sonic textures. They have played a significant role in shaping the sound of electronic music over the years and continue to be a fundamental part of the electronic music production process.

User questions & answers
Question: | What is the function the “Lock” tab |
Answer: | The ATOM just comes with the unit, a cable, and a basic instruction manual. What you should do is register with PreSonus after purchase. When you create your account, you'll get a downloadable link to Studio One Artist and additional content. Head's up - in total, there is around 7GB worth of software & content to download. IF you plan to use the Studio One Artist software, I think you'll find everything that you need to get started there (though I have not tried it personally. I downloaded all of the software, but haven't really used it much at all, as I'm a Cubase 10 Pro owner). From videos I've watched, and the little bit I've read, the promoted software looks interesting, but if you're already using something more serious, like Cakewalk, Cubase, ProTools or whatever, I'd say don't even waste your time with the downloads, other than the ATOM driver (I think that was one of the downloads...). In my setup, I'm just using the ATOM as a straight pad controller, and the only buttons that matter to me are the 4x4 big ones in the center of the unit. I may find more use later, but for now, this is just a perfect hardware extension for me to play my Groove Agent drum sounds from, as it perfectly matches the Groove Agent on screen GUI. |
Question: | Would this be suitable for a 9 year old kid |
Answer: | No. I am not sure how you are trying to use this. But if you are triggering songs, you will still need a way of controlling the volume. I assume you would be running this through a mixer. So my recommendation is to use your outboard mixer to fade in and out. If you are determined to use this that way, you could also just edit your songs for a fade out. |
Question: | Why is this more expensive than buying directly from Teenage Engineering |
Answer: | Look on line for a used one with no software. |
Question: | Can you record any sound into the mic? or only from the software |
Answer: | I only purchased this for our house band. I called the band lead guy that asked me to order this. He says the pad is large enough to accept 2 strikers. I hope that makes sense to you. |

User questions & answers
Question: | I'm looking to use this with the elektron analog 4, mostly for external drums and sample audio clips from the computer. would this work, or the sp |
Answer: | Hallo, Jason - The Electribe 2S' sample memory capacity is actually measured in Time... 270 seconds of sampling time in Mono, or half that 135 seconds in stereo. So You can have one very long sample, or several samples that cumulatively Total to the aforementioned times... Make sense?Feel free to ask any further Q's.Yours in Musik,~~~Old NikNOISEBUG.NET |
Question: | What is the total sample time |
Answer: | Yes. You can change the number of steps. The default is 16. If you change it to 12 you essentially have a 3/4 signature |
Question: | Will this do 3/4 (i.e., three beats to a bar, patten two bars?) If not, that is a deal breaker for me |
Answer: | Absolutely; burps, farts, belches, puke noises, giggles, belly slaps, moans, groans, and more... all in sparkling 44.1/16-bit clarity - mono or stereo!! |
Question: | Can I use this to record my own burps and farts and assign a burp and fart to each button and then press the button and hear a burp or a fart |
Answer: | Oops! This cannot... and I repeat, this unit CANNOT be run through a "pedal chain.... sorry bro for any misunderstanding... This only has a line in (guitar) , headphone jack, and USB... no bypass jack... I hope this helps |

Compact, robust, and laid out with seamless workflow in mind, electribe puts the power of production in everyone’s hands. User questions & answers
Question: | What is the return policy for an item like this |
Answer: | Absolutely. It is very easy to understand and clear instructions. I have 2 kids around that age and they have no issues. Very little learning curve and plenty of YouTube videos on how to use it. The po-33 is more for recording sounds and making a beat where as the po-32 is synthesizing sounds and a little bit higher skill. |
Question: | Can i import midi files to use with the sequencer?, the unit transmit audio and midi thru the usb cable |
Answer: | #1 - TE rarely has it in stock #2 - Not a lot of sellers want to sell at TE price because they lose money selling it on Amazon |
Question: | Does it have sampling capabilities or am I limited to using a computer to load it with samples |
Answer: | That other answer is incorrect, there is a built in mic and you can sample any audio you can output over a 3.5mm cable, though note the 35 puts all samples through the synth engine, the 33 records sounds as they are, so if you don’t want a change to the sample, the KO (33) is the one to get. 33 also has 4 voice polyphony, though the 35 still is cool, just better suited to syncing with others than standalone. |
Question: | Do you need a computer to use this or can it just be used on its own |
Answer: | Yes |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does it save the loop when powered off? Previous question had conflicting answers |
Answer: | To be completely frank, I despise this pedal. I don't know how it has gotten so many positive reviews. But to answer your question, sometimes it saves them (when you're trying to get red of them, which is most of the time) and sometimes not. Sometimes, powering it off (completeing disconnecting it) is what I had to resort to get rid of a loop. It sometimes worked on the first try and sometimes the loop was still there. The loop function is not intuitive and does not work as well as many cheaper loop pedals. Of course, they don't include the even more horrendous feature of this pedal. The drum machine. The drum machine beats are worthless and almost all sound horrible. None sound "good" or at least of an acceptable quality or skill level to be of any real use (particularly at a gig). I would compare the sound and beats to the cheapest lowest quality children's drum kit thrown into a large metal trash can and rolled down a flight of stairs and recorded through an 80's gated reverb effect. I've been a professional, gigging musician for a long time and this is by far the most disappointing and useless piece of gear I think I've ever purchased although it has given some friends of my mine a few laughs at literally my expense. |
Question: | Can the drum signal be sent to a separate amp than the guitar signal |
Answer: | Yes , lf you use effects the drum machine sounds weird I run mine to a Roland acoustic amp and play out of my rig |
Question: | Can the loops be saved |
Answer: | Yes, the loops can be saved. |
Question: | Does it come with power supply cord |
Answer: | No, it doesn't. Please use 9V 300mmA power supply adapter. |

User questions & answers
Question: | What is the minimum equipment needed to start playing with this? 1) Just an audio out (headphones/speaker), 2) 1 + a mic, or 3) 1 + 2 + other stuff |
Answer: | Unfortunately, there is no option to import Midi files to this sequencer. Also, you will need to use the Midi outputs to transmit Midi signals. |
Question: | How well does this device interface with the PC? Can you use standard .wav ACID files on the device |
Answer: | It does not have a microphone, so cannot sample into the machine that way. You can use the L & R 1/4" inputs to record a sample from almost anything: Teenage Eng. Sample, tape deck, phono, phone, much more. AND a computer could be at the other end, too. |
Question: | What is the difference between the Korg KP3 and Korg KP3+? This is a gift, and I don't have a clue |
Answer: | Anthony - The Digitakt is a standalone instrument, so you don't need a computer to use it, BUT you do need a computer to transfer your own samples onto it, using Elektron's Transfer software. The instrument does come with a lot of preloaded samples, so you can use it right out of the box without a computer. The other thing that's very important to note is this instrument is awesome, but it has a pretty steep learning curve. :) |
Question: | So with this can you take an SD card with wavs, load them into the machine and then assign those wavs from the card to the ABCD buttons to trigger |
Answer: | When you break off the Lock Tab, all patterns are frozen or "locked". To reverse this, you'll need solder the two pads by the lock tab together. You can learn more about the functions and features of PO-33 at [https://teenage.engineering/guides/po-33/en]. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can i play from it directly without installing the dj software on the laptop |
Answer: | This is a controller....the buttons control something...so without the software it is pretty useless. It can control many types of software ( Ableton, VDJ, Traktor, etc...), but to play from it like a keyboard or trumpet is impossible. |
Question: | How long does it run on batteries |
Answer: | It is a usb cord that plugs into any wallncharger or computer |
Question: | Can it be used wired instead of wireless |
Answer: | AKAI support here! The LPD8 is wired only. If you're referring to the newer model, LPD8 Wireless, it can be used via Bluetooth or USB connection. If you have any other questions, please feel free to email me directly at [email protected]. |
Question: | does this work with garageband? for mac |
Answer: | Yes. If the software supports midi it will support this device. But I suggest just saving up a little more for an mpk25 or one of the other keyboard/drum pad combos. Also I was dissatisfied with the sensitivity of the pads themselves. Ended up reselling mine on craigslist within 2 months of buying it. |

User questions & answers
Question: | What do I need if I want to use an iPad instead of a computer |
Answer: | AKAI support here! You will need a Lightning to USB adapter from Apple in order to properly connect the keyboard to an iPad. If you have any other questions, please feel free to call or email us using the contact information on akaipro.com/support. |
Question: | Can this connect to an iPad |
Answer: | Connecting to an iPad works with the proper adapter cable. GarageBand will work with the keyboard, but there isn’t support in that program to map the various knobs & keys. You may get different results with other midi compatible programs on the iPad. |
Question: | I bought one but code did not work , where can I complain. They sent another code still not working! So frustrated |

Question: | Does is work with FL studio |
Answer: | M-Audio support here! This will work perfectly in FL Studio. If you have any other questions, please feel free to call or email us using the contact information on maudio.com/support. |
